Why Does Bacpac Rag?

“I don't post during working hours. I post before, at lunch and after. I have posted during working hours on occasions, but infrequently and I don't spend all day on the internet. I certainly don't sit in my office whining for people to entertain me. You do.

I just find it incomprehensible that a person would sit and steal company time all day long. The reality is that most of the posters do post from work. I have always felt that Americans have a unique ability to get things done in a manner that is more profitable and ingenious than the rest of the world. I see the current generation moving in a directionless spiral that will ultimately end in the United States losing it role as the World leader.

Paying people just because they showed up is not acceptable to me. I would like to see you end the day and say these bastards are lucky to have an employee like me.”

I do not have desktop internet access at work and I don't want it..I do all my postings on my own time.

If people can get all their work done and play on the computer too, I say more power to them!! I bet it's a nice break from the all day stress at the office...

We just happen to have figured out and have some of the tools at our disposal to get it all done and have plenty of time left. My time on the internet is not costing the company anything. The pay a certain rate for a ridiculous number of hrs., that I could not possibly use in the 2 wks. of the month I work. They pay me a very minium wage and in return I do what they require me to do and then play on the internet and handle phone calls and faxes the rest of the day. In all actuality, I have done more than they expected. I set them up w/ a new accounting program when I started in Jan. and entered all the past information into the system. I am invaluable to them, because they are computer illiterate and not interested in becoming literate, but realize that their co. has to move into the 21st century. So . . . they hired me and one another young woman to do it for them. TXWoodswoman is right. If you can get everything done and have time left over that's wonderful. Man, Bacpac, you are really a grump.”

“Also, this is rural MT. I'm not in any corporate race to the top. I don't want to be the one w/ the most reports of every function of our office or the most efficient at filing reciepts, for Christ sake. I don't want to define myself by how well I can multi-task. I work to live, not live to work. One problem w/ America is that everyone thinks they need to spend every waking hr. (and sometimes even the hrs. they should be sleeping) accomplishing some monumental task. What about relaxing? Refueling? Spending time w/ our children? Listening to the birds? I admit that the part of the country I currently live in is going at a much slower pace, though. I like it that way.”

“New Girl, I agree wholeheartedly with you, that's why I left jersey in the dust and moved to Texas. It's a much simpler, slower pace of life where good values and beliefs are the core of living.

If you are the company computer guru your opportunities are limitless. Employers understand value and information integration is very value added. All you have to do is make the effort and the company and yourself will make more money. To me that is plenty of motivation. What motivates you?

“Not money . . . obviously. I'm not burned out. And I don't want to be when I'm fifty, so I'll just take it slow and easy. I make enough to provide for myself and my daughter. I don't need about a hundred-thousand other useless pcs. of crap laying around to show-off how much dough I bring in. Also, I didn't say that rural companies can't make mega money. It's great that Gateway did that, but it isn't my deal. At the end of the day I want to know that I saw and acknowledged my daughter doing something amazing. I want to have had enough time to record how good (or bad) today felt. Nevermind. This is a useless agrument. We have two different ideas about the right way to live one's life. ChinaChas and alot of others keep offering me some advice, "Hike your own hike." Good advice. Do what you do and quit ragging on other's about what they do.”

“I don't think it has anything to do with work ethic--I think it has to do with theft. Your employer bought your time for whatever the two of you agreed on and you owe it to her. If you want your time back then quit. Pretending to give the time is theft.”

I don't mean to check in on this board as often as I do, but it is more fun than the stuff sitting on my desk. I need to act more responsibly @ work and try to limit my "checking in" to when I am at home. There, I've said it. TT is becoming a distraction to my work day.”
