A totally non-hiking related thread
Imagine that. . .

It's not really - I always have songs stuck in my head on the trail.

I came up with this thread only because I just made a list on Amazon of 10 of my favorite albums. Take a look and tell me what you think.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/listmania/list-browse/-/1PQ4HLKPIMQ5X/103-0888821-7289457

If somebody could PLEASE come up with a handy little link, I'd appreciate it.

...of the albums, there's some decent ones, I like Rust Never Sleeps alot, Eat a Peach is good and any Zappa is good. The Eagles was the first album I ever got, but I'm severely burned out on 'em now, same with Zep.

RE: music
I agree with all of the albums except for the Widespread panic...who the he!! put them in there? They haven't aged, matured, shown creative longevity and put out enough albums/music, etc. They have no right being in the top ten. Whoever made the list must be a big WP fan.

RE: music
It's so hard to do a list like that. I like a lot of your choices. Seeing Rust Never Sleeps reminded me that I had that LP swiped by the lowlife who stole my stereo (many years ago). It was on the turntable. Left me with the album jacket, though!

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he

Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...!$%& you

Buddur: yes I am a big Widespread fan. It's probably accentuated because I saw them live 3 weeks ago. As far as creative longevity, maturity, etc, they've been around for over 15 years and put out 8 albums, with a ninth coming out in June. I'm not a big Dead fan; I'm not sure why, but they've just never got me hooked.

I thought about putting CCR's Willy and the Poor Boy's in there, but they dominate Classic Rock radio as much as the Stones or the Who - so by that angle, I think Widespread was a perfectly appropriate band to include.

My friend went to the W.S. Panic show in NC about a month or two ago. He said you couldn't find a hit of acid or a pill of E to save your life!

Common Tom,
Sticky Fingers = 1971
Some Girls = 1978

Did you see them on SNL in 78? I was 14 and shocked.

Things did take a turn for the worse after that.

RE: music
Tom, yes, I realize Jimi Hendrix is missing entirely from the lineup. Again, this is not because I don't love his music, only that Purple Haze, Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary, Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing etc are played incessantly on the radio.

Personally, Disrelli Gears was a better album than Fresh Cream.

Oops, I forgot.....
Disreali Gears

Hey, After "Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown" , etc., when I was about 14 none of their stuff interested me.
Jagger is a one trick pony and that trick gets old for me.
He's just a prancing fop.
"Shall I take off me trousers?"

Clapton is nowhere with out Jack and Ginger.
Kinda like McCartney without Lennon.

Don't get me wrong...Widespread may not do as much for me as other bands, but I do like them. It's just that there are other bands that deserve a "top ten" recognition before WP.

RE: music
You're probably right. Widespread seems out of place, at least chronologically. I just sorta looked at my CD collection and decided that these were the albums I listened to most. What to go in it place? Cream? Hendrix? CCR? The Stones? Don't say the Beatles, please.

I guess if you weren't there, I could see how you might not list the Beatles. Those boys were, and are, significant, even if some of their songs are grossly over-played. I think some folks feel it hip to dis da Beatles, You?

RE: music
...And the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
So in her I do confide
And she keeps me satisfied
Gives me all I need
...And with dust in throat I crave
Only knowledge will I save
To the game you stay a slave
Rover wanderer
Nomad vagabond
Call me what you will
But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
...And the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself but not alone
I ask no one
...And my ties are severed clean
The less I have the more I gain
Off the beaten path I reign
Rover wanderer
Nomad vagabond
Call me what you will
But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll never mind anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind
And I'll take my find anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
Carved upon my stone
My body lie, but still I roam
Wherever I may roam

Well you can take it any way you want
You can shake it till it's back to front
If you rock it till it's inside out
Let me tell you what it's all about
It's a rock 'n roll symphony
and it's gonna be the death of me
They call me Blue Suede Schubert
The king of the bop
Blue Suede Schubert
I just can't stop
When I get that beat
my music is complete
Ow!

Well, it's crazy but you know it's true
You gotta do what you gotta do
And I'm gonna have to sing my song
while the back beat's going strong
Everybody rock 'n roll 'n more
even rolling all around the floor.

Dirk, Stig, Ron and Nasty thank you.

True Colors
Phil Collins

You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness, inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

Show me a smile then,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

[intru part]

So sad eyes
Discouraged now
Realize

When this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors, true colors

Cos there's a shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors, true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Beautiful, like a rainbow
