Another "chicken wings" bear attack

A teenager was injured Sunday when he was attacked by a bear while camping in the Carson National Forest, the state Game and Fish Dept. reported.

Parker Goodyear, 15, of El Rito was one of eight campers attacked while sleeping in sleeping bags, Game and Fish supervisor Lief Rahm said.

The bear was chased off after another camper fired several shotgun rounds into the air.

The campers were sleeping near the fire pit in which they had cooked dinner and probably still smelled like the chicken and sausage they had cooked, Game and Fish officers said.

"I imagine the odor had permeated their clothes," Ahlm said.

Goodyear had done the cooking, he said.

Goodyear required 18 stapes to close several bite wounds, Game and Fish said.”
