Dinkey Creek Project ” 10:44:38 PM 5/19/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Anything for money I guess. I hope the plans get blocked again!” 10:45:54 PM 5/19/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Oh come on now! Why don't they just dam Kings Canyon? We would get a LOT more power. Besides the trails are too steep there anyway!” 11:53:30 PM 5/19/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I live near a Nuclear Power plant that is almost in my backyard. It is my best neighbor. If you want to whine about energy, smash your computer and move to China. At the very least, smash your computer. Carve your message in limestone and send a copy to Ted Kazinski.” 1:38:54 AM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “OR....change the way that energy is produced and go ahead and use your computer. Is it always so black and white for you non-conserving conservatives?” 1:44:46 AM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “So do it. What are you waiting for Dun? Change the way energy is produced. Show some color. I prefer the black and white of reality.” 1:50:17 AM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Perhaps if it were cost effective....? Hmmm...” 1:53:08 AM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “The known oil and gas reserves has increased 2.5 times since the oil crisis of the 70's. We currently have plenty of oil. We need to find more resources to convert this oil into usable products. The banks won't invest in refineries, because the environmental groups have convinced congress to place cost prohibitive restrictions on refineries. We don't lack energy we lack an energy policy.” 2:07:31 AM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Or the refineries won't play ball and limit their profits with an eye to a sustainable future. Like most conservatives they fear change and ANY loss of control. Speaking of China, it is one of the most oppressive and conservative regimes on Earth. If you really want to be an "old time" capitalist, I suggest YOU go to China. 12:46:27 PM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Get to work, Tom!” 12:59:08 PM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Hy-dee-ho bacpac!” 1:16:34 PM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Instead of booze (though there is that too) Chinese workers are under the thrall of tobacco. Cigarettes and the subsequent cancer, heart disease, emphysema, etc., are rampant in the Middle Kingdom. Our tobacco companies are going to pay their legal settlements here with the cash they rake in from Chinese and other Asian customers, whom they are not prohibited from marketing to in any way they see fit (as long as the right Chinese officials are greased, of course). Of course to make matters worse, there is the air pollution from all the coal-fired power plants, factories, trains, homes, etc. Respiratory illnesses claim incredible numbers of Chinese. George W. would call that an energy policy. George W.'s father and uncle, as I recall, have been up to their eyeballs in China policy and business for decades. That may have been one of the reasons China decided to test Junior's will with the spy plane.” 10:21:24 PM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I don't know about anyone else, but my long term goals are to become as self sufficient as I know how to be. When we finally get back West, the plans are to set up our own turbine wind electrical generator (or whatever), and/or use solar energy, composting toilets (never have to call in the Septic man), plant a huge garden every year and make preserves, my husband hunts for meat and fishes already, etc. Also very important is to live debt free, not even a mortgage or car payment.” 10:56:09 PM 5/20/01 RE: Look What The Energy “That's right Pekka. And in a few years our pharmaceutical companies, are going to rake in tens of billions of dollars thru the sale of smoking related medicines. Which no doubt the U.S govt is going to have a big share.” 12:44:55 AM 5/21/01 RE: Look What The Energy “The energy crisis in Calif, let's see, a Republican Governor deregulates the utilities with a faulty plan, the first thing the utilities do is sell their power generaters (too costly to keep up), consumption has actually dropped, and it's all the fault of the Democrates and environmentalists!? As far as gasoline, I have yet to hear of a reason why prices have shot up, except for record profits. But, I guess that's the fault of environmentalists too.” 1:08:14 AM 5/21/01 RE: Look What The Energy “You got it Navigreaser, if we just put ourselves in the hands of BIG business everything is gonna be alright. Its those dogdamn environmental wackos who are getting in the way of progress. Those industries pay good money for politicians and should get their way. The military threat from China is as phony as the Cold War. 8:45:56 AM 5/21/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Back to the subject. ThinAir, we had a similar threat out here in New Jersey years back. The feds wanted to dam the Delaware River to create a huge lake and generate power (Tocks Island Project). This in a beatiful area formed by the last glaciers. It would have been an environmental disaster. Land was purchased and people were moved (including some who lived in homes that had been in the family for generations). It took ages, but eventually the middle and upper reaches of the river were designated as Wild and Scenic which created a real roadblock to the plans and Congress finally de-authorized the project. Make a BIG noise. Enlist your representatives. Print bumper stickers. Ignore bacpac.” 12:35:13 PM 5/21/01 RE: Look What The Energy “What's a sensible guy like Violin doing on thebacktalker.com? ” 12:49:52 PM 5/21/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Sorry Tom. I can do goofy too.” 1:21:33 PM 5/21/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I think he's a Communists! Let's burn him and generate some electricity!” 12:11:14 AM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “lol, burn the Commies!!! Hey did you know that when the KGB files were opened, it turns out that McCarthy was mostly right with his accusations? Makes you think......” 12:27:23 AM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “McCarthy was full of sh!t In '47 or '48(?) McCarthy made his first "There are X number of communists working at the State Dept" speech in Wheeling West Virginia. Quite a few American citizens WERE members of the American Communist Party. There was even an American Nazi Party for a while. Though there may have been some truth or fact to what McCarthy said, there was NO threat to America as he would have had people believe.” 