My daily rant
as many of you know, I'm looking for a job. I applied at Target today. I spent 10 minutes filling out the app and then handed it in. THey told me to sit down and wait for an interview. So I waited... for 2 hours. Just as I was going to ask if I could make an appoitment and come back, the interviewer came out and said she was ready. As we walked back she looked through my app ans proceded to inform me that she wasn't hiring summer help. Ahhhhh

RE: My daily rant
Go to your local city Parks or Dept of Public works office. Most towns hire summer help, they pay good to boot. Our town (Yuppyville) pays $9-10 na hr for summer help.

DeathMarch, I'm not too much older than you and I have held numerous positions. Nanny or Au-Pair (U.S. and Europe), waitress, cook, sec. for lots of kinds of businesses, reservationist, front desk clerk at very nice and very crappy hotels, telemarketer, assitant to my literature prof., grocery checker, etc. I say keep lookin', there are plenty a jobs to be had. If you don't like one, quit, get a new one. Don't get stressed about the money sit., I always find that it gets worse if I worry about it.

RE: My daily rant
Oh, and some other advice. If you have a prof. that you have a serious crush (i.e. fantasy material) on and he/she asks you to be their assistant and you are just a freshman and you can't stand how amazingly hot he/she is . . . don't take the job. Every evening of research, making copies, typing letters, filing, etc. will be agony. All you'll want to do is jump right on top of him/her, but you won't want to look like a huge sex maniac. Anyway . . . don't take a job w/ a prof. you have a crush on when you are just a freshman.

DM99, how about a job working for the Federal Gov't? The big plus to a federal job is that you can transfer around the U.S.

The one federal job that comes to mind is postal worker. No, I'm not trying to get you killed, lol. There are other fed jobs you can look into like Federal Parks or correction officer in a prison. You will get a lot of benefits with a fed job.

RE: My daily rant
well, this wasn't the first place. I've tried about 10 so far and al ot of them don't want summer help. They are dieing for help, but they want long term people. I did get a call back from one place and I'm interviewing tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get the job. I need the money!

okay, now for yesterdays rant.
I was on a half-century bike trip that was organized through the scout trip I help out with. One of the kids older sisters came along who was on the IU biking team. Let's just say that I'm glad bikers wear tight fitting clothes. Sounds good ehh? Too bad she was already taken.

RE: My daily rant
DM, I went through the same thing about 2 years ago. If you don't mind hard work, less then college material coworkers, and a degree of uncertainty look at temp agencies. It took about a week and a half after I signed up to get my first assignment. The work is certainly a lot more pleasant than telemarketing, and it may yield experience you can use later to get a real job. If your living at home it will give you a nest egg of several hundred to a thousand dollars by the summer end.

RE: My daily rant
Stanlee, Muktuk was right. I was speaking metaphorically. Women need the real deal, not pictures. Also, Muktuk, I don't want to get into the side of my personal life that is in my bio., but I am certain that the conclusion you were drawing is not the reality of my sit. Every single mother is not a sleep-around and having a crush and acting on it are two different things (all single moms don't sleep w/ every man they have a crush on). Maybe I took that a little too personally, but single mothers take enough flack as it is.

Todays rant:
It's raining and cold, again. This is June. It's suppposed to be warm and rainy. Oh well, at least I finally got a promising interview. Maybe that followed by some time in the bike shop will make it better.

RE: My daily rant
Deathmarch, we have been praying for rain in MT for wks. We just had the driest May on record . . . ever. Finally got some yesterday and last night. Be happy that 1/2 your state isn't going to be a flaming inferno this summer. The smoke and gray sky is terrible.

RE: My daily rant
I've been enjoying the cool temperatures, Deathmarch. But I just can't stand that all the weekends lately have been washouts. It's hard to believe that it's June when it's consistently 58 degrees out and rainy.

We're midwesterners, let's talk about the weather!

Oh, and good luck with job search.

I don't know where you live, but check out some of the local golf courses. They hire summer help and you might get to be outdoors pretending to be on a hike.

Here and now I`d like to start my daily rant
but, for the very life of me, I just can`t
seems more times than not I`m in the dark and only guessing
but, each new day I get now, I have to count as a blessing
oh, I could get down on things, if I were to try
but, here I am alive again today so, why should I

Regarding weather...There was a strange occurance yesterday. While walking with the wifey, baby and dogs this really bright hot ball of fire lookin thing appeared on the western horizon. It made me squint and sweat.I wonder what it was. I have heard a legend spoken by the elders of my tribe about this thing but I never believed...

Newgirl, I just now read your response. Sorry about the way I came across. If you knew me, you would know that I sure as heck am not one to judge or condemn ANYONE. I think I wasted a good part of my youth trying to prove that I was not the goody-two-shoes that everyone thought I was. Now I know that being good and having strong moral character are nothing to be ashamed of.

Target sucks anyway, it sounds French. Try being a bouncer at a strip club, that sounds like a cool summer job!
