For one thing hemp is the plant, pot is the buds that grow on the plant. The plants can and have been made to be virtually THC free (which is the active ingrediant in pot). The textiles industry probably has the most to be gained by legalization. There are thousands of uses for this plant, only one of which is recreation. It is my understanding that it was made illegal because of pressure from the wealthy cotton growers. Why the U.S. still has reefer madness is beyond me. This country can be so ahead of our time on some things, yet completely miss the boat on others.” 6:07:17 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “now that I look at the title again, we are not discussing hemp, we ARE INDEED discussing pot. Disregard my above post, it is for another discussion. Maybe that is the problem...people cannot see a difference between hemp & pot!” 6:11:04 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “A British study found that Cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive cannabinoid of marijuana, helped patients with Huntington's Disease, epilepsy, Tourette's Syndrome, and was found to be more effective than aspirin as an anti-inflammatory agent. CBD was found to be high in hemp fiber plants while THC -- the psychoactive ingredient of marijuana -- was very low. Conversely, CBD was found to be low in drug-type marijuana plants where the THC level is high.” 6:12:05 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Ahhhh! The magic word, anti-inflamatory. I vote legalize it for medical use. I never liked pot for recreation, it made my eyes cross. But anti-inflamatories; we all could use that, either for our muscles or our smart mouths.” 6:21:25 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “newgirl- Don't the Dutch have a serious 'live and let live' philosophy? Like the one many people think our freedoms are founded on but is increasingly hard to see in today's American society? (Sorry about the wooden shoes business, I know that wasn?t nice. I also realize they all live in windmills, grow tulips and are drug-peddling pornographers.)” 6:23:13 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Has anyone bought hemp products? I wonder how comfortable they are to wear and their durability. I've been in hemp clothes stores and the clothes are a little pricy.” 6:24:30 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Anyone who says dope isn't addicting hasn't smoked enough of it! I don't personally think it's physically addicting, though you are putting chemicals into your body that don't belong there. Though in my opinion it is extremely mentally addicting. After a several years of very heavy use, if you go a day or two without it, you become nervous and stressed easily, you can't sleep, you feel like sh!t, and you become obsessed with getting your next fix. I gave up the hard drugs after several flashback episodes, and I'm happy to be off the mental and emotional roller coaster named maryjane also. Sorry to get off the topic of medical purposes but it pisses me off to hear people say that dope isn't dangerous. I'm all for the medical use and research of any drug. The stuff they gave me when I had my wisdom teeth out was far more addicting than any recreational drug I have ever taken. (I had six wisdom teeth and they had to remove some bone to get at them, so I got heavy duty pain killers)” 6:26:23 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “LH- The price is due to inventory 'shrinkage'. Seems Tarpy is in there trying to smoke every third garment!” 6:26:53 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “newgirl, Why use Holland as an argument to support legalization? Do we want to be like Holland? They grow great tulips, brew good beer, and eat a lot of chocholate. What would you expect from a bunch of pot heads? They really don't do much else. If you are worried about the cost of weed legalization is not the answer. Let the government get hold of the marijuana market and the National Debt is history.” 9:32:24 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Just a couple of corrections: Marijuana and most of the other ?illicit? drugs were outlawed with the La Guardia Act shortly after the end of prohibition, at the behest of J. Edgar Hoover, who was suffering from headline depravation. Doctors can prescribe opiates, but if they go beyond a VERY narrow ?average? the D.E.A. will investigate and yank their license. And a question: ?Who knows what I need better, my doctor or the D.E.A.?? I just wish the police would stop practicing medicine without a license.” 10:04:59 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “I know this contrary to Violin?s wishes but can anyone point out a case, prior to criminalization, where drugs were a problem? Please don?t use the China / opium trade because it was the British East India Company?s express goal to addict the population. In all the history I?ve read the only times drug use has come up, they went to the druggist and bought some more laudanum. No, it wasn?t good for the person but they weren?t committing crimes to pay for their next fix. Then there were the opium dens, but they affected a very, very small percentage of the population. Any other examples?” 