Just sick and tired of work! !!!!!!
I worked about 80 hours last week and I'm taking all the time (about 145 hours total flextime) in the world to get back there. I have a concert on Friday night, so that looks like the only time I'm going in. Rough last week, now I gots time to listen to music, sleep, #&%!$ with my gear, play with the boy (I kept him home today. He was starting to look at me like I was a stranger :) ), do my laundry, work on the house, gets ready for this weekend (!) or otherwise just putz around the house. I'm gonna make something kick ass for dinner tonight! I'm going to REI after Max wakes up from his nappie. I will be the one driving in the slow lane all the way there!

OK, I went to the mall tonight (which I NEVER do) to take the boy out to see Santa and have dinner at Ruby Tuesday's (my wifes favorite!). We passed by the MC Sporting Goods store andit was going outta business. Everything was on clearance, plus on some items, you could take another 40-50% off. I passed by the camping area, which was pretty picked over. I picked up some water repellent, some patch kits, bug spray, but the main item I scored was a Camelback hydro 1.5 hydration pack. It doesn't have the bladder in it, but I scored it fer only 11.00. And at dinner, I sampled some Christmas Ale from Goose Island. I suggest buying some, it was VERY good!

I just became a member of MEC and bought a 15mm winter evazote pad from them along with a .5 liter lexan Nalgene. I'm going to cut pieces from the pad to make hipbelts for some backpacks. They have some nice gear there, but too bad not all of it is available for sale in the U.S.

More new gear...lovin it!!!
I just picked up some

Mountain Hardwear Nutshell High Ventigaiters

MSR International Stove
MSR Trillium base for my stove
MSR fuel bottles(11 oz and 22 oz)

Does anyone know how long each fuel bottle will last.

How many times can I boil water with the 11 oz?

22 oz ones will last about 4 days when just cooking for you.

11 oz ones last just for 2 days or so.

bbinkley, you must conduct your own experiment! How many times can you boil water with an 11oz. fuel bottle?

A Coleman Peak 1 stove holds the same amount of fuel will run about 1 hour and 10 minutes at full on and 2 hours and 20 minutes at simmer. I would think the MSR would be somewhere in the same range, but I heard that the Whisperlight won't simmer.

I have the regular Whisperlight with a 22 oz bottle. It gets me thru 6 meals with probably 2 boils left. That is in mild (50F+) temps with a aluminum pot heat shield up and no dispersment plate. To get a good simmer you need to be very attentive, and keep the bottle highly pressurized. I have found that the higher pressure really helps with fuel consumption, I think the fuel atomizes better with the extra pressure.

What color did you get Lyra? We're starting a red bootie club over here in MI. You can be an honorary memeber...if yer boots are red!

I got a KEWL new Brunton flask. The thing looks sorta like a fuel bottle, (same shape), but weighs soooo little. It's a lovely metalic charcoal color. I also got a new bandingo and a lexan french coffee press.

Pepperdog sent me a foldable bucket after I raved over her's at the Montanapalooza firefighting incident. Doubles as a rain hat.

Lyra, you need to write up your own "1,001 Unconventional Uses for a Thermarest". You'd make a bundle!

I got a pair of Black Diamond Ascent trekking poles yesterday. 1/2 off at REI Outlet.com, one day only. The TT Yoho trip taught me how essential they were.

Also Patagonia Dragonfly shell. Water resistant, wind proof, the most breathable they make. 3 oz and stuffed, the size of a ladies fist!I bought it for running in but I'll use it bp'ing too. I have to give it the shower test tonight.

Also got as a gift a very cool blowtorch-like butane lighter, something I really needed.
