My family came home a little late from a picnic or something ? after dark. My sister and I had to go out back to feed our horses. As we stepped out the back door, a milky-white human shape was running across the backyard. I shined the flashlight on it and nothing was there! When I turned the flashlight off, it started running again from the same spot. Again I tried the flashlight and again nothing was there! When I turned it off, it ran from that spot and back into the field. My sister and I looked at each other. We?d both seen the same thing. When we went back inside and told our parents, they wouldn?t believe us ? they thought we were pulling a prank. I have no idea what it was. Several years later, a friend of mine was taking a shortcut to my house at night cutting through that field and was chased most of the way to my house by the same thing. He was freaked!” 1:36:42 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “...and I thought this thread was telling stories about the former JimD, now known as Ghost.” 2:04:21 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “no, those stories are TOOOOOOO scary!!” 2:25:59 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “A few weeks ago, I got a phone call from a friend of ours who a few years back moved from Seattle to a small town about a hundred miles south of here. They bought a huge 90 year old Victorian house and began remodeling it. They found out a short time later that the pervious owner had killed herself in it. Now, Rick and Anna and their two daughters were agnostic--completely ambivalent towards religion. They had no feelings one way of another about anything spiritual. In the past few months, though, things have changed. One of the girls (age 11) asked Anna why 'that woman' kept sitting on the edge of her bed at night looking at her. The other daughter (age 13) said she had been awakened several times by a woman who was rubbing her leg, and then would disappear. After a few more appearances of 'the lady', they told the girls that maybe it was Uncle Blair (Rick's brother who had recently passed away) visiting them. The girls said, "no, Uncle Blair has a silvery, shimmery look, not like this lady." A few days later, Rick was getting up for work when he saw the woman in the doorway of the bedroom. As he described it, she was there as plain as could be--he could describe her down to her shoes--then gone, and he never blinked. She didn't disappear in a puff of smoke or anything of the sort, she was just gone. They've had a few other weird instances, such as the dog going crazy (barking like crazy with it's fur standing up on it's back) for no apparent reason and the television turning itself on and off. So far, at least, it?s all been pretty mild stuff like that, but who knows...?” 2:48:29 PM 6/12/01 i see dead people “null” 3:12:59 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I see stupid people... ...they're everywhere... they walk around like eveyone else... they don't even know that they are dumb...” 3:51:30 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “The history of the stupid people is as long and rich as any race or culture that exists on earth. Their influence can be found in nearly every ancient and modern civilization. Yet, unlike many peoples that have adapted and evolved in response to external and internal influences over the centuries, the stupid people have largely remained true to their roots. As a result of passing on their beliefs and practices over the centuries, their behavior over time has been remarkably consistent. It is this consistency that makes them an exciting and fascinating group to study. And unlike many other groups, you don?t have to go very far to find a stupid person. Who are the stupid people? The relationship between the stupid people and morons, idiots, and fools are often misunderstood. Contrary to widespread belief, the stupid people are considered, and consider themselves, a separate people from the morons, idiots, and fools. Historically, the stupid people have largely dominated over and out numbered all three other groups combined. The misconception that the four groups are related probably stems from the fact that morons and idiots have imitated many rituals and behaviors practiced by the stupid people. However, stupid people are a distinct group. [Although recent evidence (Solomon, Schuster, et. al?1995) suggests that at one time, probably early in the first millennium, stupid people and idiots lived together and interbred in parts of Southern and Western Europe. Hence the half-breed term ? "stupid idiot"] What largely separates the stupid people from the others groups is their social interaction. Unlike fools, idiots, and morons, stupid people are highly social creatures that tend to validate each other?s views and beliefs. This can lead to what scholars call a "group delusion." It is believed that these delusions are the glue that has bound stupid people everywhere together over the centuries. INTERACTING WITH STUPID PEOPLE