RE: Freeze dried shrimp
My experiences with Alpine Aire have been bad. I still have some of their crap. I am saving it for the Nuclear Holocaust. Bleech!

I was thinking the same thoughts bacpac but I hesitated to spoil dinner. Now I'll tell that I took some of their shrimp one time and we had to bury it and eat peanut butter crackers for dinner.

RE: Freeze dried shrimp
I've dehydrated the little frozen cocktail shrimp from the grocery. They're pre-cooked, worked nicely.

RE: Freeze dried shrimp
I was taking the shrimp - cutting them down the center and drying them. Add them to my own mixes. But they take some time to re-hydrate.
I'll just bag them septerately and add water at lunch.
I usually dont eat the dehydrated stuff. Just the salsa, and dried chicken.
Mountian house - couldn't find just shrimp with them.

Have you tried Asian markets? Dried shrimp, shiitake, tree fungus, etc. Lots of tasty stuff, but they must be well re-hydrated before they're used. I add all the above to Asian ramen (supermarket ramen just turns to mush) with soy sauce, ginger, vinegar and crushed chili pepper. A real treat after a couple days on the trail.

Sounds good gremlin, except the tree fungus. That's what oyster mushrooms look like to me.

RE: Freeze dried shrimp
Tree fungus, also called tree ear mushrooms are dried black mushrooms that are used in
Sze-Tchouan cooking. Some people - medical people - believe they are a factor in the incredibally low heart disease rates in that province of China. North Americans have made 'prononciomenti' about food from Japan, Crete and God knows where - also about chronic fasting in the Hunza region of Afghanistan/Pakistan. Personnally, I think it's low stress, slow motion, constant physical exercise in the out of doors, along with moderate wine and beer consumption (interchangeable) - but, hey, that's just me. They are delicious, By the way. Happy trails and don't forget to re-hydrate well first.
