Does anyone watch baseball? I love baseball almost as much as hiking. Who are your favorite teams.... mine is the DBack's. Just curious.

RE: Baseball fans
The 43-12 Mariners, who are currently riding an 11 game winning streak!! Gooood times!

A-Rod is comin' to town again this week. The Rangers are only 23 games back with a 20-35 record. It should be a fun series!! Oh... How 'bout them Reds?!

Sorry for the gloating, but we're havin' fun so far this year in the PNW.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, how long can an 11 game winning streak last. Don't pick on Curt, he's doing us good. He's helped the DBack with the 9 game winning streak.

RE: Baseball fans
I was a huge baseball fan until about 8:30 last night. I had been sitting at All Star tryouts for 2 hours (drinking water) and went up to the bathroom only to discover that it was locked for the night. Tryouts lasted until 9:30 (on a school night!). I was grouchy and today don't feel like a baseball fan. I am sure that I will get over it. We have a game tonight at 6:30. :)

RE: Baseball fans
AZHiker....the 11 game winning streak has lasted 11 games. It lasts until they lose, which, this year, don't happen too often. How's the weather in the cellar, A-Rod?

My home team are the 1918 World Champion Red Sox.... only 17 more seasons to go until we can celebrate a full century without a World Series Victory. I guess the 1908 Champion Cubs are the one team that has us beat.

RE: Baseball fans
While I'm ranting.... Besides the curse of the Bambino, the Red Sox racist history has a lot to do with their drought. It definietely cost them the '86 World Series (when they played Burleson over Bob Watson). They were the last team in baseball to play a black man.

RE: Baseball fans
Thanks for explaining the 11 game streak, now I understand the 9 game streak, or the 5 game streak, or the 7 game streak. Does that also apply to losing streaks? Da.

It's a Monday morning and I'm already bored to tears with my job. I work with usually great people, but for the past couple of weeks they have really gotton on my last nerve.

Another long-suffering Red Sox follower - that's when I take the time to bother. Grew up with the O's when they were new to Balamer and couldn't buy a winning season

PedXing - whatever possessed you to move from "Live free or die" to Taxachusetts? Out here in the western part of MA we like to think of ourselves as Vermonters. Only time Boston knows we exist is on April 15.

RE: Baseball fans
Lifetime Fan! Grew up listening to the Twins and the Cardinals on the radio.... then spent two years in Michigan and loved the Tigers with Kirk Gibson while I was there. First major league game was in Milwaukee to see Hank Aaron and Eddie Matthews play for the Braves.... but I can't root for 'em in Atlanta! Because of friends in the great NW I like following the Giants and Seattle.... especially because Seattle is winning with a low payroll! And because of an aunt and uncle and cousins in Boulder, I follow the Rockies!

Mostly attend Triple-A games... Iowa Cubs in Des Moines... Omaha... Best values in baseball. Also enjoy going to KC to root against the Royals... unless they're playing the Yankees....

I am a huge Baseball Fan, (Cleveland Indians) my 14 game opening day streak was broken when I moved to Iowa (love the I-Cubs Steadman). But baseball by far is the best sport out there. Ya gotta love the history and strategy involved. It looks like the long suffering Indians, Red Sox, and Cubbies all have a shot at the World Series this year! That would probably signal the end of the world!

RE: Baseball fans
My son was the consummate fan. I started taking him to opening day at Fenway when he was 8. We suffered through the letdown after Fisk's homer, the ball between the legs. As a teenager, he spent many a night sleeping on the roof of Fenway after a game to get in free the next day. His idea of a fun week was to hop in a car with his friends and visit as many ballgames in as many cities as they could. Even after he grew up and moved out to Seattle, I would send him opening day tickets and he would fly home for the game. Got to be great friends with some of the Bosox players by hanging out around the dugout whenever they visited the Kingdome. He was ecstatic when my daughter married the brother of a Bosox pitcher. Sadly, he was killed on Rainier a year after that marriage. My wife and I continue the opening day tradition. We buy a pair of opening day tickets and go hang around Fenway. When we see a deserving pair of rabid fans who are looking for tickets (it's been couples, kids, college kids, fathers and sons), we tell them Mark's stories of Bosox adoration, give them the MF Memorial tickets, a program, and a bag of peanuts and wish them well. Mark always thought he was immortal mountain climbing, as he assured us he couldn't die until the Sox won the Series. As we are so accustomed to saying around here..."Maybe next year."

Well Steiny:

I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town
Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)

Actually, its a long story... but Cambridge is my home town.

I am a huge sports fan...however, I tend to follow teams a lot more when they are winning. I am pissed at the Sonics right now, so it's Mariners and Seahawks now baby!

Rick - I think you will find the Mariners payroll in the top third of baseball. Obviously not in the same leage as the Yankees, but chemistry seems to make up for superstars (at least for now). Can you imagine this pitching staff if Randy Johnson were still here!

Steiny, I checked back in on this thread to report that the Chesterfield Little League Orioles won 16-0 tonight. I read your post and had to say--sooo sorry about Mark. But is it really wonderful that he was so passionate about so many things--baseball included. You pay him great tribute with every bag of peanuts!

RE: Baseball fans
Well, I used to be a big fan until the strike.

The Tigers haven't given me a reason to go back.

One exception: I went to the last game at Tiger Stadium. Seeing Fidrych groom the mound again and Gibson sliding into right field and all the Tigers past was amazing. Tiger Stadium was as great a place to watch a game as ever was.

But that's the past.

BTW, the Cleveland Indians are annoying.

I think many Cincinnatians are looking forward to the Beagals season. I never thought I would see the day when the Reds would be this far gone. It seems that we have too many understitchers on the mound.

RE: Baseball fans
BTW - Old Tiger Stadium really sucked, a shoebox with a bunch of crack dealers outside. The only thing nice about it was when the Indians used to come to town and beat the hell out of the Tigers for the past 10 years. Now Tiger Stadium will be gone, and all the crack dealers moved to the new park, but the indians are still kicking the Tigers sorry asses. I guess some things don't change.

How about this Flyguy, Not to bad for a cry baby. Wouldn't you say so?

PHOENIX (AP) -- Curt Schilling pitched a six-hitter to become the major leagues'
first 10-game winner as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles
Dodgers 4-1 Wednesday night.

We all know that this guys sometimes just need to be moved around. Lousy one place - great the next. That's the game.

RE: Baseball fans
Didn't he whine because somebody bunted their way to first base (safely) when he had a no-hitter going through 7 innings? Like he expected the batter to not do "his all" to reach base. I hate professional whiners.
Did you hear about the 12 y/o who pitched a perfect game, striking out all 18 batters he faced!?! His Mom and Dad missed the game (the game of the century!)

Where was this kid from? Some of the best times I had with our son was at T-ball and LL (he's 20 now). I hope the parents had a real good reason for missing the game. I'm sure they must feel horrible. It would be interesting to track this kid and see if he goes on to a baseball career.

Schilling was an excellent pitcher in Philly as well, and he didn't cry about the bunt. The media played the whole thing up. Curt is actually one of the few "old school" ballplayers left. Here's my list, add your picks as well!

Mark Grace
John Kruk (retired)
Rex Hudler
Marquis Grissom
Tom Glavine
Dave Burba
Jim Thome
Ellis Burks

Not on the list:
