Eureka Binghamton Sale
The Eureka outlet in Binghamton NY is having a Memorial Weekend sale.
www.eurekacampingctr.com/may-sale.html. Sorry, I don't know how to link. Maybe Ice Tea can give instructions for computer newbies in a color that we can read. Binghamton is on I-81 north of the Poconos. I'm going to try to go and see if they have seconds or deep discounts on some of the packs and sleeping bags I need. I'm sure my husband will rein me in. I'll tell him to look at the jackets; he loves jackets, why ?
We'll do some hiking that weekend too; and check out how crowded the tent camping is on a holiday weekend in the Poconos and Catskills.

It looks like a few hours away, at the most, but we have friends in PA that are half way. Might be a wasted trip there but I won't know what the place is like if I don't stop in. The rest of the weekend I want to hike some places I went to as a teen. Winona 5 Falls was a favorite, but then they turned it into an amusement park.

Imagine if you will, in 1987, when my poor Midwestern tongue found out it's NOT bing-ham-ton, but bingum-ton. You guys really talk funny. (Course Tonopah in Nevada screwed me up 10 years after that, too. Its actual pronunciation sure didn't fit the old Midwestern rules **I** grew up with!)

BTW, Tonopah has the school with my favorite high school nickname, the MUCKERS!!! (go make your own jokes :-)

It's a large place y&c. If I remember correctly it isn't far off of I-81 on Conklin Road. Don't quote me on that, I haven't been there in 10 years. They use to have a pile of stuff there.

I thought Binghamton was a midwestern city.

I haven't been to the factory outlet in maybe 10 years too but they did have a lot back then. Check out their 2nds for great deals.

Upstate N.Y. Grew up about 35 miles west in northern PA. That is where the closest mall and outfitter were. They had an EMS store in the mall.

RE: Eureka Binghamton Sale
Thanks! Now if I could just learn how to do that myself.
Yesterday I was hiking with my girls and their friends, when we saw a lady with a fishing pole. "Did you catch anything?" "Yes, I caught three trout." "Were they big?" "Yes, they were a foot long." "Did you let them go?" "No, I'm going to cook them and eat them. The river is stocked with them so people can catch so many per day." Now me, I'd like to be further from civilization, septic systems, and lawn chemicals before I would eat the fish. But RichB said you should always set them free for another fisherman to catch. In a clean environment, I think keeping a small amount of fish to eat is a good experience for everyone involved. Too many people only eat food from a grocery store. But then I think about the people involved in stocking the rivers and it must be frustrating to them to do this every year. We should only keep what the river can regenerate by itself. Does that make sense or is there a reason why that couldn't happen?

It's pretty easy y&c but a little hard to explain here as if I type it out in HTML, the code becomes invisible and you'd just see the link. Search for the HTML Thread for a good primer or go to Getting Started with HTML

To make the link pop-up in it's own window like the one above try this:
[a href="INSERT URL" target="_blank"]INSERT TEXT[/a]
Replace the [ with < and type the complete URL instead of INSERT URL. Be sure to include the http:// part or it will assume the link is on thebackpacker site (thanks matt). Finally put what you want the link to be called instead of INSERT TEXT.

Practice on the HTML Thread.

Young and Creaky, You are right about keeping only what the river can regenerate, but I have no idea what this level would be. We have some streams in my area that get so cleaned out by bait fishing that there's few trout to be had a couple months after trout season so it gets disheartening if you want to go out and have some fun flyfishing. Saddly, here in PA. the water quality has degenerated to the point that the state suggests you eat no more than one meal per week of any fish caught anywhere in the state of PA. They say the pollutants fall from the sky and no fish escapes them. The way things are heading we be lucky to have quality fish to eat or even catch in the future. I eat no animal products so I have no interest in eating fish. I just enjoy fooling them with flies and sending them home.

"fooling them with flies and sending them home"

And that is a euphemism for what?

RE: Eureka Binghamton Sale
Violin, thanks for the linking instructions, I'll practice. RichB, too bad about the pollution and people eating polluted fish. Fishing should only be a sport not a food source, if that is the case. I don't eat a lot of meat because it makes my joints painful, but fish is okay, which is why I was so curious.

RE: Eureka Binghamton Sale
Update: Don't take I-81 North to Binghamton, the traffic is brutal. My husband went through there last weekend for motorcycle races in Watkins Glen and the construction just south of Binghamton had cars traveling on only one lane each way for several miles. Just wanted you to know in case anyone else was going there.