Part of the problem in identifying a stupid individual is that they look and act much like anyone else until they do or say something decidedly stupid. It is almost impossible to pick out a stupid person from a crowd. Ironically, most stupid people don?t think of themselves as stupid but rather as intelligent individuals. This makes it very difficult to reason with a stupid person. Stupid acts can take many forms and vary in degree, but when an act occurs it is unmistakable. The majority of the times a stupid act turns out to be nothing more than an inconvenience to the innocent bystander. These incidents are played out on city streets and in supermarkets daily. However, there are times when these acts can get out of hand and be devastating. It is always wise to be on alert and prepared. At times you may find yourself in close proximity to a stupid individual in the midst of a stupid spell. It is good advice not to approach such a stupid person during an incident unless accompanied by a trained professional. If you find that you have no choice, then speak slowly and use small, soothing words. Never try to outwit a stupid person since they will only interpret that as a hostile and aggressive act. Always let the stupid person think they are superior. And under no circumstances let your face or hands near a stupid person?s mouth. Keep in mind at all times, that although a stupid person may seem intelligent and civilized, they are not. It is a survival disguise developed over the centuries. It is also unwise to try to make a pet out of a stupid person. Although easy to housetrain, they almost always turn on their masters. They are intrinsically a wild people who have been force to adapt, at least on the surface, to the ways of modern civilization. But always keep in mind that below the surface you still have a stupid individual.” 4:25:46 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Maybe I really should have posted this on one of the political threads.” 4:28:44 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Violin, you have WAY too much free time.” 4:29:50 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “You killed your own thread!” 4:44:00 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Sorry. ADD” 4:46:00 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Oh man, I loved it. And I read every line. BTW Violin, what were your sources? Radagast and I were chased by a black helicopter in Ocala National Forest. They shined a very bright light on us and we thought they were going to take us back to their evil government lair, but rad mooned 'em and they took off. Between rad's shlong and butt cheeks, they probably thought we had a one eyed elephant to protect us.” 4:54:30 PM 6/12/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Do we have any ???”9:47:08 AM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “” 9:53:20 AM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “There was a special on TV about the Amityville story that the movie "Amityville Horror" was based on in Long Island. Sometimes watching evil depicted on TV is too close for me. I had chills and was uneasy for days after that. But I loved "Sixth Sense". Maybe not all ghosts are evil. I have no ghost stories of my own but a lot of people feel that they have seen dead loved ones.” 10:00:56 AM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Try this book: Campfire Stories ...things that go bump in the night. by William Forgey M.D. Globe Pequot Press, Guilford, CT. ISBN 0-934802-23-8 a backpack sized book full of campfire-tested stories. BTW -- the Amityville Horror was recently disclosed as an elaborate hoax (and a successful hoax). The principals involved had book and movie rights in mind when they designed the scheme.” 2:34:43 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “My great grandma died in 80'. She made me a quilt that I have to this day, and gave it to me a few Christmases before she died. A few weeks after she passed, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw her at the foot of my bed, smiling and gently stroking the quilt she gave me (which was on my bed at the time). I was startled and scared. I put my head under the pillow ofr a bit, and when I raised my head, she was still there, smiling. I shoved my head under the pillow for about ten minutes, frozen with fear, and when I came up again, she was gone. I didn't scream or say anything because I didn't want to upset my mom (they were close). The next day, we went to church. Toward the end of mass, when people were recieving communion (Catholic), my mom got really upset and started crying. My dad and brothers went out to the car with her, she was sobbing the whole way. She didn't say anything for about ten minutes as we sat in the car. The other people started coming out of church because the service was over, and this old couple passed us in this 60's looking powder blue car. My mom really lost it. When we finally got home, I overheard her telling my pops that she had a dream