With my new Flow bindings, I "strap-in" on the chairlift also. When I get off the chairlift, I have complete control of the board right away.

A few of my friends have "step-in" bindings...they're very fast to get into, but they get clogged up with snow sometimes. Also, I heard horror stories where they can get unclipped when going thru the glades (trees and bushes).

Their boots are very heavy too. If the cleats are at the bottom of the boot, they can get worn out from walking in the parking lot.

I've always strapped in on the lift because I never learned how to get off the chair gracefully. Being strapped in gives me control, plus no one has to wait on me. Don't like a cold butt either.

Something else I'm looking for:
Has anyone seen those metal decals that stick to your vehicle? I have a snowboarder decal, but also want a backpacker/hiker: snowboarder decal

If you see something like this, let me know.

That's cool...I didn't even know metal stickers existed.

Why stop Tekapo, buying new gear is great.

Just got a Camelback Cloud Walker day pack. Holds 2 liters plus enough room for lunch, poncho, first aid kit, and a few more things. I'm gonna use on my AT section hike this weekend - I'm slackpacking this time.

I hiked 3 hrs with it yesterday and it was very comfortable.

Too bad those camelbacks or other brands don't come with 2 separate bladders....that way you can carry water and orange/apple juice at the same time. Hmmm, that might be a new invention.

It's like this.

Years ago as a youngster, I was in my neighbor's backyard picking apricots. You know, grazing. In a passion for tart apricots, one by one, I forgot that it was possible to over do it. We were swimming in as many apricots that the tree would offer. It was a huge tree.

At the end of the day, it killed my desire for apricots and being in that backyard to enjoy them.

what a deal!!!
Took the size 4 snowboarding boots back since this weekends backpack was 8 miles south of Mammoth. This time I got the size 5 that I originally thought I wore (the salesperson kept telling me I wore a 4, and the boots would stretch). It was $30 less, and instead of 20% off, this weeks sale was 40% off. I got $69 back!

Good show, SN.

Got a bunch of clothes from Sierra Trading Post including a couple of pairs of smartwools for cheap, some wicking undies, a white, long-sleved cool max t to keep the sun and bugs off and some ugly ass shorts I'm returning. Also just got my sweet GSI triple-coated non-stick 12 oz frypan. Backcountry omelets, baby!

I'll be looking for a pair of sno boarding boots where the lining can be tied down. Right now my boots are only tied down at the shell.

finally got what i wanted!!
i've been wanting an arc'teryx pack since the very first time i tried one on....

every time i would go to galyan's i would dutifully make my pilgrimage to the backpack department to gaze longingly and to fondle that sweet little bora....

then, i would sneak a peak at the price tag and reality would overcome me and i would drop back to mother earth with a thud....

one day....some day....YOU WILL BE MINE!!!!

today is that day!!!

i found a great place in montreal (www.altitude-sports.com) that discounts those bad boras enough that i made the quantum leap....

an arc'teryx bora 80 (inkspot color)

i've got it all loaded up and i am trekking throughout the house....can hardly wait to hit the trail....it is soooooo comfy!!

Clip Flashlight 2 owners...
Sierra Trading Post has a sale on the footprint for the Clip Flashlight 2 right now. $7.00.

It doesn't say what year they're for, but the dimensions look about right. I would guess 2001, but have no way of knowing for sure.
At the worst, you'll have a foot print that you can use to fastpack your Clip 2 with.

I just scored a SWWWWEEEET parafoil stunt kite. It's pretty big, about 56" across and frameless so it packs down to nothing. 80 lb test and will handle winds up to 30 mph. I haven't weighed it but I would say it's easily under a pound and even came with it's own little fanny pack. I'm headed to the Lost Coast for four days of bping starting Sat. and the winds there are always at least 10-15 mph. Gonna be fuuunnnn. Will also give me a chance to try out the percell trench ultralight grill (4 ozs) and 12 oz GSI triple-coated hard anodized frypan I bought. I can taste it already. Coal roasted, grilled pork tenderloin. Three-egg crabmeat omelets with hash browns. Oh man, this is gonna be five star bping all the way baby! Chef Boy-R-G at your service! This is DEFINITELY gonna get me in good with the woman.

Just picked up a new platypus "pack" holds a 70ounce ziploc style platy, plus 400 cui of gear. Small hipbelt and sternum strap should work well for trail and mid-distance runs.

Just got a beautiful long sleeve synthetic shirt, polartec label but looks like a typical wickinmg shirt, much softer though.

Got two new mesh-wicking bras and four pair of smartwool socks.

And the Bat Ray!!! It's soooo cool. A breeze to set up and super roomy. I like it.

Thanks Sass. I can't wait! Luckily I'll be taking a chickee with me as the place is pretty devoid of women (and people for that matter) which in this case, is a good thing :)

How's that Bat Ray? I was eyeballing it at STP. Does it look like it would give good coverage in a storm? Can you batten down that front end that looked so open and meshy in the pic? Just curious.

I probably didn't need another sleeping bag, but I got one. REI solo light, 2 lbs, 20 deg, and it came in "short". Used my 20% off coupon.

In a selfless move today, I ordered some gear for my daughter. I used my REI anniversary coupon and ordered her a CamelBak Trailblazer hydration day pack. It's only two months early for her birthday, but now I can coax her to go on some hikes this summer when I visit..."Come on, you've got that nifty little pack kiddo!"

The package may not come to my house, but I can still vicariously track it once REI puts it into the Big Brown Truck system.
