I took the job (for the $$$) and, true, there were no blacks. What there was, though, was some of the grungiest, dumbest, drunkest, most violent, and generally backassward bunch of "trash" that I had ever met. It made me miss suburban Detroit and my former neighbors including the blacks. Not everybody was like that. Not even the majority. The point is that being slimy is not exclusive to any one race. Too bad we can't all be as open minded as the newgirl.” 1:36:04 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Mapfreak, save your breath! You are not going to be able to convince some of the folks on this board that you are not dangerous and would make a lousy neighbor. I suppose you have been pre-judged, but that is nothing you have not been exposed to all your life, I imagine. Newgirl, periodically on this board, someone will start a new thread to complain about how unfair everything is to them. Others will chime in and mentioned how they or someone they know or someone in the news was hurt or victimized by some group and how they are justified in passing judgment on others based on this experience. They get all riled up, debait (sic) a new participant, and then go home and clean their gun.” 1:56:20 PM 6/04/01 Whining White Victim Wannabees “Mapfreak -you are a breath of fresh air. For most of you... look at how irate and pissed off you are about whatever slight effects of anti-white bigotry you think you are experiencing. Think about the events that justify your anger for just a minute. Now if all black people responded the way you do, think about how much anti-white hostility there would be. Cops still enforce stop blacks for "n-----'n in a no n-----'n zone," "driving while black" is still probable cause to stop people in plenty of towns. I have all kinds of friends and hear all kinds of talk. Privileged white people with time to play on their computers and focus energy on leisure activities like back packing look plain silly whining and cussing about their racial victimization. Thank goodness for folks like Kleetn, Mapfreak, Le Subtil and newgirl...” 1:58:32 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “bacpac is right (oh my gawd), why wouldn't a person want to live in a neighborhood that is more pleasant. steve hiker, is there any more room on that shuttle to the moon, lol. kleetn, I didn't move because of the blacks, but I was looking for a more peaceful enviornment. My neighborhood in NY had loads of young Italian boys that were very disrepectful to women. There was no where else in NY that I felt like moving to. I moved here for hiking and the beauty of WA, and a nicer enviornment. What am I doing to foster better relations between whites and blacks. The answer is nothing. On a one to one basis, I treat everyone the same. I'm not going out of my way to coddle anyone if thats what you mean. I had a black women in my bldg that wanted to be friendly with me. I certainly didn't turn her away. We were friends, but know she moved. She was a lovely lady. From my perspective, any neighborhood that is all one nationality can be overwhelming in certain ways. kleetn, I bet you don't live in a black community, and why would that be?” 2:09:29 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Most of people's reasons for being racist I've heard sound like this - "Once, a friend of a friend of mine was jumped by a bunch of black guy's. that's why I don't like them." Very seldom do I hear an actual senario where the person had any violent encounter with any other nationality. Some people just need grasp at anything to justify thier hatred. Years ago a group of white people tried to lynch my uncle. Does that give me any right to hate white people. I hate the people that did this to my uncle, but not an entire race. Tell me Bacpac and Steve, has anything been done to you that was so bad by every black person you have seen or do you just watch a lot of television?” 2:17:25 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “flyguy, do you live in a black neighborhood? Why aren't you seeking out the "diversity". Why can't blacks accept the fact that there are a lot of bad blacks out there? Why do they defend bad black people? You should see the problems we are having here over a cop shooting a black man after he was dragging a cop attached to his car. They stopped him for irradict driving, and he took off. Why don't some blacks want to rid their streets of the bad people? Does any white person want to keep dangerous white people on the street?” 2:22:14 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Thanks LeSubtil, flyguy6x, and PedXing. I hold the idea I expressed earlier very strongly. My parents taught me that a person should not be liked or disliked based on skin color, religious background, sexual pref., the clothes they wear, the car they drive, the language they speak, they said things to me like, "Never ask a rancher how many head of cattle he owns." In other words, it is not important if a person is rich or poor. It is the individual, inside, that makes it or breaks it for me. I have said it on other threads and I will say it again, our world would be pretty frickin' boring w/out a little twist now and then. Those of you who want all mac and no cheese are going to have some pretty plain dinners.” 