WHY NOT USE IT??? “I saw a program last night about a woman in CA who has a kid that was totally uncontrollable. The teacher's feared for their lives, the mother did too. She said he went to 17 doctors who prescribed a "bunch" of different mood-altering drugs, of which the mother said NONE worked. She said the "system" was close to taking the kid away because he was a "threat to society" in his current state. As a last ditch effort she sought an alternative medicine...THC. A proponent to the medicinal values marijuana had proposed she at least try it. The mother said she noticed the calming effects within a half hour of her kid eating some (it was cooked/prepared and put into a capsule to swallow as a pill). She said after an hour her son said "I feel happy!" which he had never said because evidently he never was. At 6 years old, the kid said "My head isn't noisy anymore!" and has been a controlable kid since they first started him on the medication. The mother said this has "...been a Godsend!". They cited studies that indicated the calming effects THC has on the brain. Now the kid is 8 years old and has been changed for the better. To me, the didn't seem doped up and appeared as a normal 8-year old. Unfortunately, now the local and state government is citing her for doing something that, in her words has "saved her son", so to speak...just because it's marijuana. This mother doesn't believe in drug abuse, but she tharoughly stands behind the positive effects medical marijuana has had on her son. I'll leave it at that, to ponder.” 8:37:36 AM 3/07/02 “This shouldn't even come close to being an issue. Let's take marajuana off of the law books altogether.” 8:42:50 AM 3/07/02 “A six year old? I'll have to ponder this one.” 11:19:54 AM 3/07/02 “I'm all for legalizing for whatever reason, but can you imagine the gov't regs? Bet they'd be a hoot to read. I clipped a cartoon recently where a cigarette and a joint were comparing body counts - cigs 400,000, joints zero. A few times when my son was a teenager I gave him valerian root at night - what a difference in his daytime activities. I only wish I'd given it to him more often.” 11:44:39 AM 3/07/02 “Valerian used to be a commonly used sleep-inducer. What other effects does it has, twig?” 11:48:32 AM 3/07/02 “100% believable, to me.” 11:51:01 AM 3/07/02 “Oh yeah, there are probably already govt. regs for marijuana...The USDA used to publish a pamphlet on how to grow marijuana for medical use. The most recent edition was printed in like 1912 or 1913. Of course, I probably read that in High Times or the like, so it could be complete and total BS....” 11:53:57 AM 3/07/02 “Can you imagine what the gov. regulated smoke would be like? Think in the terms of 3.2 beer.” 1:27:03 PM 3/07/02 current legal drugs... “we've all seen the commercials for drugs that have horrible side effects (uncontrollable explosive diahrea, bleeding ulcers, etc.) and these drugs are typically for weight control (which in many cases can be controlled through diet & exercise) and anti-social behavior. Marijuana eases pain and stops nausea (show me a pill that can be taken when you are throwing up!) and Marijuana's side-effect which produces extreme hunger can help cancer patients live longer. Of course Marijuana can be abused, so can vicoden and a whole bunch of others. I see the Governments fear of pot to be irrational, political, and ineffective. I've never paid for pot but have smoked it several times... it's everywhere and close to free. I'm sure drug companies don't want an effective drug that can be grown on your windowsill for free to be an option. Imagine what would happen if oregano was an effective solution to male impotence... think the makers of viagra would be calling their representatives? I do...” 1:55:39 PM 3/07/02 “They wouldn’t be calling their representatives. They be busy writing checks.” 2:12:10 PM 3/07/02 “It seems to me that if it has some bonafide medical benefits (which, BTW, I think every thing has some benefit), it ought to be treated like any other drug. Isn't using too many qualudes called drug abuse and illegal??? But the properly prescribed dosages are perfectly legal! Why can't it be the same for marijuana.” 7:53:41 PM 3/07/02 “This is what I think. It makes me very mad for one the our own Goverment lies to us about pot.(1)It does not kill brain cells.THC-Delta-9 has it's own receptor cite in the brain.Other drugs like Narco's don't and only block the receptor thus just kill pain. Then the body builds up a tollernce in the peraysamitica system of the brain makeing the person want more.Pot does not do that.(2)The goverment could never make money off of it the way they want to.Becuase people would grow there own. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO MONEY. And that sucks!” 8:07:45 PM 3/07/02 “YES!” 8:13:04 PM 3/07/02 “Thank you. 8)” 8:25:35 PM 3/07/02 “The smoke is still a carcinogen, so take that into account when deciding whether to toke up or not.” 9:00:23 PM 3/07/02 “I don't toke but I just wanted to make a pont thats all. 8|” 9:08:43 PM 3/07/02 “EAT IT” 9:15:09 PM 3/07/02 “You needn't smoke MJ to get high. Baked into brownies works quite well. But I bet it tastes better if you just smoke it.” 9:15:48 PM 3/07/02 “Good point! 