“My Dad and I was at the Indy 500 race in "99, the first year he pulled the double. By the time we got out of the track and got setteled into the ride home, we we're listening to the Coca Cola 600 race. We got home (in middle Tennessee) just in time to see the end of the race on TV.”

“Driving cars is a sport. Some ppl would tell you that backpacking is not a sport. If you don't compete in that area, you wouldn't have the background to make that call. Would you say that chess is a sport? Bicycle but not motorcycle racing? That's just rediculous! I hate baseball - with a passion! - but I don't deny that it's a sport. I just say that it's a sport that sucks. So you don't like stock car racing. Just say that in your opinion it sucks, and leave it at that.

My heroes drive cars at over 200 mph. They are athletes who work out, don't smoke, and put their lives on the line each time they start their engines. Not a sport. Get real.”

“I believe competition requiring physical activity is a sport. Auto racing is a sport cause those guys (with the exception of Jimmy Spencer) are in top shape.
Chess is not a sport. You could be paralized from the chin down and still play chess.
Backpacking is not a sport unless your in the ECO Challange.
Backpacking is a Recreation.”

“He he he, Walkindude! Yeah, I think Jimmy Spencer is the exception which proves the rule. That guy has got to get into shape. You're probably right about backpacking in that it's the foundation for any backcountry adventure, but is not the end goal in itself. However, I treat it like one, in my zeal to become proficient at it.”
