RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
I'm going to Baxter State Park for some quiet time (I hope) and hiking. With two weeks left in the school year I need some serious down time... the kids are bouncing off the walls!

Dunk:

Have a good time in the Siskiyous. Wish I was able to join you. As it is, I'm thinking of going into Raspberry Lake in a couple weeks. So I'll be curious to hear how you do fishing some of those lakes up there. How 'bout a quick summary when you return? Thanks.

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
No prob alpine.

Pantscandy, the bollys are rugged country, you're probably right about not seeing anyone. Several years ago I went in from Rocky Cabin TH to Rock Ck, I was gonna loop back through Haynes Delight but got hit by a pretty serious storm that made crossing the Eel quite difficult (It took 45 minutes and in spots was almost chest deep). What's your chosen route?

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
Alpine, if all goes as planned, we should be at Raspberry Lake Sunday. So Dunk should be able to give you a first hand fishing report. This is also the most likely place that we will see other humans.

Don't worry Dunk, we will be getting our own dose of "rugged" where we are going. I haven't brought it up with Wrongway or Trinity Trekker but I'm thinking we might try bagging El Capitain while you folks catch up to us Saturday. So, if you find our camp and no one is home; "we'll be back."

Woo Hoo, on the road tomorrow, on the trail Friday!

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
Watch out for Wrongway, he's not good with exposed heights, I had to pull him off a cut bank above a creek in the Marbles once.

I certainly know this is rugged country, we'll easily be outnumbered by Bear, Cougar and Sasquatches. Now if I can only make it through work tomorrow. On the road early Friday, I can smell the clean air and pine trees now.

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
Radagast, thanks for the compliment regarding the photos on my site. You're too kind.

Dunk, this year I'm planning to hit the Ides Cove Trailhead to Camp D trail?,then north for a bit, then east and south. I don't remember the rest of the trails offhand. Last May was my first trip into the Bollys and it sure was fun. That hike started from the Indian Dick area and I too had to cross the mighty Eel in high water. Got a little spooky as I had to jettison the pack and swim for the far bank. Didn't accomplish what I set out for due to way too many unmapped logging roads and snow. Hope this time is better!

Everybody have a kick-ass weekend!

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
Have you heard whether or not the Ides Cove TH is open yet? It's generally the last one clear of snow. If your an angler try fishing Long Lk, there's plenty of robust trout in that small lake but it takes a skilled angler to get 'em. There's also some good spots to bag Mt. Linn from and it's a fun easy climb with great views.

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
The hubby and I have it narrowed down to three MO trails - paddy creek, ridge runner or devil's backbone. since we do everything at the last minute, we'll get the map we need tomorrow and then be off early saturday for the weekend. Hope everyone's plans work out with the weather. It's been a VERY unpredictable week...clears up, then rains, then more of the same. As long as I'm not at work, I'll be happy. Looking forward to a lot of trip reports next week!LOL!!!!!

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
I just finished packing up and now it's time to load the truck, get through work today, visit my Mom tonight, then head north tomorrow morning. I'll be meeting Trinity Trekker and Calnatv for the first time in person this weekend although Cal won't be hiking with us. I'll be stopping by his restaurant for lunch on the way up tomorrow. Because I've packed fishing gear and have gotten my liscense and packed herbs and spices and breading and lemon juice I know I wont be catching anything, but I'm gonna try.

Hey Dunk, how's work going? I'm packed and ready to roll. All I have to do is attend my daughter's event then meet up with WW at my place around 9:00 PM and we are outa here.

Expect to hit the trailhead around 2 AM. At which time I'll fire up that wind tunnel to fill the mattress and crash. We'll meet TT at the trailhead or there abouts Friday morning.

See the rest of you Saturday!

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
How was everybodies weekend? Did you do San Gorgonio Phil? My trip to Mt. Hood was successful. We started hiking at 1:30 AM, and were on the summit at 8:30, with strong winds and freezing cold. This peak was strenuous, with about 6000' of elevation gain, from 6000 to 11,200.

RE: Holiday Weekend Plans
IB - Yes. I summited Mt. San Gorgonio on Sunday via the Vivian Creek Trail. Snow Nymph has a good trip report of the same trail two week before.

Saturday: Hiked 3.7 miles (2000 ft. elev gain) and set up base camp at Half Way Trail Camp (8100 ft. elev).

Sunday: Day hiked to the summit and back. 4.3 miles each way, 3400 ft. elevation gain.

Monday: Hiked out and home by noon for a Memorial Day BBQ (pork ribs and shrimp).

It was beautiful up in the mountains. Clean & blue, while it was socked in down below. A doe kept walking up to our camp within 50 ft. of us both Sat. and Sun.

The Vivian Creek Trail is popular for anyone training for Whitney, Rainer, Kilamanjaro, Philmont, etc.

I will get some pictures up soon.