8)” 9:16:08 PM 3/07/02 “Bacpac...The Netherlands are prob. the most successful group of people on the planet(per capita) They own some of the worlds largest companies..Shell, Phillips, ING, Rabobank, Norelco...This is all coming from a country the size of LA..They have some kooky ideas, but you can't knock em... MJ is so easy to get I don't understand why it needs this whole Medical Marijuana tag...Cmon the place is over run with the stuff...” 12:41:18 AM 3/08/02 “legal lize IT Many clouds of smoke rollin in my truck its the marijuana funk w/the gosta musta spread much luv w/ the bud! i just remembered my child hood!” 5:30:38 AM 3/08/02 “Yeah, Prowler, we won't mention it to any state troopers.” 7:50:20 AM 3/08/02 “truck-trunk its meant to be ! I hate troopers! most of them, but not ALL!” 8:11:39 AM 3/08/02 “It seems that opiates, when used for medicinal purposes(i.e. painkillers), can be administered over the long term, with only 1% of individuals experiencing any ymptoms of addiction after traetment (or 99% of individuals experiencing no addiciton). I wonder if the same can be said for medical marijuana? Any thoughts? I agree witht esentiments above, drug laws in this country are out of wack.” 1:32:54 PM 3/08/02 why not “Interesting discussion, it’s too bad too many people get hooked on too much stuff. Not sure if it’s genetic or what, but some people are just weak from the get go! I’ve tried too many things, not one has stuck(not saying there weren’t some good trips) except for an occasional smoke of the good #&%!$! People who need it for medicinal use should definitely be allowed it, but just like OxyContin (intended for use by terminal cancer patients, alzheimer’s patients, and chronic pain sufferers) things get abused and then the big bad government thinks it needs to interfere…not sure if they’ll ever be a happy medium? Another scary side…I visit nursing homes occasionally for my job, I don’t want to be one of those people hopped up on medicine…ever!!!! Let me die all natural, I’ll take the pain vs. 10 years of that terrible life going in and out of what I think is reality. Legalize it I say…like that’ll happen in my life, I doubt it! Oh yeah, is that Target Market advertising everywhere in the US…please stop it!!!!” 2:12:38 PM 3/08/02 “wsdavies, This is the USA not the Netherlands. Try to remember that” 5:39:00 PM 3/08/02 “YEAH! I think the whole world shouldl homogenize. We should all be like so-and-so. Everyone should be like so-and-so! That way there would be no point in going anywhere cause every place would look the same! (except the backpacking, of course)” 5:41:08 PM 3/08/02 “My ex-brother-in-law was no doubt ecstatic when medical MJ came about. His twisted sense of entitlement found validation that election day. No doubt, it was a perspective ripe for encouragement within the prison system he so eloquently reviles - and served time in. The history is unimportant, and my post isn't a vote for, nor against. But it seems somehow odd that he and his ilk waited patiently enough, long enough, to profit from a system in which they've spent years trying to convince us MJ was harmless to all, and beneficial to some. Time has a way of working both for, and against you. For my ex- B.i.l., it worked. Whatever your belief, the controversy is still enough to create enemies among friends, and debate will continue. It will no doubt drive co-believers to the self-rightous ideology that flouting the law - such as it is - is OK, when it conflicts with your personal beliefs. Not something I want to teach my kids.” 5:23:30 PM 3/10/02 rediculous “the arguments for legalizing marijuana for medical reasons is rediculous. if your doctor want to make a prescription for marijuana. he already can... anywhere. it is called marinol. Marinol. is essentially THC. cannabinoids can be prescribed as well. If you want it legalized at least make sure you have the facts straight.” 5:45:22 PM 3/10/02 “This entire thread is absolute proof that drug users are amoral and completely stupid.” 11:03:46 PM 3/10/02 “Medical Marijuana is not the argument for decriminalizing pot. It is just an opportunity seized by some. Because there are entrenched interests who want to see pot remain illegal, these oppotunists see this as their only chance to crack the wall. The argument about "flaunting the law" sounds good, but a person hardly has to be a flagrant law-breaker to obtain and use marijuana. It has been way beyond law enforcement capacity for years and years. Let's stop wasting the enforcement officers' valuable time busting folks who want to toke a weed. BTW, I don't smoke.” 9:15:47 AM 3/11/02 Imaginary Dave... “go ahead and take marinol when you are vomiting violently... works great. This thread was intended for legalizing medical marijuana, NOT to say it'd harmless and everyone should smoke it. No drugs are harmless... you can OD on aspirin, but aspirin is legal. I don't know why there is such a fear of marijuana. I believe alcohol is far worse (yes it's legal), and it is a proven fact that CIGARETTES are the biggest "gateway" drug. I am just dissapointed that the US government is so against what the states are doing, but then again since when has the Government listened to the will of the people.” 