RE: Happy Solstice!
The ribs need Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. The corn on the cob needs spicy lime butter. Margaritas, too.

RE: Happy Solstice!
The ONLY reason I like the summer solstice is because this marks the day the sun starts retreating. BRING ON FALL!!!

RE: Happy Solstice!
You can buy the JD BBQ sauce in the grocery. Just marinade the ribs in it for a couple of hrs. Spicy lime butter is simple: red pepper flakes or chili powder, a little fresh squeezed lime juice, and real butter. Mix it together and spread it on the cob.

RE: Happy Solstice!
Newgirl down here in the Deep South it's just the opposite. We have at most only 3 months of mild "winter" and about 6 months of extreme suffocating heat and humidity. Which means no hiking this time of year unless I go WAY FAR away.

We don't hike in the summer down here, period. Unless you're a goddam fool. So this day marks the eventual return of the hiking season in a few months. COME ON OCTOBER!

Summer in Northern Nevada is great!! Never to hot to hike, plenty cool at nite. The longer the day the longer the sunset. Gotta love it.

RE: Happy Solstice!
Anyone watch today's live coverage of the solar eclipse from Africa? Outstanding corona shots.

Corona, shots? Must be summer! Where's my lime?

Going to a Juhannas (Midsummer) festivity Saturday night in a nearby Finnish community. Hope they have a really big kokko (bonfire).

RE: Happy Solstice!
Some clients of mine took off on a 2 week vacation to Africa, specifically to see and experience the solstice, and the eclipse there. Due back next week, I can't wait to hear about it! Oh yeah... should be a little business come out of it too - they're hikers and backpackers!

SOLSTICE BELLS
I had this cranked the other day (and today fo that matter

From Jethro Tull's "Songs from the Wood"

Solstice Bells

Now is the solstice of the year. Winter is the glad song that you hear.
Seven maids move in seven time. Have the lads up ready in the line.
Ring out these bells. Ring out, ring Solstice Bells.
Ring, Solstice Bells.

Join together 'neath the Mistle-toe. By the Holly oak where-on it grows.
Seven Druids dance in seven time. Sing the song the Bells call loudly
chime.
Ring out these bells. Ring out, ring Solstice Bells.
Ring, Solstice Bells.

Ring out. Ring out the Solstice Bells.
Ring out. Ring out the Solstice Bells.

Praise be to the distant sister Sun. Joyful as the silver planets run.
Seven maids move in seven time. Sing the song the Bells call loudly chime.
Ring out those bells. Ring out, ring Solstice Bells.
Ring, Solstice Bells.

Ring out!
Ring out!
Ring out!
Ring out!
