RE: Why is this not considered racist?
Mr. Steadman, Hitler and the Nazi Party were minorities in Germany. They essentially scared people and used violent tactics (stormtroopers) to get into power. FYI. Now, being a historian, I can also make the same arguement about the founding fathers of this country (minorities), and their abuse of a race (blacks-slavery). The difference is, the majority finally realized in this country that slavery was wrong, and that all are created equal. Our founding fathers were wrong for owning slaves, but very document they penned was able to right thier wrong. Hitler wanted power, and to create a seperate superior race through that power. He used his constituents to gain the power, and eliminated his enemies.

If you look at folks like David Duke and Louis Farrakan and Jesse Jackson, and Gloria Stienem, and Jerry Farwell, which side do these folks in the minority fall on. Who's interests are they looking out for? Are they trying to better overall society through their cause, or just their own? You make the call.

RE: Why is this not considered racist?
I was going to just let this drop but can't let a few of this (questionable) scenerios I've read go unanswered.

1. Someone said something about black people not being able to get jobs. While I'm sure that is true, disciminating against other races isn't an answer either, I left home and went to school because it was very hard for unskilled white people to get decent jobs, those were all reserved for "minorities" which in that area was white people.
Which brings me to point 2. I've lived where there were no black people and I've lived where they were the majority. I've lived in quite a few poor areas because in spite of the impression some of the people here try to give, not all black people are poor and not all white people are wealthy or middle class. I've had to do without hotwater, AC, cars, eating out, ect. The "poor" black people I know not only have all those things, but cell phones, hair do's, fingernails, new cars, and government subsidized housing, plus food for the kids. I had to work and take out loans to go to school, now they have special "minority" grants and "programs" for "minorities". Oh, back to my point, I don't know whos trying to fool who here but I'll take my chances with the poor white folks any day, even the most prejidiced white community I've lived in treats "minorities" better than they treat others or themselves.
I'm just making generalizations here, there are always exeptions, but like bacpac said, government dependence has made the situation much worse for blacks now. They have very low expectations for themselves and little motivation to better themselves

RE: Why is this not considered racist?
Before I get more crap, not only do I have many black co-workers, my supervisor is also black. My supervisor and one of my co-workers isn't into the "black culture" thing so they get talked about by the other black people and made fun of because they don't talk slang, they don't listen to rap, they read mainstream books and listen to mainstream music. One of the nightshift girls quit and moved away a few years ago and a couple of her peers made the comment about even though she was a good worker they "hated her because she didn't fight the fight"
Unfrigginbelievable.

The deafening whine of the aspiring race warriors.
BacPac:

My son goes to a school with no ethnic majority, they've competed for plenty of things where there is affirmative action. Most of the employers in my fields (mental health and aceemia) have very strong affirmative action guidelines. I'd like to have had better jobs than I've had. I don't blame other people for my problems, I don't whine about being oppressed by minority groups or racial hiring preferences. Some of my tax money goes to support unworthy people, rich and poor. I'm not whining about that either.

Bigotry bugs me. Nastiness bugs me. The combination of whining and bellicose bigotry in your posts is disgusting to a lot of people. Look at the start of Newgirl's "lighter side" thread. And no, I don't think she is PC. And I don't think I'm PC. Some people still have their sense of smell.

I've found things to like and respect about you. If I knew you in real life, there might well be more things I'd like and respect about you. But the kind of racial bigotry and resentment you post is nasty stuff, sometimes I turn away in disgust. Sometimes I just feel I have to respond.

Why is this not considered racist?
About 6 years ago I moved from Alabama to Atlanta, GA. I chose an area just outside of town that reflected my life in Alabama. We also chose this area for the schools. When we moved here the school were my children attend was 98% white with 2% on the free lunch program. The average state scores at the time were 78% but this school was 99%. These numbers stayed the same until 1 1/2 years ago. A few large subdivisions were built selling houses at low prices. The school went from 98% white and 2% on the free lunch program to 21% white and 67% on the free lunch program. The state scores went from 99% to 82%. 2 years ago my kids were required to read 80 books during the year in order to pass to the next level. Now the programs only require 50 books. It also appears that the actual state test were lowered to meet the new demographics. This means that the 82% is much closer to being 75%. I checked the entire state stats for schools and found that the grades are always lower when two factors are at play , the percentage of "African Americans" and the number of students using the free lunch program. The most interesting thing I noticed is that the carpool line is now lined up with Cadillac’s, Lexus's, Mercedes’...etc, the same people needing the state to pay for their child’s food. I guess those big car payments make it difficult to pay for the bare necessities. If you would like to now what the state stats are in your state you can find it at www.greatschools.net.

My city has started the trend of turning black and I have already noticed an increase in the crime rate. I don’t want to live in the ghetto so I will be moving. We are moving to a place were the schools are better and there just happens to be no “African Americans”. I would not hesitate to put my children in a 99% black public school if the grades were 99% but based on factual stats it is impossible.

An actual correlation of race and behavior is not racism. It's observation, better classified as realism.

If you based your decision solely on race, that would be a different story.

from Phil's website...
Rules for Writers
Verbs HAS to agree with their subjects.
Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.
It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat)
Also, always avoid annoying alliteration. Don't confuse assonance with alliteration.
Be more or less specific.
Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary.
Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies.
No sentence fragments.
Contractions aren't necessary and shouldn't be used.
Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
Do not be redundant; do not use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous.
One should NEVER generalize.
Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
Don't use no double negatives.
Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
One-word sentences? Eliminate.
Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
The passive voice is to be ignored.
Eliminate commas, that are, not necessary. Parenthetical words however should be enclosed in commas.
Never use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice.
Kill all exclamation points!!!
Use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them.
Understatement is always the absolute best way to put forth earth shaking ideas.
Use the apostrophe in it's proper place and omit it when its not needed.
Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."
If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times: Resist hyperbole; not one writer in a million can use it correctly.
Puns are for children, not groan readers.
Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.
Even IF a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
Who needs rhetorical questions?
Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement. And finally...
Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

Ewker - Some people would rather not look at statistics if it shows that a minority is negatively affecting productivity. This is one reason why blacks have a tougher time of things. They'd (as a race, and their "PC supporters) rather not look at reality.

All I need treebeard is one statistic to say that he drew his opinion based on statistics. He gave one, and I copied it for you above. No matter how many non-statistical decisions he made, he made at least one based on the statistical number of blacks, therefore the decision to not put kids in that school is justified as being a non-racist decision. If you can show (from his post) that the reason for making the decision was one of the other reasons, and not the one I mentioned, AND you can show that the statistics that were left out do not show a non-black element to the equation, then you might have a point. Until then, you're making the worst assumption about this guy based on a lack of evidence.

Hey, the tables could have turned where some backwards white trash people changed the statistics in the school. Race really isn't the issue, it just happens to be what class of people are that may be bringing down the area and learning ability in the school. In this case they happen to be black.
