I decided to throw in the pop-up ad to raise my ad revenue a bit. Recently, ad rates have bottomed out, so I am having to look at other ways to generate some revenue. Pop-up ads tend to pay pretty well, but are extremely annoying. So it is a little give and take.

Right now I am trying to generate some revenue so I can buy a dedicated server for thebackpacker.com. Unfortunately, the current revenue the site makes is not enough to cover the costs.

So I am open to any ideas.”

All the advertising is handled by two outside companies. I don't have the time or connections to sell ads myself. These outside companies sell for hundreds of sites at a time, so no one site gets much personal attention. I wish it could be better, but beggars can't be choosers.”

“I am really open to any suggestions about ways to raise money. We just have to keep in mind that, like a few other people on this site, I still have a full-time job that I attend everyday. So time is a major factor for me. I can't travel during the day and make sales calls or travel across the country to meet with manufacturers. We need to keep things simple.”
