Leaving for Dinkey Lakes Wilderness in 1 hour “Finally! I can get away! I'm headed up for a couple of nights, and some good fishing. Hopefully this will get me used to carring a pack for my 8 day 85+ mile hike starting Fathersday.” 3:05:20 PM 6/11/01 RE: Leaving for Dinkey Lakes Wilderness in 1 hour “Good luck! Have clear, breezy weather and catch fish this biiiggggg!” 4:11:16 PM 6/11/01 RE: Leaving for Dinkey Lakes Wilderness in 1 hour “OK!..... but we want a detailed report when you return.” 7:12:34 PM 6/11/01 RE: Leaving for Dinkey Lakes Wilderness in 1 hour “I'm back, sorry I don't have a detaled report, but there will be one eventually. I have to say that I had one of the most perfect Backpacking trips ever. The hike in was as beautiful as ever, and the bugs left me alone, for the most part. I hiked 6 to 7 miles in about 2&1/2 hours. My destination was Rock Lake. Absolutly BEAUTIFUL!!! I saw 3 groups headed out as I was headed in. There were also only 3 cars in the parking lot. That made me the only dude in the entire wilderness area. I heard a lot of horror stories about the skeeters at some of the lower lakes, so I hoped Rock Lk at it's 9,700 ft elevation, would be better. It was! I was treated to an magical sunset soon after I arrived. And the Lake was full of pan sized to 10 inch Golden Trout. PARADISE!!!!!!!! I caught about 15 trout while I was camped there. The best part was being able to see all those fish from my pearch about 10ft above the lake. I released all but two fish that I ate. I hope to post some pictures of the hike, but it probably won't happen until I get back from my Yosemite Trek. Oh, on the way home I took a side Jeep Trail to an old abandoned Garnet mine. Spookey! but real cool. I used my Tikka and brought back some real nice Garnet Minerals. Some maybe gem quality” 12:15:35 PM 6/14/01
