Should be on my doorstep Friday courtesy of FedEx. Thank you G00SE !!! ¦ ) Isn't he the sweetest?” 12:09:45 PM 4/10/02 “oh yeah? well, Tarpie gets me cool things all the time, so there! why, just the other day he got me drunk! heeeeehehe!! ;-) good stuff, skully. :-D” 12:21:21 PM 4/10/02 Whoops!! “At first I thought that you were saying that GOOSE ordered you a jacket from an online store named the Gander. Duh! I was going to do a search......” 1:08:24 PM 4/10/02 New gear “I just finnished reading all the messages about new gear. Due to layoffs, cutbacks and now IRS taxes...I can only afford a can of waterproofing for my old gear. But I still get to go backpacking.. :)” 1:42:20 PM 4/10/02 “Sorry about that Splash, I was harkening back to G00SE's birthday thread. Chip, at least you get to go bping. And that's really the important part, now isn't it?” 3:26:49 PM 4/10/02 “I finally ordered the "tree hugger" straps for my 2 Hennessy Hammocks, but I may be tightening the belt for awhile...the wife's job ends next Monday. Hope she comes up with a new one soon. (good thing I bought most everything I really need during the last two years!)” 6:19:07 PM 4/10/02 “STP rocks!!!!!!!I love spending money there!!! But I am very proud of myslef I have spent no money on gear for a whole week!!!! That is a all time best for me!!! Patt on the back!!!! 8)” 6:21:49 PM 4/10/02 “I didn't buy much for a long time, but now that I paid Xmas off and know that I don't owe the government tax money, I've been shopping. Bought my girls dresses on sale for church, shoes for the oldest who grew two shoe sizes in three months, got a two person Hilleberg tent, got another down sleeping bag at REI, some rainclothes for the oldest, 10 pairs of socks for the oldest daughter at Target, and now socks and coolmax clothes for my husband and me. Still need hiking boots or trail shoes for the oldest daughter, and maybe a pack for her if I can decide on which one. With three lightweight down sleeping bags (and one heavy one), and two lightweight pepsi can stoves, our family of four is ready to do lots of backpacking this year. On our first trip out, we had two heavy bulky sleeping bags and one down bag. My husband slept with a fleece blanket, but of course he was freezing. I'm also hoping to do some mother-daughter backpacking with the Hilleberg tent. Life is good!” 6:56:25 PM 4/10/02 “Ya life is good when you get to spend it with people you love and get to go backpacking with. 8)” 7:00:31 PM 4/10/02 Fleece bag “Hey Splash, I bought a fleece bag that wasn't as warm as I had hoped, but I found that if I wrapped it in my nylon poncho, it worked great. I have an old military issue rain poncho with snaps around the perimeter, and you can shape a sleeping bag out of it. Plus you can wear it if it rains.” 7:43:03 AM 4/11/02 “Only one day left!!!” 7:45:10 AM 4/11/02 “Went to buy a meal @ REI today, came out forty three dollars later. What did I get? Matches, the meal, a nalgene and some fantastic shearling lined slippers that'll make great camp shoes.” 11:09:16 AM 4/11/02 “So, you'll have my pipe and slippers ready when I get into camp Fri night?” 11:20:29 AM 4/11/02 “Car camping with Hugh Hefner!” 11:30:58 AM 4/11/02 “NO you get there first LeSubtil and make sure you clean up all those pesky leaves and the dirt at the campsite. My slippers wouldn't fit you silly.” 11:34:06 AM 4/11/02 “Wooooohooooooo! It's here, it's here! And it's supposed to rain all weekend!!! Wooooohooooo!” 11:56:47 AM 4/12/02 “Skullcap, you're one sick individual....rain...ugh. ;O) Wanted to go skiing tomorrow...but it's going to rain the whole day... Will go sno boarding Sunday though...supposed to be sunny and 50F.” 10:24:26 PM 4/12/02 “Good luck with the jacket, Scully. We are supposed to have rain all weekend too, but in our case, we need it!” 6:57:43 AM 4/13/02 “Nine million drowned rats out at the National! heh heh heh heh” 7:23:27 AM 4/13/02 “Yeah, G00SE told me about that. Teeheehee, wish I was there. I want to get poured on. You know, the posts that I find most amusing are the ones where someone gets new gear and then prays for rain/snow/sub-zero cold, etc., whatever's appropriate to the new gear so they can use it. We truly are a warped group of individuals, aren't we? Buncha sadists. Pretty much explains some of the threads, doesn't it? Well sadly for me but luckily for everyone else that lives around here it hasn't rained as forcast. We're just getting scattered showers. If it had rained as forcast we surely would have had flooding again.” 11:37:28 AM 4/13/02 “Same here. It just LOOKS like it will rain. My kids were fighting today. I said "If you two don't stop, I'm going to be forced to take you camping!" That got a good laugh out of them.” 12:10:09 PM 4/13/02 “It got a good laugh out of me, too! ¦ ) .” 