Holiday Weekend Plans
This upcoming weekend is Memorial Day Weekend the unofficial beginning of the summer backpacking season. Who has plans and where will y'all be going. I'm heading up to Siskiyou Wilderness to meet a few other TT'ers for 3-4 days of remote and rugged backpacking. Just got my fishing liscense too so I'm hoping to supplement my meals with some fresh hungry trout.

I'll be working Saturday and Sunday.

I hope y'all have a great time and catch big, not so hungry, fish. The kind that have had plenty to eat but hungry enough to bite. :o)

I'm heading up to Michigan to see the folks. I might get out for a night or two of camping at a little spot I know.

My condolences, what do you do that requires you to work this weekend? I hope you'll be able to hit the trail soon. This early in the season the trout tend to be a bit feisty but I'm hopin' their fat enough to eat but as you said, hungry enough to bite.

Cheers!

Going to Mt. Hood in Oregon, 12,200 or so feet, and see if we can climb it. I've never done Hood, but have seen it from many peaks in Washington, and it give me incentive (fear) to get in shape. Wish me luck!

I'm going with Dunk to scare the fish away.

Hey Idaho, Mt. Hood is actually 11,235 feet. We're a little touchy about mountains gaining elevation around here. Check Why.
Bring your crampons, ice axe and a few buddies to rope up with, it's still pretty snowy up there.

Idaho Bob-
Here's hoping that Hood doesn't blow chunks on ya!

I'm going to the Cranberry Wilderness in the Monongehela N F in West Virginia with two of my boys and a cousin or two.

Dolly Sods is nice but on Memorial Day weekend the place will be a zoo.
Those of you who are going there, careful where you step.

Grilling with the family. Everyone is coming out to the lake. We'll probably see some movies and dayhike a little.

Actually, I've been hiking a lot lately and it'll be nice just to bumble around a little.

ChinaChas, the others with us may want to eat them trout you're threatening to scare away. Oh, and the best way to scare 'em is by being very quiet.

Lets see, where can I go on Memorial Day weekend? Where is a place where there are no people? That would have to be my bathtub, but that wouldn't be much of a vacation :{}

If you live within a hundred miles of the border, head to Canada. Victoria Day was last weekend. All the parks will be empty.

It's only a couple miles longer. I just made up meal plans for the trip. I'm hopein ta get in on some of them jumpin trout. I've even got the dirty on which lake has the golden trout. :) I made up a meal list and I'm useing Ramen as altrenatives to fish if I don't do so hot.

I was hoping to go with wanderer and the rest of the TTers to Desolation (California), can't due to a slow recovery from foot surgery. So to console myself, I'm going car camping in the Trinities (also California).

I'm going to do some work at the cemetery like planting flowers and weeding. Probably plant a garden at the house too. I don't like going out on the trails on a holiday weekend because it's just too crowded so I'll go when everyone else is out of the woods. I will get out to do some flyfishing.

I may opt for motorcycling to the San Juan Islands in WA. Motorcycles get preference and are loaded on the ferry first while people in cars have to wait for hours.

I think I would prefer to kayak instead of hike to avoid the crowds.
