“Well, today is the day I've been dreading.

After work, I have to take my dog into the vet to be put to sleep. Bruno is a 15 yr old black lab we've had since he was 6 weeks. He's gone blind, mostly deaf, and he has at least a dozen tumors. Not a very high quality of life. It's sad to see a dog that was so active, now just lay around sadly all of the time.

Bruno was the best dog with kids, ever. He watched over them like a mother. He was cleaner than the cat and learned everytihng the first time.

I'll be burying him out in the front yard under the tree where he used to wait for the kids to get off of the bus after school.

“I'm sorry to hear about this. My lab is about 6 years old. I'd be thrilled to have him around for 9 more years. If we have kids I know he'd be great with them. On Christmas my little sister was putting makeup and jewelry on him after we opened presents. He just sat there and took it.

People who aren't dog people don't always understand that they become part of the family, but they really do. It's tough to lose them.”

Mine is 13, he really seems to be suffering right now, but I'm torn over whether he can make it through this latest challenge, or, if I should just make arrangements to take care of him :(. On one hand, at least you know it's time for Bruno, I'm perplexed over Tucker - don't want hm to suffer, but also don't want to put him down if it's not his time.

To top it of, he freaks out beyond belief whenever take him to the Vet, so I've thought for a long time now that when it is his time, I'll get whatever I need from the vet & administer it myself while we're in the backyard. I want to be there giving him pets when he goes.”

I had him put down in '97. Terrible day for me, but a neccessary undertaking.

“Subtil....man I have been there, and I am with you now. IT was only a few years ago I brought a similar moment to the thread. Daisy was my baby, she was a pound pup, was identified as TOO MEAN to adopt out. But she became MY DOG. She hated my duty nights because she would have to sleep on the hallway in the front hall waiting my return in the morning.

“sorry to hear about it.its always tough to get through this,my last dog was almost 17 when I had to do it. Her body was giving out on her but she had a strong heart to the end, must have been all the walks we did. I had the vet come to the house to do it so that she could be at home,I held on to her while she was being injected, so very hard to do it but I had to .”

“LS and others. Sympathies. We had to do the same for our 15.5 year old dog just over 2 weeks ago. Tough time.”

“It's tough to lose a member of your family. When we put our last dog down we held her while the vet gave her the shot. We all had tears in our eyes, but it was the right thing to do. My heart goes out to you and your family.

One of the biggest regrets in my life was when I was younger, I didn't have the courage to be there when my dog was put down. That was 30 years go and it still hurts.”
