“REI had a used gear sale today. I picked up a 4 year old REI downtime 5 degree bag for $71. It looks brand new! Gotta love them used gear deals! What have you all gotten lately....?”

I took advantage of REI's sale to get patagonia lightweight longjohns cheap. Also on sale I also got a pair of their Convertable (zip off) pants, in longs. I just came back from a walk with them on and I think I love them.
I used their %20 off coupon to finally buy the OR Standard BIvy I've been lusting after for years. The weather here is going to cooperate and give me a nice rainy night to test it out :-)

“we have 1 local gear shop in town, they sell a lot of stuff made by outbound. we used outbound stuff along side of our military issue while camping with cadets when i was younger.. and i reall ylike it. it is quite good quality and cheap. recently i bought an outbound ranier 90 pack and an outbound mercury III tent. i havent took either out into the woods yet.. but the tent worked great in the backyard (we have been getting a lot of rain).”

“I outgrew my new boots (feet widened while pregnant) just as I got them broken in real nice. Went boot shoppin' today and picked up a pair of Merrell Summits. Not as nice a boot as the Zamberlans but they fit and that's important. Now to break them in.

Also got my first pair of polarized sunglasses. I think I might be hooked for life! Now if only the sun would come out...”

“The best gear I've acquired recently are the EMS Hiker trekking poles I purchased two months ago. I am jamming along now, after taking some time to get used to them. In the past, I would use a staff of dead wood plucked from the ground occasionally, but nothing compares to these sturdy poles. They saved me on some large patches of slippery ice this April, and I was able to give one to my buddy so he wouldn't slip either.”

“I picked up a Hilleberg Nallo 2 tent this week. It's really awesome and the most intellegently designed tent I've ever seen. The weight and stuffed size is incredible for how much room it has. I plan to use it for solo trips and it's a genuine palace for that. Before you buy any tent check out one of these. Can't wait to get out and use it but, no I'm not sleeping out in the yard tonight.”

“I got it direct from Hilleberg, but I didn't get it cheaper than the catalog price. Some European retailers sell them from their websites, but I'm not sure if their prices are less than direct from Hilleberg.”

“The Petzl Micro is the next best thing to the Tikka. The Tikka is better in terms of weight and battery/bulb life, but the Petzl Micro gives you a way to focus your light. The Princeton tec Solo is either just on or off (like the Tikka), I think.”

“The solo has interchangeable inserts to allow a different like beam. I belive it can be adjusted a little too.”