9:00:39 AM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Yup. You found me out Naviguesser. I carry a copy of the Communist Manifesto with me at all times. Here are a couple of links mentioning my great-great-grandfather, one of my more infamous ancestors and a true subversive: Link #1> http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=S000706" target="_blank">Link #2 (No joke)” 11:32:50 AM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Geez, Violin, first you get the Right Wingers stirred up, and now you'll have the Johnny Rebs after you and your Yankee general ancestors.” 11:47:22 AM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy 11:51:04 AM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Johnny Reb and Billy Yank Communists, all of them!” 1:02:52 PM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Naviguesser, it was govmint regulation that caused all the problems. Too much red tape, to much time and money to get new plants up and running. Government should control polution (Bush was an ass to suggest cutting back on emission standards as a solution), but it was way past that. What the hell is the govmint in the business of energy production for anyway? Ever known a govmint agency that ran as cost effectively as private business? The original intent of government in this country was to govern and protect it's citizens. Now it's become a works progress administration for people who can't make it in the private sector. Workfare in another form. You liberals crack me up. Your intentions are good, but your methods are horrible. You try to be everything to everybody. Libereralism and mediocrity are synonymous. Article in the paper a while back touted the horrible plight of a man with six kids, working at McDonalds. He was having trouble feeding his kids, go figure. The liberals blamed McDonalds for not providing a living wage to this poor soul. My first question: What the hell is a guy who works at McDonalds doing having six kids? Liberals never seem to have answers for questions like that.” 1:17:48 PM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I have an answer- The six kids are a done deal. They need support. That crap about the problem being red tape is what the Bush administration and his patrons are saying. The government's job is to protect the people from all threats, foreign and DOMESTIC. 2:59:40 PM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I'm not sure I heard you correctly, Tom. The six kids are a happy meal? You've got some strange ideas about population control, dude. That crap happens to be true, Tom. Merely an economic reality. Government's job should be to protect us from itself. But I gotta agree with you, we're takin' it from all sides. Business only cares about us as consumers. That's why they can't kill us off, can they?” 6:08:26 PM 5/22/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Please pick up a history book and look up "Robber Baron". I'd rather have the mediocrity of the do gooders than the greed and the flip flops of the dittoheads any day.” 2:04:41 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Just for you, Naviguesser, I typed this Orbitmanifesto-like post. Not that any liberal ever listened to logic. It's all about emotion and rhetoric with liberals. Why I think liberal philosophy is evil: Liberal philosophy is defined by the belief that ?the greater good? is better served by a large, centralized government. That in order to protect us from ourselves, government should be our caretaker. It opposes the philosophy that the decentralization of decision making better serves the health of all peoples. It seeks control over citizens through slavery and guilt, and preaches denial of personal responsibility. Liberal philosophy seeks to make slaves (a person that is held in servitude. One who is completely subservient to a dominating influence) of us. Liberal political parties vote for more centralized government taxes. Centralized government taxes pay for a variety of ?all-encompassing? government programs. Some of these programs I would not choose to support. The liberal will usually question why not? It is absolutely none of his business why I make the choices I do, as long as I do not intend to harm anyone else. Not supporting some causes harms people the liberal says. The point that completely escapes the liberal mind is that it is often in the practical implementation of the idea that we differ, not the well-intentioned idea itself. There will always be those that we, as a society, will choose to help, such as the disabled and those from extreme poverty. Welfare was a well-intentioned program gone wrong. The welfare program (before conservative inspired ?workfare?) tried to serve ?the greater good?, but contained incentives for people not to find jobs and be productive. The amount of money that liberals are willing to throw at ill-advised programs is legendary. By forcing me to support those programs, I am a slave. Liberal philosophy uses guilt as a motivator. I can?t imagine believing in a philosophy where success is a bad thing. Yet every day I read articles by liberal politicians who use the phrase ?the rich? as a derogatory remark. Does that include the doctor or businessman who works sixty hours a week, fifty weeks a year? I have no resentments against someone who wishes to work that hard and is well compensated. I do not want to work that hard but I wish those people well. They produce more for society than most of us. What is it about successful people that makes liberal politicians angry? They use phrases like ?the working man? to denote blue collar vs. white collar. As if the white collar professional, who works sixty hours a week, isn?t a ?working man.? This is a divisive, us vs. them, mentality that tries to separate people into groups much like the organized religions that most liberals disdain. The people that this guilt seems to be affecting are Hollywood types who make large amounts of money for little work or societal contribution. I attend very few movies or sporting events. In a free market, that?s how I make my vote for what I feel is important to my life. If they wish to loath the free market system that makes them so much money, I suggest that they give the vast majority of it away to their favorite charities. I do not appreciate the liberal philosophy of making others think that investing money, so that businesses can hire more workers and produce better products, is any less noble for society. Bill Gates has probably done more good for the world than Mother Theresa ever did. I?ve read interesting articles on this subject. The creation of jobs helps people to feed their families, while research into better products furthers human knowledge. Knowledge is neither