The Best Toys
I have been thinking about all the really cool gifts I would like to give my daughter. You know, the kind of stuff that I would have loved. That got me thinking about my favorite toy. So, what was everyone's favorite toy as a child (I mean 10 or younger) and what's everyone's favorite toy at their current age. I loved my Holly Hobby Tea Set, right now my favorite toys are probably my books.

RE: The Best Toys
My favorite kid toy was my Super Spy Briefcase. It was full of espionage gear (pistol, silencer, fingerprint kit, knife, periscope for looking around corners, and a real camera that fit into the briefcase with the shutter button and the lens sticking out, you could hold the case at your side and snap pics). Killer, I've never seen another one.

Now, hmm, probably my climbing gear. I bought a "Silent Partner" self-belay device a couple months ago. I'm really groovin' on that.

My favorite toy as a child was Mrs. Beesley. Did I spell that right? She was the same doll that Buffy had on Buffy and Jody. Yes, that dates me.

Now, my children, if you can count them. I get to relive my childhood through them. I read books, play games, dress up and play make believe. Everything is an adventure.

Other than that, it would have to be my backpacking gear. My new Thermarest chair kit is really cool. TXWoodswoman, I'm jealous. I want both the pocket rocket and the tekka headlamp. :o)

My favorite plaything at ten was my treehouse. I built it in a big cottonwood tree and slept in it almost every night for a couple of summers.

RE: The Best Toys
My favorite toy at 10 yrs old was my bike. We didn't have a lot of money so all of my early bikes were old hand-me-downs but at about 10 I got a beautiful new stingray bike with 3 speeds. I rode that bike everywhere. It was the key to my freedom.

My favorite toy nowadays might still be my bike. I don't get to ride near as much but there is still something special about getting out on a weekend morning and riding as long as I want. It reminds me of simpler times...

RE: The Best Toys
My fav toy as a kid was "Girders and Panels" which was plastic I-beams and vertical members and plastic panels which were metalic blue or "glass." I built huge sky-scrapers, as tall as me! I have never seen them anywhere else. Too many towering infernos in the backyard and they were gone!
Now, my kids foos-ball table.

Buddar Bear, I got a used bicycle from my neighborhood store when I was a young teen. Turns out the boy around the block from me owned it. When he said, there goes my bike, it was like I was a balloon, and someone stuck me with a pin, and the air slowly came flying out. That Baker's Oven was my friends toy, but I loved it.

When I was 22, I bought my own new bike. I picked a boys bike. I thought it was stronger, and looked nicer than a girls bike. I rode that bike everywhere. I have it with me now, 21yrs later in WA.

RE: The Best Toys
As I am reading these posts I realize I did not have very many toys. A hula hoop I remember about age ten and a few things like a bike and a ball and bat when I was younger than that. My folks had plenty of money--I guess they just did not spend it on toys. I was not unhappy nor did I feel neglected.

RE: The Best Toys
It would definitely have to be the magnifying glass. Not a bug lived to reproduce on my watch. Man, I loved the smell of burning chitin. During my teens it was competive sports. Heck, I still have the pitching mound in the backyard. Now, it's back to magnifying devices. Binoculars, telescopes, lenses, hunting scopes and a variety of microscopes.

Bicycles...LOTS of them. My brothers and I built many a bicycle from the parts of others, and if mom knew how far we ranged from home on them she would have been more than a little upset....