4:13:11 PM 3/11/02 “My brother was a Hemophiliac, Drug Companies in search of the ever important dollar decided it was OK to send out medicine tainted with HIV because to recall or redo it would have been a loss of a few billion dollars they decided money was more important then human life then to add insult to injury our wonderful legal system decided to arrest an jail him for growing pot which was the only way he an his wife could overcome the vomiting caused by the disease an med's they had to take for it to try an make a long story short he eventually helped found MARS group Marijuana Aids Research Services an was legalized to smoke which DID help prolong the years we got to enjoy them before they died he lobbied tirelessly to help other people get help also but our goverment has made it so hard for these people it's almost impossible to be legalized these day's they persecute the Dr.'s who try to prescribe it to the point most wont even try anymore 60 minutes did a wonderful documentary on the issue of which my brother an his wife were a part” 6:07:15 AM 3/12/02 “Thankyou for that post, Centavo. It is invaluable to hear from somebody on the "front lines" of this issue. Sorry that your brother had such a struggle.” 8:49:54 AM 3/12/02 “Cancer patient awaits trial on marijuana charge -----------------www.marionstar.com----------------- CINCINNATI (AP) -- Carter Singleton says he was weak and lost 80 pounds in five months from cancer when he followed a friend's advice to smoke marijuana, which helped him get back his appetite and gain weight. Now, Singleton is awaiting trial on a felony charge of growing marijuana -- which he admits he grew in his basement for personal use. If convicted, the 65-year-old could go to prison for one to five years or be placed on probation. "Carter is not the type of person to intentionally violate the law, but he was desperate," his lawyer, Larry Keller, said Thursday. *snip* The 6-foot-tall Singleton said he was diagnosed in 2001 with non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma. He said he weighed 230 pounds before the cancer ravaged his body. "I was starving to death," he said. "I did what I had to do." Singleton said he took his friend's advice but was afraid to ask his doctor about using marijuana. "I kept losing weight," Singleton said. "I went from a 38 pant to a 30 pant. I went from an extra-large shirt to a large. My butt and arms were all skin. I couldn't eat." He said he smoked marijuana by himself for the first time on Easter Sunday of 2002. Then he ate ham, turkey, dressing, cherry pie, pumpkin pie and strawberry shortcake. "I ate 'til my belly about busted," he said. A county grand jury indicted Singleton this month. A neighbor who saw a flickering light in Singleton's basement and feared it might be a fire called firefighters, who said they went into the house and found the marijuana plants.” 2:22:54 PM 11/06/03 “Rush will probably get off with a fine, and this poor dude will wind up with house arrest for 5 years. Justice is what you can afford.” 2:29:41 PM 11/06/03 “Too bad. He knew it was illeagal and did it any way. Guilty as charged.” 2:32:02 PM 11/06/03 “Maybe they should cut off his feet, Nig. I'm sure he won't do it again!” 2:37:10 PM 11/06/03 “Which is what he will probably get Nigal. However, if he had enough money to throw at this, he could probably sail right past it.” 2:37:51 PM 11/06/03 Poor Guy! “The Easter Sunday story is pretty touching, imo. Probation will be all he'll get, I'll bet'cha.” 2:40:29 PM 11/06/03 “So because I think people should foolow the laws set forth I'm some kind of calous bastard that wants this guy to lose his feet? Thanks a lot.” 2:43:11 PM 11/06/03 “I wish we all could come to a point where this is a non-issue....” 2:49:32 PM 11/06/03 “Nigal, I worded it that way because you put it in a rather cold hearted context. You know the way I debate with you. We don't stoop to low blows. I just believe in being a little more analytical of the particulars of a story rather than a cold blanket statement of "that's the law" and there is no such thing as extenuating circumstances. Please don't take offense.” 2:51:08 PM 11/06/03 “OMG. doesn't he know that smoking causes cancer. He should just make a public statement that he did not inhale, and run for President.” 2:51:44 PM 11/06/03 “Hey, just as long as the dude respects leash laws while hiking with his dog in the wilderness, who cares what he smokes?” 2:54:02 PM 11/06/03 “I don't think the Cincinnati police are taking that view, Buck!” 2:56:15 PM 11/06/03 “The cold hearted conservative bullchit is about as old as the term "bleeding heart liberal". A term I do not use. Save it...” 3:57:54 PM 11/06/03 “I understood what you were saying nigal. And in fact, the cold hard reality is that the judge should have the same attitude. What I refer to as "Impartial Judgment". There is the law. There are facts. And, there is a judgment. Where compassion comes to play is in sentencing. The problems I have is that it doesn't matter if you are black; white; old; young; genius; illiterate; famous; obscure...etc. etc. etc. Justice is a function of green.” 4:05:21 PM 11/06/03
