Hat recommendation wanted
Last week before our hiking trip we had a rainy week and I perused the upscale gear store for an all weather hat. Saw one with goretex for $50.00. Been looking at my Campmor catalog and see some reasonable ones...anyone have any they'd partcularly recommend? Want something for all types of weather (not snow though) that offers quick drying. Thanks!-

Was at Campmor yesterday to pick up a duffle to put my pack into for the airlines. Also scored a Marmot Pre-Cip baseball cap for $14.95. Haven't tested it in rain yet, and maybe it'll prove a little clammy as a fair-weather cap. And it really matches a 3-layer g/t Marmot jacket I have, electric blue.

The Urban Sombrero is a classic.

I own a Seattle Sombrero. Last year in a surprise wet snow storm, it sure was nice to keep me warm and DRY. Great little piece of gear. But think about it. If it kept me warm in a winter snowstorm, just how cool will it be when it's about 95 out??? I got a second light weight broadbrimmed hat. That means 2 hats in my pack! Any one know of one hat that will keep me dry and cool and warm????

That's right!! I'm challenging all you gearheads to find a hat for all seasons and weather. I know you are up to the challenge.

Uh, maybe I already own THE HAT. I never tried the seatle Sombrero in warm weather. So to those that own one: How does it work in hot weather?

Gore Tex hats are hot, but still cooler than a hood. I have the All seasons cap from OR and only wear it in the winter. It's even too hot for me to walk in then, but OK for a slow pace or standing around. If it's really hot any hat will feel hot and your head will be dripping sweat. At that point I just get wet from the rain.

I wear the OR hat all the time on the trail. If'n I'm not wearin it, then it's a bandana to soak up the sweat. I haven't had too much of a prob with it. I like it so much though that I'm thinkin about trading for a hoodless jacket.

Columbia makes a knockoff of the Seattle Sombrero, it is a nice hat and about half the price. I think it is called the Omni-Tech Boonie Hat.

Bacpac, with a face like yours, I'd recommend a double-bagger full-coverage baclava.

I wear a pirate hat. Not only is it stylish, but it collects rain water for drinking. It's either that one or the beer hat modified to hold nalgene bottles full of, um, water. yea water.

I just hate hats. That said, I need to buy one. Since I won't wear it much it needs to be all the things utahhiker said plus light weight. It seems either they do not list the weight or I don't trust what they say. I guess I'll take my diet scale to a local shop.