good nor bad it simply is. The accumulation of knowledge always benefits society. Guilt does nothing but undermine cooperation and discourse. Liberals, like lemmings, seem doomed not to learn history?s lessons. Individualism, not collectivism, is what drives human accomplishment. The vast majority of human innovation has come from individual not collective effort. Socialism doesn?t work; it leaves little incentive for individual accomplishment. The liberal finds excuses for people to be viewed as victims. Communist societies had terrible environmental records; no one took personal responsibility. Let me repeat a (paraphrased) magazine article that I once posted: A teacher, in the Midwest, having read about slavery in Africa, decided to organize his class to free the slaves. The class held bake sales and car washes to earn money. When they had enough money, they bought freedom for some of the slaves. The slavers, seeing a good thing, increased their raids on villages and captured more slaves since there was a market for them. Upon find this out, did it stop the nice, well-intentioned, liberal from the Midwest? No, he merely increased the amount of money to be raised from people wanting to ease their guilty consciences. And round and round we go. Imagine, feeling guilty for having money while others are held captive slaves. I?d like to save the world too, but I ain?t that smart. Slavery, guilt, and the demise of personal responsibility are evil. Death to liberal philosophy!” 7:38:39 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “amen!” 7:50:56 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Sounds like a lot of rhetoric and emotional crap to me, arclite. Communist governments are not liberal. Sounds like you're regurgitating Limbaugh propaganda. 9:07:16 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Communism is conservative? What planet are you from Tom? Communism is leftist, collectivist philosophy. I'm assuming you got at least some education. Just goes to show that a liberal will brand any bad idea as conservative. What bigotry! What hypocrisy! I always think for myself. That's why I'm not a collectivist liberal. The far right and the far left meet at totalitarianism. Don't mean to get too personal here, Tom. Can you tell that I'm in a very pissy mood?” 10:36:19 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Pissy? Naw, ya seem like the same cranky ol' peckerhead as always, arclite. Seig heil! Oh relax....just yankin' yer chain.” 10:52:22 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “At leat conservatives THINK, Tom. All liberals are full of unsubstantiated rhetoric, it's just a fact of life!” 10:56:15 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy 11:16:14 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Hmmm, I believe in conservation, environmental protection, species protection, govt. socilization of energy production, a leveling of wealth, and I like how the Democratic Party handles these issues. I think for myself! Does that make me a liberal? Is that wrong? "Liberal" referrs to giving up certain rights to government. I believe that our "Democratic" govt. is run by voters and who we have put into office. If you don't like the way stuff is going you just vote for a representitive who stands for what you believe. How is this so difficult or wrong? What the Conservatives want to me is wrong! Reducing the government is reducing public say. It takes power away from people who do not have wealth. It gives that power to idividuals with wealth. Look at the early history of this country, specificly the Factory System. When the Govt. had little say in how business was conducted people were driven to slave labor condition. When they protested how they were treated, they were killed. And thats just one example of corporate abuse. This is what is wrong with Conservatives. Anyone who does not think for themselves is an idiot! There are idiots in both partys!” 11:17:52 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Let's see here. hmmmmm, Republicans want the governemnt to have less power, meaning that power goes to the individual, i.e. tax cuts resulting in more money in the voter's pocket. The Dumacrats want the masses to have less power, probably because they know their constituents can't think for themselves and they want to think FOR them. That is why dummycrats lie, misinform, and scare thier constituents, instead of using logic. Logic won't work with their flock, it's too difficult to understand.” 11:41:28 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Vote for me and I'll cut your taxes! Sure takes a deep thinker to sign up for that one. Don't examine that it is almost always accomplished by increased government borrowing which enriches what group? 'We the people' or a select but highly influential few?” 11:54:18 AM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I'm sorry, did you actually read my post?” 12:00:24 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it. --P.J. O'Rourke” 12:03:05 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Last night when I was out running, I got tired of listening to music so I tried the AM side of my radio. There was some dude from a conservative talk show wanting women with defects or women on wellfare to be sterialized. And he was absolutly serious.” 12:04:08 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “I see it as a battle of good and evil. I vote for protection of what I believe is God's creation. If that means the wealthy must give up something for the poor to raise their standard, I'm for it. If that means protecting the environment from development and keeping it the way it is for the enjoyment for average everyday people. I'm for it also!” 12:10:50 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Why I think arclite is evil: He turned me into a newt. Now that's evil.” 12:14:25 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. Capital has its rights, which are as worthy of protection as any other rights. --Abraham Lincoln (a Republican) People with such views today are labeled socialists, communists or leftists.” 12:30:00 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Boy, everything is so black and white, isn't it? Either a communist (liberal) or fascist (conservative) and no middle ground.” 12:46:29 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Middle Ground. The essence of democracy.” 12:49:52 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Well, our country as a whole seems to have a nice way of ballancing it's self. Anything in it's purest form corrupts. Pure unchecked Capitolism is just as bad as Pure unchecked Communism.” 12:50:04 PM 5/23/01 RE: Look What The Energy “Amen” 12:51:01 PM 5/23/01
