“Mega Bitch about work: Been back in the states and at my job all of 4 weeks now. Company I helped found is on shakey financial ground (due in part to my three month hiatus on some mountain in Borneo), an may go belly up any week now. I have no motivation to work behind a computer any more... I figured I could last here through January, but I think about bailing for South America on an houry basis. But hey, I guess it could be worse... I could be one of those ladies that sniffs armpits for deodorant companies.”

“ThunderTrain, I never did any serious adventure stuff, but I lived in Holland for a short time. When I first came back I was happy to be home and then about 3 minutes past and it just sucked bad. I wish I could go back all the time.”

“I hear you loud and clear newgirl... whenever I'm travelling things just seem so much more interesting -- damn, even doing your laundry or taking a shower becomes an adventure. Even when adventuring seems like work (e.g. must hike 25 miles to get to my next cache, must establish first ascent of Mesilau Pinnacles, etc), it sure beats being stuck in an office.”

Even a dull job can be made more interesting and at the same time more productive, by selecting a specific problem and performing a what if analysis, or a cost analysis, or creating an alternative plan, a survey, graphs and charts, really good graphs and charts, power point presentations.

“Thanks for the wonderful suggestions, bacpac. I'm not in any "high-up" type position at this point. I'm the lowly sec. and, believe me, my boss is not interested in any charting, graphing, or for that matter civil conversation. I am not lazy, I've been working since I was about 13. I stay at this job for one reason, it is a job-share w/ another sec. and I get a wk. on, wk. off schedule. I make enough for what I need and it affords me more time w/ my daughter and for school. Until a point in the distant future when I can change that, I maintain my right to complain. Besides ThunderTrain started this thread so we could bitch, not so we could brainstorm solutions.”

“Complaining is fine. Sitting in the office surfing the web when there are files to oganize, new phone lists to print, etc. is less than fine. JMHO”

“Bacpac, we have all our customers in one state and a few in Wyoming. I did the new phone list about 4 days ago. I cleaned the windows and took down the X-mas lights about a month ago. I've designed 4 different letterheads and we don't have a comp. e-mail address. Way ahead of ya', buddy! Thanks for the suggests.”

“Got laid off in April. Went nuts for awhile - now I dont want to go back. Hanging out with the kids this summer. Have lots of trips planned.

Reality will hit in September. Thats soon enough.”