the night before that my Grandma came down from heaven to visit. She was dropped off by the old people in a old powder blue car, the same people she saw in church and the same car. In my mom's dream, grandma visited all of us in our rooms, and then visited with my mom, then the old people came back and picked her up. The freaky thing is, I saw my grandma the night my mom had her dream, and we never saw those old people at church again, and had never seen them before (mom was active in the church). I did'nt tell mom about my experiance until years later becuase I didn't want to upset her. When I told her, we were both convinced grandma came down a visited. It still freaks me out to this day.” 2:47:59 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Buddha - the hair on my arms won't lie flat!” 2:52:50 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “niether will mine, every time I think about it I get freaked!” 2:53:54 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “man, lay off the shrooms!” 2:56:20 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Great story Buddha Bear.....” 3:13:38 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Violin- too funny! Best laugh I've had all day. Buddha Bear- I got chills all over reading that story.” 3:46:54 PM 6/13/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Several years ago I woke up one night and turned my head toward the bathroom door. In the doorframe I saw a man and woman standing there, smiling at me. Vanished after several seconds. They weren't solid, but were like if you looked at a light bulb up close and then closed your eyes, you'd see a "negative" image of the bulb. Was like that.” 12:22:10 AM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Did the man and woman look familiar, was it in your home Steve?” 5:09:34 AM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Well, I looked up and saw this white trash sack in my truck, all covered in something, I didn`t know what. I was wondering why it was there and who could have put it there. About that time I noticed the windshield of my Toyota was broken and then I knew I`d had a wreck and the white trash sack was my air bag. I was upset that I`d wrecked my truck and haddn`t noticed the pain I was in. Oh, I knew I was hurting, but I`ve been in some bad scrapes before and just didn`t know the extent of my problems. I had the peace of mind to turn off the key switch and the lights of the truck because I wasn`t sure if it was gas or oil all over everything and I didn`t want it to catch fire. I had a flashlight under the driver seat and while I was looking for that, I found my left ankle under there first. It was in real bad shape and the bone was sticking out of the side of my pants leg. I moved it out of the way and then found my right ankle under there too. It too was broken, but didn`t seem to be in as bad of a shape as the left one. I got it out of the way and found the light and turned it on and got my first good look at things. I was big time messed up and the pain was real and I started feeling it not long after I started looking for the light. I could tell something in my hips was broken, I could feel it grind when I shifted my weight around any. I could tell most of my ribs were broken and knew my lungs were filling up with fluid, I tried not to think what, but I hunt and knew deep down what it was. I couldn`t see much out of my left eye and my head was killing me. I figured my neck might be broken because I couldn`t move my head much and when I did the pain was unreal. My truck was in between two big trees and I couldn`t get either door to open up and my only other way out was to break out the front window and crawl back up to the road and try to get help. Well, with my lungs doing what they were and my neck maybe being broken I knew I couldn`t do that and I just lost it. I wasn`t crying for the pain, or for how scared I was, but for the fact that I didn`t want to be found by my sons like this, sometime the next day. The next thing I know there`s a glow to my left, like the dash lights had come on, but they haddn`t. I look up and see my dad`s face pressed down to mine and he tells me to hush, it`ll be alright. He says it again and as I try to speak to him he just fades away and the light goes out and I`m alone again. I`ve never told anyone else this except my family and friends and I don`t know what they thought of it, I don`t care. To me it happened and it was as real as anything I know. My dad had been dead a little over a year when I had that wreck, but he was there for me when I needed him.” 6:09:11 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Was in my home, don't know who they were. Not real people, definitely. Not solid.” 6:18:46 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Oooohhh, Big Foot, and I thought I was creaky. I'm glad you survived, and healed up enough to hike again. That must have been a painful round of physical therapy. It was nice that your dad could visit you when you needed him. My grandmother insisted that my grandfather visited her when she was very sick with a flu, at home alone. I was upset that she didn't call me to come stay with her, but she claimed she had my grandfather, who had been gone for several years.” 