10:07:02 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Violin, you are too funny, lol. I can see Tarpy going into the fitting room with 3 items, and coming out with 2 and a round belly with string hanging out of his mouth :{}” 11:14:49 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Lipstick, you are too precious. Don?t ever change. Really. I am LAMAO..whatever the rest is..” 11:21:20 PM 5/29/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “ditto newgirl. Just so long as your sh!t doesn't interfere with mine or anybody else's, go for it.” 1:34:48 AM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Any high school kid can tell you it's a lot easier for them to buy pot (illegal) than it is to buy alcohol (legal, but regulated).” 9:57:43 AM 5/30/01 Eeeeeek!!!! “Holy Horrors!! My list is longer than Tarpies, although I've had 20 years of clean living since. Having seen the needles (beer mugs, pipes...) and the damage done, I'd be in favor of outlawing everything on Tarpy's list (except sex) if that would make them dissappear. I think criminalization ultimately increases the damage. The only other way to go is to make the drug laws so punitive, and drug enforcement so invasive that people will be terrified to be near the stuff. I don't think this country can pull it off, and I think the costs would be too high.” 10:23:22 AM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “"I hold no illusions" Violin 12:45:21 PM 5/29/01 In that case, you need to smoke another one.” 12:08:36 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “"I hold no illusions" Violin 12:45:21 PM 5/29/01 In that case, you need to smoke another one.” 12:08:53 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Doctor's orders?” 12:23:49 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Who remembers, "Reefer Madness?" A classic film. Wish I had it on tape.” 2:02:01 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Bacpac, "Reefer Madness" is a hilarious film. I watched it in my high school sociology class. Laughed my butt off. And, what is your glitch w/ Holland. I never said America should be like them. I only pointed out that their country is not doing terribly due to legalization. They aren't all "pot-heads" and they do a little more than grow tulips, brew beer, and make chocolate. Why be narrow-minded and stereotypical about another culture. Are all Americans fat, loud, and stupid? That's what some Europeans think. Is that true? No. Is a country only worthwhile if they have made some enormous contribution to the world? Americans consume alot, does that make us more valued? Yes, Violin, the Dutch do have a very heavy "live and let live" policy. It is a big part of the culture and history. They legalized harder drugs for a time, but found that it was a huge mistake. Now it is just marijuana, the sale is regulated by the government, shops must obtain a license to sell. One really smart thing is that an establishment can not have licenses to sell both alcohol and weed. They must choose one or the other, this helps to avoid the bad effects of mixing one's drug use to an extent. I apologize for getting off the medical usage issue.” 2:22:59 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “newgirl- I know bacpac doesn't really need a one-dimensional loser like myself to defend him but I think he's only pulling your leg.” 2:38:35 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “I tried Morphine last night. I snorted it, holy !$%&! All day today I have been sick, itchy, and sick to my stomach! Holy !$%&!” 3:38:55 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “ ” 3:52:21 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Nice!” 5:19:09 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Naviguesser, though it was incidental ingestion, moldy rye seed (ergot) has wreaked much havoc on man-kind. Vast armies on the battle field have suffered huge casualties without ever facing the enemy. It wasn't til the 1940s that ergot was synthesised in the lab yielding LSD. Just imagine the Inquisition with soldiers tripping their armor off, slashing each other up. "Whoa man. Did you see your arm come off?"” 5:33:26 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Like Dude, did you like see your arm, it looked like a blood spitting dragon man, gnarly!” 5:43:29 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Doctor's disorder.” 6:52:33 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Doctor's disorder.” 6:52:35 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “I have had morphine too. Morphine is way cool. If I didn't have to function as a human being I would be a morphine addict.” 7:52:35 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “I got some morphine recently for surgery. I never liked the opiates at all, but when you get your body hacked up it does beat the pain at first. Still, in general I prefer Ibuprofen and a little extra pain to narcotics.” 8:07:11 PM 5/30/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Sometimes a sick man calls for morphine, not for recovery.” 