“Anyone who says dope isn't addicting hasn't smoked enough of it! I don't personally think it's physically addicting, though you are putting chemicals into your body that don't belong there. Though in my opinion it is extremely mentally addicting. After a several years of very heavy use, if you go a day or two without it, you become nervous and stressed easily, you can't sleep, you feel like sh!t, and you become obsessed with getting your next fix.

I gave up the hard drugs after several flashback episodes, and I'm happy to be off the mental and emotional roller coaster named maryjane also.

Sorry to get off the topic of medical purposes but it pisses me off to hear people say that dope isn't dangerous. I'm all for the medical use and research of any drug. The stuff they gave me when I had my wisdom teeth out was far more addicting than any recreational drug I have ever taken. (I had six wisdom teeth and they had to remove some bone to get at them, so I got heavy duty pain killers)”

Marijuana and most of the other ?illicit? drugs were outlawed with the La Guardia Act shortly after the end of prohibition, at the behest of J. Edgar Hoover, who was suffering from headline depravation.

Doctors can prescribe opiates, but if they go beyond a VERY narrow ?average? the D.E.A. will investigate and yank their license.

In all the history I?ve read the only times drug use has come up, they went to the druggist and bought some more laudanum. No, it wasn?t good for the person but they weren?t committing crimes to pay for their next fix. Then there were the opium dens, but they affected a very, very small percentage of the population.

Having seen the needles (beer mugs, pipes...) and the damage done, I'd be in favor of outlawing everything on Tarpy's list (except sex) if that would make them dissappear. I think criminalization ultimately increases the damage.
The only other way to go is to make the drug laws so punitive, and drug enforcement so invasive that people will be terrified to be near the stuff. I don't think this country can pull it off, and I think the costs would be too high.”

“Bacpac, "Reefer Madness" is a hilarious film. I watched it in my high school sociology class. Laughed my butt off. And, what is your glitch w/ Holland. I never said America should be like them. I only pointed out that their country is not doing terribly due to legalization. They aren't all "pot-heads" and they do a little more than grow tulips, brew beer, and make chocolate. Why be narrow-minded and stereotypical about another culture. Are all Americans fat, loud, and stupid? That's what some Europeans think. Is that true? No. Is a country only worthwhile if they have made some enormous contribution to the world? Americans consume alot, does that make us more valued? Yes, Violin, the Dutch do have a very heavy "live and let live" policy. It is a big part of the culture and history. They legalized harder drugs for a time, but found that it was a huge mistake. Now it is just marijuana, the sale is regulated by the government, shops must obtain a license to sell. One really smart thing is that an establishment can not have licenses to sell both alcohol and weed. They must choose one or the other, this helps to avoid the bad effects of mixing one's drug use to an extent. I apologize for getting off the medical usage issue.”

I overdosed on that waaay back in high school. Thought I was going to die. I remember lying face down on my friend's parent's brick stoop for hours. I couldn't even move. Sorta like the scene from 'The Wall' when they played comfortably numb.

Since when does Clarence Thomas know squat about what is or is not proven with regard to ANYTHING medical or scientific?? Dumbass.