6:20:42 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Thanks LyndyS, but I`m not yet over it, or able to backpack. I can walk again now and that`s a lot more than they thought I`d ever do. It looks like I`m reduced to car camping for a bit longer.lol” 6:31:29 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “You know, car camping isn't that bad, you just have to find the good places, which is hard but possible. Some people on this site have an attitude about it, but it's not the car camping, it's the quality of SOME of the people car camping. You have that issue in a lot of activities.” 7:28:00 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I used to work up at a movie theater in Atlanta. It's probably the oldest theater in the city. A lot of history there. Anyway, the manager there used to drive a hearse, like the one in Harold and Maude -- an old '60s beastly Cadillac. He used to tell us a story about how he and some buddies were out flying around in the hearse one night. They'd been partying and were quite the hellions. There was time when Atlanta was still surrounded by farmlands. So they used to take this hearse off into corn fields and just punch the gas. All you could see were rows of corn bending down in front of the hood of the herse and nothing but green and black on all sides. They weren't worried about hitting anything because it just stretched on for miles in all directions. So this one night, they're doing this, having a good old time and just flying around in some corn field, rows of stalks just bending forward beneath the forward motion of the hearse and then, all of the sudden, there's a skeleton standing in front of the herse. Just like one of the ones you see in anatomy class. The manager slams on the brakes but not before the skeleton bends over with the corn stalks and disappears from view. Well, my manager starts screaming at the guys in the car, "Did you see that? Did you see that?" What is it, ask his buddies. "A skeleton," he tells them and they errupt in laughter. He hops out of the car, crouches down, looks underneath. Nothing. He looks back down the path of mowed over stalks in the glow of the tail lights. Nothing. He hops back in the car to gales of ribbing and jest. He starts to say, "You assho..," and there, in the rear view mirror, seated between his two friends in the back seat is the skeleton. Anyway, I always thought whatever when he told the story. Now I don't know if that event and this event are related, but one night up at the theater, I was working behind the concession stand. My manager was across from me, standing against a wall facing the stand. We're just chatting with another friend who also is working concession. As we're yapping it up, this really weird thing happened. Proceeding up the walkway, as if it were a customer, comes this white, opaque mass, floating through the air at about waist level. It was cottony and wispy, but contained in a very firm cloud-like ball about the size two basketballs stuck together. I mean, this thing was the stereotypical vision of what an apparition should look like. There was no wind to push it but it kept moving at the exact same pace, maybe slow walking speed. No one moved. No one said anything. We all just watched this thing float by. I've never had anything like that happen to me since.” 8:09:31 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Holy Toledo Big Foot, you are lucky to be alive!” 8:47:50 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I live in a 120 year old house. IN the fall i was taking a bath when a looked up and saw this women. she was dressed in old victorian clothes and was staring out me. I looked away and then she dissapeared. That is the first time I saw her, but I hear her more often. she calls my name. My mom has heard her too. I have no idea why she calls my name. But it freaks me out. I heard her tonight.” 10:08:06 PM 6/14/01 RE: Ghost Stories “uhhhh That was me watching you take a bath. Its a b!tch getting all dressed up in that Victorian outfit . . .and hot in the summer too!” 9:45:15 AM 6/15/01 RE: Ghost Stories “LyndyS, you`re right, there`s nothing wrong with car camping and where I live there are many beautiful places to go where you can still be almost by yourself. Buddha Bear, yes,...I`m mighty lucky to be alive and most days I`m thankful for another chance.” 9:56:00 AM 6/15/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Oh lee that completly explains it! Now Im freaked out in a whole new way :)” 12:06:57 PM 6/15/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Jeez, I'd be freaked out adventuregirl! How do you sleep at night?” 