12:15:07 PM 4/13/02 “D@mn it, it didn't rain today...just very cloudy and threatening rain...just blew a ski day away. :o( I think I'll go inline skating later.” 2:15:14 PM 4/13/02 “Oh yeah! I went for a little dayhike today and it poured the rain on me! And it was wind-driven rain, too! Wooooooooohooooooo!” 3:32:29 PM 4/14/02 “Must be fever driven delirium! Scully needs an ambulance.....or a beer.” 4:05:52 PM 4/14/02 “No new gear, but I have a new beer. Repaired toilets today. I guess I have new fill valves.” 6:36:04 PM 4/14/02 “Friday I baught some new soxs and a new hat and a new map. 8)” 7:20:34 PM 4/14/02 “Got back to the trailhead, and Poppycock left a brand new Ti spork on my windshield wiper!” 12:52:16 AM 4/15/02 “Got me a new copy of the "Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness and Citico Creek Wilderness" map. It's the best map by far of the area, according to those in the know. Can be purchased from the Little River Trading Company.” 1:05:05 AM 4/15/02 “Published by the USDA, forest service.” 1:05:58 AM 4/15/02 “Little River Trading Company 410 S. Washington Street Maryville, TN 37804 865/681-4141” 1:08:31 AM 4/15/02 “4 cans of Mountainhouse dinners” 1:46:27 AM 4/15/02 “im doing good. i've controlled myself for almost a month now. one day very soon im gonna explode, though. i actually went to a gear store the other day intending to relapse and couldn't really find anything i needed, or wanted bad enough to buy it even though i don't need it.” 9:54:23 AM 4/15/02 “UPS attacked Friday: 1) Princeton Tec Aurura (oooh ah) 2) Summer bag / Winter liner 3) STFU t-shirt” 10:11:58 AM 4/15/02 “(the Aurura is a lot like the Aurora)” 10:13:39 AM 4/15/02 all of a sudden i just lost control “went out today and came back with a thermarest ultralite 3/4, new capilene short sleeve shirt i also ordered a bug bivy and siltarp.” 7:58:03 PM 4/15/02 “Way to go JOSH!!!!! Thats the only way to do it! Spend Spend Spend! 8)” 8:01:55 PM 4/15/02 “LOL at Tilt! I want one of those t-shirts. But will they ban me from girl scouts if I wear it?” 8:12:29 PM 4/15/02 “I like Smack That Face Up!!! LMAO!!!!! 8)” 8:16:32 PM 4/15/02 “I just bought all new tires for the Subie -- does that count for anything?” 9:08:19 PM 4/15/02 “Ya!It does! 8)” 9:09:55 PM 4/15/02 “My "tree hugger" straps from Hennessy Hammocks came in the mail yesterday, much sooner than expected -- via Canadian mail, rather than from their U.S. shipping drop.” 6:53:43 PM 4/16/02 “I am due in one of those camp chairs that you can put your therma rest in (can't remember the name) and a new North Face rain jacket. YEA!!” 7:11:29 PM 4/16/02 “pekka, let us know how you like the "tree hugger" straps. I've used my several times with good results. Some TT'ers don't like them.” 8:12:11 PM 4/16/02 “I'm counting on the extra length they provide to help deal with larger diameter trees that can be encountered here in the Northwoods. Options, I always like equipment with options. So the next step will be to get some trekking poles so I can do a Sgt. Rock and set a hammock up as a ground unit in a pinch. Gotta have "reasons" to buy more gear.” 10:08:46 PM 4/16/02 “Got new Burton Driver snowboarding boots and Burton snowboarding gloves. I've always worn size 5, but now they tell me I'm a size 4. We'll see.” 5:02:34 AM 4/22/02 “New toys are always fun Snow Nymph!!!! 8)” 5:46:05 AM 4/22/02 “SnowNymph, what tiny feet you have! When my first daughter was born, she had such bitty feet, I said "whew! she didn't take after my side of the family." Not true. She's nine now and wearing size 6 1/2.” 6:44:14 AM 4/22/02 “Snow Nymph, ever have the dreaded "heel lift" when sno-boarding? I wiped out a few times because there was too much "play" in the boots. I tie them really tight...but I still have to re-tie them after 1 or 2 hrs. of boarding. I wear a size 8 men's....I might check out a size 7.5 next year. What kind of bindings do you use? I got myself a pair of Flow bindings a month ago (New Gear!!!) for my 12 year old board...very fast entry...just slip in my foot and fold the high-back into place...no need to fiddle with straps.” 9:44:33 PM 4/22/02 “Stanlee, YES! that heel slides out, especially on a quick steep turn. I've been measured before and I've always been a 5. Do feet shrink with age???? The guy in the store tied the boots so tight my feet went numb. I had to take them off and retie them myself. Felt better. I have the Burton bindings (whatever was out last year, black & turquoise). I strap in on the lift, so I can ride off and follow the skiers. Guess I should put the boots on and break them in a little.” 10:44:33 PM 4/22/02 Jump to Page << prev
