“Track down Penelope Spheeris' film "Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years." It is a documentary about the days of hair and lycra rock, and the devoted wannabes and fans of the bands. What a hoot. Her first Decline documentary was on L.A. punk bands and is recommended, too. She has done another on alt rock I believe, but haven't seen it.

Then there's the movie "Hype!" which is a fantatic look at the exploitation of the Seattle grunge scene.”

Boy there really was a whole load of garbage. Twisted Sister? Tesla! Anyone from ATL remember when Channel 69 used to be videos and had a show called MetalWorks with The Butcher? That was friggin' great!

On the Zeleski ECT trip I spent an evening listening to the guys talking about 80's metal. I was sooo out of that loop. I had to get up and gather fire wood because I had no clue about the particular songs and concerts they were talking about. There's just no polite way to say that you think a particular music style sucks.
