PB&J Sucks “For all that is good and holy, help me out ... (This applies to day hikes or an overnighter) - Give me an alternative for PB&J! I am so sick of eating them. I always have them for lunch on day hikes. PB&J, Trail Mix, Power Bars. Im sick of PB&J and Power Bars - love hiking, hate the food. Anyone have any suggestions on what to eats as a main staple for lunch other than PB&J?” 10:10:02 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “beef jerky, cheese sticks and crackers. the crakers like to get smashed but if you dont mind that its a great lunch on the go!” 10:14:06 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Cheese is great. If you put your crackers in a pringles can they won't get crushed. Also those little lunch size tuna with that cheese is great.” 10:30:22 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Ritz Crackers (wheat) Italian Dry Salami and Cheddar Cheese is what I had for lunch on my last trip. On a day hike ....splurge, take one of those little blue ice thingys and you could literally take anything you wanted !” 10:37:14 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Robert brought home wheat thins and cream cheese and smoked turkey and bananas for a day hike we're going to take on Thursday” 10:43:24 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “I don't really eat lunch on the trail. I just eat trail food on occasion. I make big breakfasts though.” 10:47:00 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “i would not eat pb&j on a multi day trip. blech!” 10:47:27 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “The oatmeal raisin bar recipe inside the top of a box of Quaker oats is good. You can doctor it up with apples, nuts, maple syrup or whatever. They keep for a few days if they're wrapped well. Try dehydrating tuna (in water, not oil). It rehydrates pretty well in mayo, which you can carry in little pouches you've swiped from convenience stores. Add some sprouts (which you can make on the trail), some dehydrated onion and a little hard cheese.” 11:14:05 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “This is news?” 11:19:28 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “To someone who, on their own, can't come up with an alternative to PB$J, it may well be news! :)” 11:41:36 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “If it's only a day hike, or overnighter, take cheese, sausage and crackers--put the crackers in a tuperware container. Add some fruit and you've got a decent lunch. If you don't do meat, you could take veggies and dip with a blue freezer pack to keep it cool. Also, we like humus on crackers.” 11:41:55 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “dems fightin words partner!!!! Bagel and cream cheese, a different nut butter, marshmellow spread, butter and honey, a rubber biscuit, and a wish sandwich.” 11:52:40 PM 6/05/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Bush leaves & tree bark. Try that with some cheese.” 12:07:51 AM 6/06/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “eat some bush!” 7:29:42 AM 6/06/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Dayhike? Take whatever you bloody well want to. What's the problem?” 7:56:18 AM 6/06/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “16 oz. porterhouse steak, side of garlic onion mashed potatoes and steamed green beans w/bottle of red wine, errrr, I mean cliff bars!” 8:59:42 AM 6/06/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Rather than making a sandwich, which has a tendency to get soggy during the hike, my wife makes tortilla wraps with chicken and lettuce and tomato. You can put anything you want into them, and they stay fresh.” 9:23:44 AM 6/06/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “How well did you like PB & J after you were out of high school? Tried Pop Tarts for lunch lately? They're simple too. Big sugar rush. No work required. Simple to pack and unwrap. Open a can of Spam. Dry a can of Spam. Dry a can of deviled ham. Pry a chunk out of your hand. Eat some granulated sand. Do Hummus on your watchband. Dehydrate chopped underwear in your time span. See Mr. Spock for lunch, he is so grand.” 11:18:00 PM 6/07/01 RE: PB&J Sucks “Hummus on pita bread. Last trip I had sun-dried tomato flavored pita, I took a small amount of lemon juice & oil to add to the hummus...YUMMM. Also no mess, pack the hummus in a zip-loc, add the water to the bag, knead to mix then just haul out thye empty zip-loc.” 11:34:04 PM 6/07/01 “Boiled eggs.” 11:18:24 PM 10/23/03
