Venezuela Climbing Expedition, 2002 “Any of you climbers out there, I'm currently in the planning stages for an expedition into the tepui region (Guiana highlands, the location of Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world) of Venezuela to climb 2,000 to 3,000 foot big walls. Current plan is for a team of 4-6, who will then break into two smaller parties to attempt to establish new big wall routes in the area. The expedition is planned for the Venezuela dry season in 2002 (January through April). If interested (or you have any information on the area), please contact me at ThunderTrain@hushmail.com -- any non-climbers out there, that want to explore this unique area, the team could definitely use help in schlepping loads to base camp.” 2:54:14 PM 5/24/01 RE: Venezuela Climbing Expedition “Wow! How does one finance such a trip? I find that I have a hard time taking two weeks off in a row. When I used to take three months at a time, I also didn't have a house, a decent car, etc. Is that what it takes?” 3:17:11 PM 5/24/01 RE: Venezuela Climbing Expedition “No house, no wife, no kids, no debt -- everything I own easily fits into my beater truck. My last adventure (a 2.5 month climbing expedition in Borneo), was also partially sponsored, so that helped a bit: Free gear and ropes, free chocolate, discount airline tickets, laptop, satellite phone, etc.” 4:01:54 PM 5/24/01
