Really expensive socks
Stopped by the local outdoor store to pick up a pair of smartwools and ended up ordering the Mountain Smith Ghost pack. It's so different than anything I've used I just had to try it. 3700 ci and less than 3 lbs.

While packing for 4 days in the woods starting tomorrow, I began wondering what little item do you find that you always have to have with you and use often but cost little?

Mine is a "bucket" that I got from Campmor several years ago, cost 9 bucks, weighs about 2 oz and is always used daily. Couldn't go without it now! LOL

I like to bring one of those 2 or 3 gallon cheap water bags with a shower attachment for washing up and to enable me to avoid having to make repeated trips to the creek. Well worth the extra 4 ounces of weight. It gives you more freedom to camp where you want. I just fill the bag and hike to the top of a mountain with a nice view and not have to worry about my water source.

RE: Really expensive socks
LOL Yes, those socks cost you BIG! ;o) Every trip I make, I seem to *need* some new gear. When I went to TN for a TT trip, I spent as much in new gear as I did on my plane ticket. I know, I know, but I NEEDED it. :o)

Hey guys! Up late I see.

I'm on a gear binge. Just got some new boots at Cabela's and some Gore-Tex socks. How do they work? Oh, and I also got some lovely Hawaiian type shirts for a little Keweenaw trip. I'll be hiking in style.

You don't know expensive until you go bike shopping. I went to test ride a bike and walked out with a $180 pair of shoes.

If it's not one thing it's another--you got toilet paper on your shoe or you empty your pockets in the gear store.

Hey,

There is a place in Tawas, Michigan called Norman's. Big outlet type store.I bought two pair of wool/wicking socks for two bucks a pair. Real leather gloves for two bucks as well. If anyone is in the area, stop in there. Well worth the stop!

Pooh!! The Ghost came in today and try as we would, the thing just doesn't fit me correctly. I was so disappointed! Back to the drawing board.

My cool, cheap thing is a little pouch (Jansport I think) that attaches to the shoulder straps...it holds all the little stuff like, sun screen, lip balm, handkerchief, energy bars, compass, stuff like that. Must have cost about $10.00

Really sorry about the Ghost, I know how much you wanted it to work.

Have fun on your 4 day!