2:33:44 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Mapfreak, Your generaliztions are getting on my nerves. You are guilty of the same associative behavior you blame white racists for. "Most peoples reason...." Bullcrap! I have been personally attacked by gangs of blacks on more than one occasion. So have my brothers. My children have been victims of black racism. I have knocked heads with more brothers than I can remember. Don't try and convince us that blacks are the innocent victims. What about your black racist friends? Do they claim to know someone, who who knew someone, who was attacked by whites? You didn't mention them. You just talked about the white racists. Until you recogize the problem it will not go away. The cultural difference between white and black America is so vast it cannot be explained away with a few generic critisms.” 2:38:43 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “"Why can't blacks accept the fact that there are a lot of bad blacks out there? Why do they defend bad black people? Why don't some blacks want to rid their streets of the bad people?" lipstick hiker 2:22:14 PM 6/4/01 I like you Lips, but you need to listen to some real live black people before you make silly assumptions like that. Those are incredibly ignorant questions, because they rest on falsehoods. Most Black people I've known are concerned about criminals in their neighborhood, they know about black criminals and they want them in jail. They have no illusions about black skin conveying some kind of innocence.” 2:41:12 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Ya see, LH, this is where we butt heads. To you its a "black neighborhood" or a "white neighborhood." You don't see how blind you are. Follow this link 40 good neighbors to an awards page for my neighborhood. To see photos ("colored" not "Black or White") find the link at the top of the page. In short, LH, yeah, I walk the walk, talk the talk. One of these 40 good neighbors is my best friend. Can you guess who?” 2:42:22 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.” 2:46:45 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “There are vocal members of each race and religion to complain and try to present themselves as representing the majority of their kind, but I don't believe that they really represent more than a small angry minority of their minority or majority. Most black people are good kind people, and don't want criminals on the street. There are troublemakers in every race. I had to fight white kids and black kids when I was growing up. It was scary no matter who the opponent was. I want my kids to live in as safe an environment as possible. I want their friends to have good values because that reinforces what I teach. A lot of posters here are not saying they are prejudiced, just that they want the anger to be put away. Go forward. This society has made room for africans, asian indians, chinese, japanese, arabians, iranians, lebanese, pacific islanders, indonesians, south americans, europeans, etc....My father in law is Filipino. Asking people to blend in and pull their own weight is not being prejudiced.” 2:55:59 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Mapfreak, I haven?t been following this from the beginning. This topic comes up from time to time here, and the same old people say the same old things and it makes poor ken too sad to even get into it. I know that when I start reading I?ll start getting mad, then I?ll make a well-thought comment that takes me a lot of time to formulate (this is one subject that I?m not a wiseass about) and then the same old people will just say the same old things. The responses are generally of the form ?I?m not racist but?? then they will go on at length to explain the justifications for their racism. Others are more forthright, as you can see. Certain people here have been called to task time after time on their bigoted attitudes, and what they have said above is what they have said before and what they will say again. My purpose here is not to educate them, but to inform you: keep your anti-bigotry essay handy because if you stick around you?ll be needing it again.” 2:57:30 PM 6/04/01 Whining White Victim Wannabees “"I have been personally attacked by gangs of blacks on more than one occasion. So have my brothers. My children have been victims of black racism. I have knocked heads with more brothers than I can remember." Wow.... Stranger than truth! Tales of racial persecution in the bowels of white America.” 3:03:14 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “flyguy, at this point, I can only see you talkin and not walkin, because the link to the pictures did not work for me, but I will certainly take your word on it. I would put more weight on what you say, than other people who talk from their white neighborhoods saying they welcome all blacks wholeheatedly. ken, glad to see you. This thread wouldn't be the same without your posts. Yeah, I'm spouting the same crap again. Yeah, I'm still saying that I am not predjudice against any nationality. I would never turn away a black person as my friend. I don't work, and this time. When I'm outside I'm biking and hiking, and I don't run into blacks while doing these things. So I don't have any black friends.” 3:18:41 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Mostly, I find this thread disappointing. I was attracted to the idea of trying out bping, because the people I know who do it are really great, open-minded friendly sorts. I came here to post to meet more of those people, to read this is sad. Obviously, all bpers don't share the same ideas and (as I believe) people win or lose w/ me based on who they are individually, but I did not expect to see so much "my side is better than yours" or "my side is more victimized than yours" or "my side deserves this and yours deserves that." Disheartening, really.” 