10:47:14 AM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Snort Morphine and it hits you like a ton of bricks. Take the pill, peel off the time release coating, crush it up, and snort it. It will rock your world!” 11:13:12 AM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Just read about a guy arrested while walking down the street yesterday afternoon in broad daylight carrying a marijuana plant. When they searched him they found ten packets of heroin marked 'Soprano'. --duuuuh” 3:39:53 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Ok, so stupid people also do drugs! Where do you work Violin!” 4:49:35 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Tarp Rat, I am very frightened at this fact, but I must admit it . . . I have something in common w/ you. I had morphine in the hospital after delivering my daughter via C-section. I itched like crazy. I thought I was going to scratch my face off. Good stuff though, loved it. They sent me home w/ a prescription for PerCaSet (sorry about sp). That was nice, too.” 4:56:20 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Since we're way into thread degeneration... Bacpac, I saw "Reefer Madness" at a double feature with "Flesh Gordon." We belly laughed through both of them. Then there's "Marijuana, Assasin of Youth"; surely destined to go down as another classic. Drugs are bad so don't do 'em. OK?” 5:09:00 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Live up, Don't give up!” 5:16:24 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Percocet... Ugh... I overdosed on that waaay back in high school. Thought I was going to die. I remember lying face down on my friend's parent's brick stoop for hours. I couldn't even move. Sorta like the scene from 'The Wall' when they played comfortably numb. Not the proudest moment of my life. Tarp - I am a real estate appraiser, why?” 5:23:45 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Disclaimer: The only morphine I have ever had was prescribed by an MD in a hospital.” 5:42:06 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Too late druggy!” 5:43:08 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Violin, take enough to feel good, not so much you feel bad. That is the secret to anything.” 5:56:09 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Oh, I've learned, believe me. I was just a really, really messed up kid. I never expected to live so long.” 6:02:37 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Flyguy, I read that the moldy rye seed could have had something to do with the Salem Which Trials.” 9:41:24 PM 5/31/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “I've never known anyone smoking pot to punch someone out (or even want to). The state-sanctioned drug of BEER...that's another matter. Logical, scientific thinking about drugs of any kind in this country has never stopped our government from doing the most assinine thing possible. Besides, who do you think is behind this war on drugs (including the war on the sick who's health and quality of life might actually benefit)?? Ahem: State-sanctioned drug companies in the business of booze and cigs, that's who. I'll tell you why few don't come out and say, yeah, I like it recreationally, so let's legalize: It doesn't fly politically. A word to my government: don't tell me you are for my freedom to choose anything when you clearly are itching to get into my bedroom, my financial records, my medical history, my reproductive organs (if they happen to be female), our forests, my drug habits that hurt no one else, and then either sell them all to business or force me to toe your religious line in the name of freedom and values. It is silly enough not legalizing and regulating our arbitrarily unsanctioned drugs for whatever individual use we might see fit as individuals. How pathetic is it that our government is toeing this anti-drug policy so far as to deny sick people the hope of a substance that might actually make them feel better and live longer??! That is called turning a blind, deliberately ignorant eye. Freedom? What freedom? Since when does Clarence Thomas know squat about what is or is not proven with regard to ANYTHING medical or scientific?? Dumbass. Speaking of politically incorrect: It is not considered PC to speak of one's affinity for ANY unsanctioned drugs. There. I'd like to keep my guns, my money, OUR wilderness and forests, my choices (for EVERYTHING, including what drugs I do or do not do), my records, my health profile, my opinions and sanity. Hands off all of it! Sorry to digress... I feel somewhat better now.” 4:26:22 AM 6/01/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Who moved his rock?” 8:02:45 AM 6/01/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “No wonder I never feel ill!” 8:21:40 AM 6/01/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “Violin, What kind of real estate? Commercial, singlefam, or multifam?” 9:14:08 AM 6/01/01 RE: Medical Marijuana “I'm vp charge of our commercial department but am primarily involved with appraisals for litigation: public takings, environmental issues, etc. I was a loan officer for five years before getting into this. Are you in processing, closing or what?” 10:33:38 AM 6/01/01
