What's that? Is it a skateboard where people ride it on the snow?

I won't go to the garage sale anymore...
That was my second one. They really didn't have much there, and for what they did have, I couldn't have used anyway.

Laqtis, I agree with you: those people there were rude and inconsiderate of one another. Hey, were you the one with those 2 dogs? LOL! J/K! Personally, I was a bit disappointed in the whole event. I really doubt I'll even try for the next one. Here, I was thinking this was going to be different! That's why I got there early too!

Oh well. Live and learn!

We came out a day early from our trip, so I shopped a little. Got a pair of OR Low-Tex Gaitors (20% off, my others finaly fell apart), Patagonia R1 Pants (saved $41), Teva sandals (saved $25), a Galen Rowell book, and other misc stuff for the trail.

Ya Hooooooooo! I got my Moss "Hooped Outland" today.

I had a 1991 and sold it. Big mistake. Now I have the 2001 version. Made in China (Not Maine) but it looks solid. MSR says they'll back it so no worries.

Some material changes, but the design is sooooooo bomber!! I've been completely burried in snow with my old one, and it held up.

Sweet shelter if you not a giant. Can't wait for a test run in a couple more weeks.

I made a 600 c.i. lumber pack this week and picked up 2 Gregory hydrocell replacement bladders for only $1.97 per pair on closeout at Dick's Sporting Goods. Got a new 1 liter Platypus and Nalgene too.

Already, I'm cheap, but what do you think??
Saw this puppy on ebay. I tried to get as much info as I could before I bought it, but I did not turn up much.

Anybody got something close to this:

Wow,Q, you're the winner! $50 is a deal, imo. Hope it works for you.

Birch got a new thermarest 3/4 ultra lite pad last night. His blew out finally, after 8 years. Mine is still going strong. He also got a nalgene bottle, large and firefly yellow. He chose the color because I have one and it almost glows in the dark. The REI man insists that it's meant to be a pee bottle because it's yellow. I'm curious what the other colors signify? What the heck is pink for?

Hey Sass -

I think birch told me one time that he had a pack like my composite frame Coleman. If this is right, could you ask him how much that thing weighed? I'm getting readings of anywhere between 7 and 10 pounds (d@amn bathroom scale...) .

Thanks!

Laqtis, I wish I could remember the weight on that old coleman, I owned it from 89-94...I have no recollection.

birch - thanks any way! I'm just tryig to figure out how much weight I'll be saving by swtiching to that other pack. I think it might be at least a 4lbs savings! That would put me at, with the usual, around 38 lbs at least.

Are you sure it's empty? Er the pack that is! Maybe one time you weighed it someone's turd or a mouse was in it! lol

stumpy/FG -
That's a good one. No turds (that would have to be one he!! of a turd to weigh in at 5 lbs!) just, as I have found out, one he!! of an old pack. That Coleman has served me well, but is a little (a lot) heavy. Anyone know where I can go to get he thing weighed? Does REI do this??

weigh yourself and then weigh yourself with the pack on. Not usually down to the ounce, but close enough.

The perfect pack scale

One time I weighed the d@nm thin and the scale said it weighed 2 lbs. Next, 8, after that 10 after that, 3 after that 12, after that 11, after that 1, after that 9..........shall I go on??????

Go to a friend's house and use their scale, doing it as FG suggested, but make sure there's no turds any where. Did you check the side pockets! ;-)

They have cheaper scales for weighing fish that aren't as accurate. I think that one is accurate to the ounce. The fishing scales were accurate to the half-pound.

Q, take it in to work...all schools with a wrestling program have a medical quality scale. I bet the custodian would show you were it is and let you in to use it.

I don't know it's weight, but...
...the CIT crew just installed my new computer here at work (Pentium 4, CD-RW, Zip drive, better monitor) and the first thing I did is log into Trail Talk, so I guess it counts as "hiking gear" for the moment.

Smiley, that's me, upgraded, lol. Though TT is loading slowly at the moment (several tries to get log-in through) and I hope it isn't the new "faster" computer. I wish desktops would get into the ultralite movement -- I didn't get a flat screen this time -- those are coming in the next shipment -- and the tower is shorter, but wider, so I actually have had to reconfigure the layout on my desk and, worse, I have to clean out a bunch of papers, etc., to make it all fit. The recycling barrel will be getting a fill up soon.

That's it, have my office follow the "lighten the load" ethic, until I get to the point where when I come to work I "leave no trace."

Oh that's a good one!
First the computer told me it couldn't contact TT, then it managed to post my message twice after I hit retry. So much for LNT, lol; it's like grinding my lug soles into the trail to let everyone know I've been here.

I bought an Aquamira water bottle filter this week, but I didn't use it yet. It looks nice and is an interesting concept with the filter right in the bottle. Cheap, very light and simple too. I hope it turns out to be a good product and I did read some good things about it before I bought it.

Last weekend's gear buying spree:

One pair Columbia zip off pants, slightly used, $14.99 (Tarabull bought the same pair, new for $47!)

One pair TNF sandals, $19, on sale at EMS

One constellation wheel, small size, plastic, $5

One wicking, mesh tank, EMS brand, $6...regularly $18.

One pair of Mountain Hardware hiking shorts (the kind with the chammie lining around the hips and pant legs) regularly $80 on super sale at the benchmark, 5 freakin measly dollars!!!!!!

Patagonia organic cotton jeans, (these aren't for the trail), reg. $68...$10!

REI water resistant, wicking gloves, $22. Not on sale. =(

Am I the queen of bargains or what?!=D
