What a guy!
The Seattle P-I has a great article on Ed Viesturs today as he sets out to climb the twelfth of the world's fourteen 8,000 meter peaks--all without supplemental oxygen.

RE: Viesturs
Saw Ed at the Seattle Mountaineers club last June. His slide show was awesome! He's also a great, level headed guy.

He doesn't take any unneccessary chances (OK, unneccessary considering he climbs 8,000 meter peaks without supplemental oxygen). His rule that "summiting is optional, going home is mandatory" is something a lot of these other high profile climbers seem to lack.

When I saw him last year, it was near the due date for his second kid. He told a packed auditorium that if his beeper goes off, he's outta there. Show's over, but he was gonna be there for his kid's birth!

RE: Viesturs
bc_trailguy - Whatcha mean? I bet Ed never even comes close to beatin' Messner's hash-smokin'/summit-sittin' record. Let alone come close to approaching his wealth of accumulated evidence on the search for the elusive Sasquatch. Hey man, who cares about climbin' mountains when ya live in a freakin' castle?! Right?!

Seriously though, I heard that Messner was seen at K2 basecamp last year. He saw all the people and freaked out. The Himalayas will never be the same.
