Help w/ weekend destination!
Alright, we changed our plans to a local hike because the weather up north is supposed to be so cruddy. Now it's looking like it'll be just as bad down here.

Anyone have any suggestions for a weekend hike South of us (where the sun'll be shinning hopefully). We'll drive up to six or seven hours. BTW, we're near Detroit MI. Help please!

Joy, check out the Wayne National Forest in southern Ohio. The Athens section is about 30 miles south of Columbus and is supposed to be less developed and crowded, and to have good hiking trails. I was there many years ago when my sister-in-law went to college there, and I remember it being a beautiful area. Might be an option to look into on the web. Maybe some people here know more about it.

Well, I'd suggest the Hocking Hills area of Ohio. It's southeast of Columbus and likely to be crowded, but I bet you could string together a nice trip.

Another suggestion is Mammoth Cave NP in Kentucky. You can get there in half a day and if its miserable up top, you can always go on cave tours.

If it's nice east, I might try the Bruce Trail in Ontario or even western Pennsylvania.

Both of the trails mentioned in Ohio are part of the Buckeye Trail, buckeyetrail.org

Hey Joy, try Zaleski. I is a great trail, and should'nt be too crowded. It is about 5 hours from Detroit and a very challanging hike see my post in TT.

Good luck!

Hyper was at Zaleski last winter w/some of the TT nuts. He didn't seem interested in going back there. It'll be the first trip with me hauling our baby. Maybe the terrain's too challenging?

REgarding Mammoth Cave...was there last year and it was awesome. Be aware that tickets may already be sold out for the tour you want. We found that out when we arrived...only a few short tours were remaining but we took 'em and were pleased. Good Luck!

Hiking Bear, can you get me directions for Zaleski? The weather there looks okay. Thanks...

Hey, the weather doesn't look so bad around here for the weekend. Why don't you stay in Michigan?
