Canoe trip in Arkansas “Thinking of floating the White or Buffalo River in Arkansas the weekend before the 4th of July. Anyone know anything about the area...river levels, must-see section, etc.? Any info appreciated! Thanks!!1” 10:06:04 AM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “All the river/creek levels in S. Missouri and N. Arkansas are very low. With the White, it also depends and how much is released from Bull Shoals Lake. I'll be on the Buffalo River July 11th.” 4:12:01 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “Thanks for the info, TheFlip! By the way, my hubby is into fishing and looks like you're a serious angler soooo...I'm assuming the fishing is good as well. Thanks again! Have a great trip on the Buffalo!” 4:16:40 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “Why is there a utahiker and a UTAHIKER?” 4:58:29 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “LyndyS (formerly young&creaky)- don't get excited! It's just that sometimes I type in all caps and sometimes not. Also, depends on what computer I'm on - at work I try to delete all the files that I view so I have to retype each time. Thanks for being so sharp to pick that up! Have a good day!” 5:33:36 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “utahiker, The Buffalo is a wonderful river to paddle or push/pull depending on the water level. I have paddled it several times and it is great. This time of the year plan on the east half. The river runs west to east and the west half is only floatable in the spring pushing up to about now depending on the levels. But the west half can usually be floated through july and into aug. A good trip is from Rush to the White river, it's around 23-24 miles without a road/bridge/house ect. It makes for a good two night trip. For that area of the river I use Wild Bill's Outfitters, check out national buffalo river web page for links to outfitters, water levels and general info. Have any questions let me know at tharrell@yahoo.com” 6:46:24 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “The Buffalo River is a free flowing stream and is OK for Smallmouth Bass. River levels on the lower Buffalo are usually fine in July. The lower Buffalo does not have a very high flow rate. The White River flows out of the bottom of Bull Shoals Lake and is extremely cold. This river is Trout water. The World record Brown Trout was caught on the White. The water flow varies, and will be adequate. Bass or Trout fishing should be a consideration in your plans. There should be plenty of links on any search engine.” 8:43:20 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “Here is the National Park Service website for the Buffalo National River. http://www.nps.gov/buff/frames37.htm Also, the Buffalo River Trail is a great 3 day backpacking trip, although I would suggest any season other than summer to hike it.” 10:13:52 PM 6/14/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “Wow! Thanks for all the info guys! Since the east section is closer to MO anyway, that's probably where we'd be. My spouse loves trout fishing. When we canoe, he is the only one of our group to get sunburned on the back of his legs from standing up and fishing so much! Thanks again and will let you know how things turn out! We nixed the hiking there 'cause we're still recoving from the chiggers and ticks on our hike 3 weeks ago.” 9:19:39 AM 6/15/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “The Buffalo river is great, lots of fish, and I agree with stalker, get with WildBill out fitter and he will ferry your vehicle to the campground on the White for $35.00. Lots of gravel bars to camp on. Beware of exploding rocks when you build campfires.” 12:26:23 PM 6/15/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “Check out www.buffaloriver.com/ , it has a spot you can click on the check current water levels, I was shocked it is up enough right now for a pretty good float. We had a pretty good rain reciently. The western half is by far the coolest, and wildest part to float but the eastern half usually has enough water to float later in the summer. Have fun.” 4:48:50 PM 6/15/01 RE: Canoe trip in Arkansas “Oh yea, if you stay at Buffalo Point do the Indian Rock House trail, it's short and has a cool cave at the end of it.” 4:50:19 PM 6/15/01 “Two feet of rain expected in places as Rita stalls over Arkansas.” 9:12:06 PM 9/23/05 “It is Bush's fault.” 7:55:59 AM 9/24/05
