I took my 4-year old daughter hiking at the local nature preserve. We worked on reading a map. She got to make all the decisions at trail intersections. We got home just fine :)Being a dad is really cool.

what's google? ;) jk, you've got your hands full...it's a back yard game, similar to horse shoes...you have a "ladder" with 3 rungs...the bottom is 1 point, middle, 2, and the top is 3...you try to throw two balls attached to each other by a string so that they land on one of the ladders

Wow, I haven't seen that game since I was a kid. Make sure no one's standing behind it when you throw the balls though. They can wrap around a person's neck. ;P

My 6 year old is really timid around water. Two weeks ago she would barely walk around the shallow end. A friend has come over a few times and each time Emma has gained confidence from seeing another girl her age doing things in the water. Last week I counted 5 new things she'd do to include swimming from side to side in the deep end and jumping off the board in a swim vest. That same girl was over yesterday. When I got home from work Emma tells me she has another Father's Day gift for me. I had an inkling what it was. We go down to the pool and she jumps off the board without the vest. We were so excited:

I spent Sunday hiking up and over a mountain and then back down through lots of mud to the Middle Fork of the Cranberry River.

After crossing we tramped up a couple more miles where we made our third night's camp of a great long weekend.

well what is the correct name, because here in NY, if you go into a store and ask for Bull Nuts, there is a good chance they will call the police on us.

I figgered I'd just do away with any hint of annonymity and go with my real name. I use the same name on mountainproject.com.

But pretty much everybody on that site uses their real name.
