plantar faciatis (ouch)
This is like soooo painful!!! I decided to clean up the lot next door wearing only my tevas. Usually this is not a problem but apparently this time I over did it. I stayed off my feet for a month and a half and wore those heal pads but nothing helped. I made an appointment with a pediatrist and got "the shot". I heard stories of pain so was quite worked up by appointment time. I went to them before and they are very good but I could not believe this would be anything but excruciating. Lucky me! It was totally sensation free!!!! The shot has really helped but I think if I do much walking the problem will return. They are going to make me orthotics next month. I don't have the actual spur, just the inflamed facia. Has anyone else had this? What did you do? At least my friends don't have to listen to me whine about wanting to hike for awhile. I should have worn shoes that day. Oh well.

Get well soon Margo.

Don't Tevas have an arch support to keep the weight off your heals better?

Hey Margo, I know your pain. I limped around for just over a year thinking it would alleviate itself..or at least I'd get used to the pain. Well, it didn't work out that way and I opted for "the shot". I was told that I'd probably need surgery later. But I've been pain-free for the past year. Wasn't "the shot" fun?

My tevas were a little old. I think my problem was that I "overdid" it that one day. I worried and worried about that shot but mine was totally sensation free!!! It was unreal!!! I've had foot surgery for bunions, rotated toes and spurs and it fixed my feet. I've heard the heel surgery is risky. I don't have the actual spur, just the inflamed tendon. I'm going to try and take better care of my feet so they will stay better.
I was so worried about that shot it almost made me sick. The doc put a nerve block in my ankle and I felt absolutly nothing when I got the shot. I was expecting pain when the anesthisia wore off but again - nothing. They can make it comfortable for the patient.

margo, WHAT? THE SHOT? I've never heard of this before. You got in all this trouble by merely wearing flat (unarched) shoes for a prolonged length of time?

I hope you feel better soon.

I've had some trouble with this over the last several years. I found a good website that explained the issues. I was able to "cure" mine with stretching. I printed out the website info but cannot yet find the url; if I can I'll post it.

Try this site: heelspurs. The link near the top "the longest article available..." is the article I referenced above. Good Luck.

I have never had this problem, but I wrote a patent on a device designed to treat it. It was licensed to Johnson and Johnson, so I assume it is on the market. It is a foot orthotic that you wear at night. It has an adjustable footbed, which allows you to select different angles for your foot. It seems to me like it stretctes the facia during the night. It might be worth a try. Good luck!

I had the same thing a couple years ago. I experienced pain for several months and tried an over the counter orthotic which relieved the pain immediately. The proper foot support was all I needed to heal. I think my insert may be the Superfeet brand discussed in the Phil Oren thread a couple weeks ago.

RE: plantar faciatis (ouch)
I found those websites a few weeks ago. I also talked to some people that were instantly cured by stretching but it didn't work for me. The over the counter orthotics helped a little but were so bulky it was hard to walk and not twist my ankle. The foot doctor gave me some neat ones that are much more comfortable and I am to have custom orthotics made, just for that plantar tendon.
I used to walk barefoot most of the time and when I got my house continued this habit. I have wood floors and ceremic tile so that probably didn't help. I'm also on my feet a lot at work.
