There's blood in the streets
“There's blood in the streets
& it's up to my ankles
Blood in the streets
& its up to my knee
Blood in the streets
of the town Chicago
Blood on the rise
& its following me
Blood in the streets
runs a river of sadness
Blood in the streets
& its up to my thigh
The river runs red
down the legs of the city
The women are crying
red rivers of weeping
Blood in the streets
in the town of New Haven
Blood stains the roofs
and the palm trees of Venice
Blood in my love
in the terrible summer
The Bloody red sun
of phantastic L.A.
Blood! screams her brain
as they chop off her fingers
Blood will be born
in the birth of a Nation
Blood is the rose of mysterious
union.”

“There's danger on the edge of town,
Ride the Kings highway.
Weird scenes inside the gold mine;
Ride the highway west, baby.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“There`s blood in the streets and it turns me cold
young blood, fresh blood, that`ll never grow old
to many of our young died for nothing this day
thier blood runs free, but it`ll be washed away
and more young to feed the war machine, it destroys as it eats
all of our future hopes are gone, there`s blood in the streets”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“It was long ago.
It seems like yesterday.
I saw you standing in the rain,
Then I heard you say,
"I want to love, but it comes out wrong.
I want to live, but I don't belong."
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses
I brought flowers in the springtime.
October, we were wed.
In winter time, the roses died.
Her blood ran cold, and then she said,
"I want to love, but it comes out wrong.
I want to live, but I don't belong."
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“There`ll always be killing, there`ll always be the dead
a penny for your thoughts and a bullet for your head
not much is there in ways of fairness to cover the price
you can be killed for a thought, or a small bowl of rice
and it`s often to little to late to stem the flood
we can overlook the dead, but complain about the blood”

“There`s blood on the roses and blood on the vines
when you olny see beauty, you`ll get pricked by the tines
cause nothing ever comes free, it all has it`s hidden cost
you`ll never know the worth of it, till all hope is lost
when all hope is lost to you, you then know the right words to say
but, as the right time comes to you find you`ve again lost the way”

As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood!”

“He takes `em all on, or any that by chance he meets
he`s good at being bad and there`s blood in the streets
fighting`s what he knows, it wasn`t what he planed
but, when words don`t cut it, he
takes them in hand
he`s good with a gun, but God awful with a knife
it all comes to blood letting, when you take a life”

“I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? How long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...
Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
Torn apart
Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die
Sunday, Bloody Sunday”

“I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I asked your mother if you were at home
She said, yes .. but you weren't alone
Oh, sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you've got something I need
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out to see
La la la la la la la la, la la la la la la
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key”

RE: There's blood in the streets
“Thanks for the Melanie, Ken! I have many, many scratchy cassette tapes (made from large, black, round discs my son would not recognize). I found and bought one Melanie CD and I think even it was made from someone's record collection--it sounds as bad as my cassette tapes. But I can listen to her and filter out the fuzz. The skipping is a little harder to ignore.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“We played king of the mountain out on the end
The world come chargin' up the hill, and we were women and men
Now there's so much that time, time and memory fade away
We got our own roads to ride and chances we gotta take
We stood side by side each one fightin' for the other
We said until we died we'd always be blood brothers
Now the hardness of this world slowly grinds your dreams away
Makin' a fool's joke out of the promises we make
And what once seemed black and white turns to so many shades of gray
We lose ourselves in work to do and bills to pay
And it's a ride, ride, ride, and there ain't much cover
With no one runnin' by your side my blood brother
On through the houses of the dead past those fallen in their tracks
Always movin' ahead and never lookin' back
Now I don't know how I feel, I don't know how I feel tonight
If I've fallen 'neath the wheel, if I've lost or I've gained sight
I don't even know why, I don't know why I made this call
Or if any of this matters anymore after all
But the stars are burnin' bright like some mystery uncovered
I'll keep movin' through the dark with you in my heart
My blood brother”

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...!$%& you

“Miles from nowhere
I guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there
Look up at the mountain
I have to climb
Oh yeah, to reach there.
Lord, my body has been a good friend
But I won't need it when I reach the end
I creep through the valleys
And I grope through the woods
'cause I know when I find it my honey
It's gonna make me feel good
I love everything
So don't it make you feel sad
'cause I'll drink to you, my baby
I'll think to that, I'll think to that.
I have my freedom
I can make my own rules
Oh yeah, the ones that I choose
Miles from nowhere
I Guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there.”

“ken, I can't remember how old I was when I first heard that Melanie song. I know I was still in school.
I think Melanie was a big time slut. All the blatant inuendo, i.e., I've been around the world, I go far, I got a brand new pair of rollerskates, you got a brand new key. Frued would have had a field day with her.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“Hey explorer!
I take exception to that!”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“Glad you enjoyed it, Lips. I was a kid too. Younger than you by the information you?ve posted about yourself.
I was inspired to post those lyrics to provide a counterbalance to the doom-and-blood lyrics being posted by others. Just being a smart alec (surprise!) but it looks like others liked the song.
I have no opinion about Melanie?s personal virtue, but I do agree with your Freudian assessment. Did she write the song, or just sing it?
Not long ago, the wife and I were listening to the sixties show on the radio. We try to name the artist first. She?s better at it than me. There was a song playing that the wife said was Melanie. It was a good song and very well sung. Since I associated Melanie only with frivolous pieces like ?Roller Skates,? I said that it had to be Joni Mitchel instead. The wife was right as usual. I wish I remembered the name of that song?”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“ken, I've never been good with placing songs with singers. I love listening to the oldies on occassion to hear the songs I've forgotten about, and it's surprising how quickly the words come back to me. I'm 43 and my husband is 36, so he sits there amazed that I'm belting out tunes that he hasn't even heard of.
I don't know if Melanie wrote the song. When I was younger and heard the song, I was too innocent to attach sexual meanings to it. I just considered the song to be fun.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
And as I walk on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“"frivolous"?, "slut"?, oh my aching ears! Ken, Do you know where Tarpon Springs is? Somewhere in Florida. Melanie owns a coffeeshop there. And, yes, she wrote almost all of her songs.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“I like Melanie. I think that one song is kind of silly.
I was in Tarpon Springs this morning. Didn't know about the coffee shop and had gas station coffee instead. Job interview. If I get it, I'll be posting here less frequently, which will come as a relief to some.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“Are you going to be making the gas station coffee? I thought we talked you into teaching.”
RE: There's blood in the streets
“I would prefer making gas station coffee over what I'm doing now. The interview was at an educational institution. The coffee was at a gas station.”

“Lay down, lay down,
Lay it all down,
Let your white bird smile up
At the ones who stand and frown.
We were so close,
There was no room,
We bled inside each others wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace
So raise (Raise!) your candles high (Up High!)
'Cause if you don't we could stay black against the night,
Oh raise them higher again,
'Cause if you do we could stay dry against the rain!

“You are right john cohen ? quazimodo was right ? mozart was right....I cannot say the word eye anymore....when I speak this word eye, it is as if I am speaking of somebody?s eye that I faintly remember....there is no eye ? there is only a series of mouths ? long live the mouths ? your rooftop ? if you don?t already know ? has been demolished....eye is plasma & you are right about that too ? you are lucky ? you don?t have to think about such things as eyes & rooftops & quazimodo.