3:24:26 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Asking people to blend in and pull their own weight is not being prejudiced. young&creaky 2:55:59 PM 6/4/01 It depends on what people have to do in order to "blend in."” 3:24:49 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Lips, thanks for identifying yourself as an offending party; I didn?t want to point any fingers. I?d like to make an impassioned speech, but I just don?t have it in me today. Maybe another time.” 3:25:44 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Ken, see "On The Lighter Side." I didn't really want to read this awful stuff today either, so I decided to post something more fun and less intense.” 3:44:23 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Yeah, what Ken said at 2:57.” 3:55:33 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “ken, I know we don't always agree on things, but I welcome your comments. Where would a discussion be without an opposing viewpoint. We all live under different circumstances which bring us to how where we feel about different things and people. I don't think a person can be condemed so much for experiencing bad things all the time from people of the same race. It's their experience, and they are entitled to their feelings. I like to say my piece, and then let it go. Now it's on to Tomato Soup.....” 4:05:09 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “LH, sorry the picture link didn't work. It worked shortly after I posted it (I tested it, ya know?) I hope you took the opportunity to read the text at least? I'll cite another source here in the hopes of enlightening you (Its not " I would put more weight on what you say, than other people who talk from their white neighborhoods saying they welcome all blacks wholeheatedly" Lets give this a try Philly link It is a pretty unique place.” 4:19:05 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Pedxing I guess we could argue for days over what blending in means. I don't mean "become white", but some contributing of culture and absorbing of culture. The 'melting pot' idea. I have some black friends that talk about their perspective with me and some acquaintances that don't want to bother, kind of like TT posters, some want to explain to a newbie and some don't want to bother.” 4:32:52 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “flyguy, I did read the article, and click on a few biographies. It does sound like a special place. Are you on the biography list? I think the reason that it's not like that in other places is because the blacks & whites are in their own communities. There is no socializing between people unless it is in work or school etc. Is your community actually in Philly or the outskirts or in the country?” 5:05:38 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Think about a clear, cold stream tumbling over moss-carpeted rocks. Think about the stock market. Think about Renaissance paintings. Think about noble whales, gracefully swimming through the briny deep, blissfully oblivious to the existence of threads like this one. Try to be more like them. :)” 5:29:36 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “In the city, but not in the industrial or business "center." Residential neighborhood. My wife was one of the folks listed.” 5:29:47 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “I guess for privacy issues, you may not want to say what your wife's name is, but if you don't mind, I'd like to know.” 5:35:28 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Youngandcreaky. I don't want to argue with you and I wasn't trying to attack you. I just wanted to point out that blending in can demand a lot... sometimes it calls for enormous sacrifices, sometimes its impossible. Sometimes a minority can blend in comfortably until something happens that is beyond description and belief. If everyone in the minority and everyone in the majority was willing to make adjustments and accomodations life would be a lot easier. I think this country is going to be more like a stock pot than a melting pot, and society will be more gumbo than purree - at least for a long time to come.” 5:37:27 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “flyguy, or you could send me her name privately at lipstick_hiker@hotmail.com. I can be counted on to be confidential.” 5:37:52 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “The biggest enemy of the black man, (besides himself of course) are the whiney do gooder liberals that have no concept of black culture.” 5:53:17 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “bacpac, I know some of us have been undersiege by blacks at times, but don't you think there are a few exceptions, aren't there any nice blacks, lol?” 5:57:07 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “"Right on, brotha Bacpac, yo!"” 5:57:50 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “I have met a few blacks that I felt were friends. The majority of my exeriences with blacks have been negative.” 6:03:55 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Pedxing, bad people do bad things. We do need to separate the bad behavior from the cultural pedigree. Gumbo sounds great, puree sounds boring. Blending in has something to do with avoiding the attention of the police. Any teenager, regardless of color, learns this pretty early after receiving the drivers license. Adults prefer to drive cars with local plates when visiting other states. You never want to stand out. For minorities, this issue is especially of concern and fear. I don't like the fact that they are treated differently, and yet I hesitate to tell the police what to do because I am not willing to strap on a gun and take their place. The answer is to do what it takes to get a racially diverse group of quality police officers and then let these good officers decide how best to catch the criminals.” 