1:25:57 PM 6/15/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I have lived here my whole life. Its not like they are always haunting me. just somtimes. Every once in a while I get really scared and i start singing "God is bigger thatn the boogie man, hes bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV! Oh God is bigger than the boogie man and hes watching out for you and me! And then i remeber that I dont need to be scared :)” 12:32:55 AM 6/16/01 NOTE: THIS IS A HIGH-RISK SPIRITUAL DEVICE “My parents had a music box in their first apartment which started playing in the middle of the night. My father went to the living room and closed the lid. One hour later it was open and playing again. There have been no occurrences in the 50 years since. It looks exactly like this one!” 11:16:27 AM 8/28/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Buddha, I think I will start calling you Booooodha now. That's chilling.” 11:42:47 AM 8/28/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I`ve seen my share of them, or maybe even more than most I can close my eyes and see her, more a vision than a ghost I can almost touch her at times, but she slips out of my fist so real she seems to me and she becomes a part of the mist life giving off love and then dying, you`d have to be there one minute she`s with me and the next she`s off in thin air and then maybe it`s when I get to drinking and it`s that last toast maybe it`s when I`m not myself that I have a visit from a ghost” 12:16:40 PM 8/28/01 RE: Ghost Stories “once, he joined ski and some of us others in roan highlands. what a nice trip. then, he went to cumberland island with u.... oh, you meant ghosts that TALK? boo! LOL!!!!” 12:23:40 PM 8/28/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I love ghost stories. I had the ghost of a small child (boy, I think) that used to hang out in my bedroom when I shared a house w/ a friend. The kid would turn on/off the light in the bathroom in the middle of the night. Sometimes, it felt like he/she was jumping on the bed. On a couple of occasions, he/she would hold my feet down in the morning and wake me up. I would lie there, wide awak, and not be able to move my legs. It always seemed playful to me so I never felt scared. I had a strange experience when I was about 9 or 10. I had a couple friends over. We were playing in my bedroom. My brother was home w/ us since my parents were gone for the afternoon. They were due home so we started cleaning up the room. Afterwards, we went downstairs and had some Kool Aid. When we returned to my room, it was a mess again. My chairs to my table/chair set were upside down and the toys were all over. I still don't know what happened, but it freaked me out...Still does!” 12:35:09 PM 8/28/01 RE: Ghost Stories “We used to have a house with a full size, partially finished basement. If you stood in a certain spot in the basement, you could hear running footsteps accross the floor above you. If you stood there long enough, a loud banging from all around the basement would start and get so loud that you could feel the vibration in your chest. Take a half a step in any direction and total silence. We walked around this spot whenever we were in the basement. When we put the house up for sale, the real estate agent wanted a tour. We showed him the basement last. He thought it very strange that the dog who had followed him throughout the rest of the house had stopped at the top stair. We told him she had never gone past that step, had never been in the basement. Then he stepped in the spot. He actually ducked and dodged sideways. We explained it to him. As he was running up the stairs, he said "We won't tell anyone about this, right?"” 9:18:19 PM 8/30/01 RE: Ghost Stories “Well, this didn`t ever happen and none of this is true but, that`s not going to stop me from tellin` it to you I only remember parts of it and some not so well but that don`t matter much, what I do I`ll tell seems there came to the woods one day these shadows without faces and they hid in amoungst the dark overhanging trees of all places tucked back in against the trees, lurking there just out of seight were these shadows without faces, that danced just out of the light it didn`t matter if it was day or night, they would often be seen sometimes, blue, or black as ink, but they could also be dark green and it seems if you`d set there a bit they would sneak up on you you`d never hear them coming up on ya, like other things tended to now they spread mighty fast and have turned up in strange places not nailed to those woods are those shadows without any faces I ran into one of `em one day while drinking shine from a cup better watch those shadows, you never know where they`ll turn up now, none of this ever happened and not a word of this is true it`s just real late at night and I had nothing else better to do” 2:57:51 AM 8/31/01 RE: Ghost Stories “I thought I would help everyone else not sleep tonight too.” 12:23:41 AM 10/17/01 RE: Ghost Stories “GREAT, thanks! Well most anything else!” 1:54:00 AM 10/17/01 10:54:29 AM 7/31/02 “I won't do it...” 11:01:42 AM 7/31/02 11:04:03 AM 7/31/02
