Governor of Mass delivers twins

“My newspaper was full of all these stories today about Mass Governor Jane Swift having twins, with a two year old at home. Some women were beating on her for putting her job ahead of her kids. Some politicians were trying to oust her by saying she could not be an effective governor and recover from childbirth at the same time. Then there are those putting in their two cents about if she were a man, no one would have even discussed this. No one mentioned what her husband was doing, or I would add those details, since they would be an important factor to my position on this.

“I keep hearing that refrain -- "Nobody would even be talking about this if the governor was a man." Frankly, that's disingenuous bullshirt. If the governor was a man, he wouldn't be going through post-partem depression, he wouldn't have all kinds of crazy hormones raging through his body driving him nuts, and he wouldn't be trying to breast feed in the executive office. On the other hand, as Bill Maher pointed out the other night, Bill Clinton proved that it IS possible to govern while somebody is sucking on a part of your body.”

“If only daddy is home caring for twin infants and a two year old, I hope for all their sakes that the grandparents are close by. One infant and two year old was exhausting for me, especially if one was sick, and my husband was home at a reasonable hour each night.”