6:06:02 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “flyguy6x... Thanks for the link... It was much more interesting than 90% of the rantings in this thread! to the WASPs who feel so threatened by so-called "reverse racism" -- ask yourself: 1. Have I ever been "assumed guilty" by the police because of the color of my skin? 2. Has a store clerk ever "not wasted" his/her time on you because you were black? I know of a black college student, right here in small town Iowa, who was beat up at his part-time job. The employer says: "It takes two..." If you think this happens "just as often" against whites, then you are (IMHO) very much mis-informed. (pardon the grammer...) I don't understand how can you say, "Just get over it" while you rant and rave for two days?! Don't you see the irony of that? Anyway, thanks for letting me get my two-cents worth in... I respect your right to an opinion different than mine... (Especially lipstick because she likes guys with meat on their bones!!!) ....but I think that PedXing's opinions ring the most true for me. Peace. Respectfully, theiowanerd” 6:07:11 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Gumbo it is then Y & C! Here's too good eatin!” 6:15:03 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “More like oil and water if you ask me.” 6:17:46 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “bacpac, thanks for answering the question, I was just curious. When I say people should blend in, it doesn't mean they should leave their culture behind.” 6:22:32 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “bizarre. if i take out my contacts, i'll be lucky if i can tell that something is human or not. some humans are just dumbasses. i do not need to see them to tell which ones are which.” 6:43:47 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “LOL Rad, well put.” 6:46:34 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Slick comment Bacpac...” 6:48:41 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “TrlHiker made an excellent point about hispanic people that totally shoots the "we can't get ahead because we are poeple of color" theory out of the water. I am not racist, and I have read all the posts in this thread, and can say I don't think anyone here is racist. Having said that, we need to call our panzie assed, politcally correct politicans and let our voices be heard about this. If they don't respond, vote them out, in the mean time, view everyone as INDIVIDUALS, and not as a group. I know quite a few black people that work very hard, and I admire them because I know the hurdles they had to jump to become decent citizens. And another thing, and please excuse me if I shout, WE SHOULD NEVER LOWER THE BAR FOR ANYONE! That kinda touches a nerve with me.” 6:49:26 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Right Frickin' On, Drinking Bear! You hit the nail right on the head. I might marry you after all. HeHeHe” 7:01:10 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Drinking Bear. Most Civil Service exams add points to the scores for veterans. Some places add more points for war veterans. Are we lowering the bar for them, since they could beat out people who didn't score as well on the aptitude test? Who here is angry about the idea that some schools and employers "lower their standards for veterans" or give them special preferences.” 7:05:19 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Oh, and one more point, minorities of color, creed and should not run this country, the MAJORITY does. The more we buckle to minority thoughts, the more we will all suffer (check out Hitler and the Nazis and how they got thier start)” 7:05:39 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “I'm tempted not to say anything more, but I'll throw this out because it's what I think. I tend to support the oil and water analogy. Blacks have been in North America for almost 300 years yet they still don't really fit in and the NAACP is yelling louder than ever. There's just something different about white European-based culture and the crude, drum-beating (e.g., rap) culture of blacks of African descent.” 7:12:32 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “Uh . . . maybe not.” 7:13:27 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “That should be "over" 300 years. (Another typo)” 7:14:23 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “I don't think that is neccesarily right either. My pops is a vet (Nam'), and he was able to attend some college for free. he deserved it, but lowering the bar because he was a vet, he wouldn't nor would I agree. When you lower the bar for someone, anyone, you hold everyone back. I had an interesting conversation with a German Phd student at OSU about our education system. We have lowered the bar so much in this country that her first two years in college was review for her!” 7:15:11 PM 6/04/01 RE: Why is this not considered racist? “I couldn't respect myself in a job where someone had to lower the bar. If I can't meet standards somewhere, I'll go look somewhere else, and not call it discrimination against women. A person has to move forward with their intelligence and instincts, not with the number of a lawyer in hand for suing. Life isn't always fair. Knock on enough doors and one will open.” 7:38:36 PM 6/04/01 Jump to Page << prev
