Where's the humanity???? “I was going through our local news this evening on the net and found this horrible article. It's deeply outraged and saddened me and I wanted to share it with you guys. Saturday , Jun 23, 2001 Tot prepared for pauper's grave CALGARY (Alberta.com) - A little boy found dead in a southwest apartment seems destined for a pauper's grave in a traditional burial ground for unclaimed bodies and the poor. Fifteen-month-old Domenic Brown was found dead at 126 14th Avenue S.W. on June 5. He remains unburied, and police said neither his grandparents nor his father, Peter Brown, 23, have shown an interest in paying for a funeral. The boy's mother, Rie Fujii, has been charged with failing to properly dispose of the child's body. She is currently undergoing a psychiatric assessment. Can you really tell me that a family cares so little about their own flesh and blood(not to mention it's a 15 month old child for Chr!st's sake!) that they won't a)claim the body or b)pay for his funeral?? What on earth is our world coming to?!?! I'll be calling the city police to see if anyone's set up a fund for this little boy's funeral on Monday. You'd better believe that I'll be putting in as much as I can!” 11:34:11 PM 6/23/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “Sorry, I forgot to put in the I was thinking though, that the lack of love and compassion for your own flesh and blood these people are showing is the same 'stuff' that the grandfather who dunked his 12 month old grandson in a pot of boiling water to stop him from crying displayed. G0d, it's a frightening world out there!!!” 11:40:20 PM 6/23/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “That's horrible. Unfortunately, every day I am shocked by the evil men do. One of the main reasons I go to the woods. On backpacking trips I don't have the news reminding me of all the bad things going on in our world.” 12:31:43 PM 6/24/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “I'm with you, that's why I stopped watching TV a long time ago.. Then after hearing about that women who drowned all 5 of her kids in Houston last week, to the point where she chased the oldest one around the house and dragged him to the bathtub.. I am just sick about this, I've prayed and prayed..even the priest brought up this subject in his sermon today. And they chalk it all up to the fact that she was suffering from post partum depression?? Sure! It's time we stopped making excuses for these kinds of people and started to get them help..sooner, much sooner!! WW” 2:23:05 PM 6/24/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “Agreed! Well, I'm apparently not the only one who felt this way... here's an update: Tot won't go to pauper's grave CALGARY (Alberta.com) - Individuals and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees have offered cash or burial plots to ensure a toddler found dead in an abandoned city apartment won't be buried in a pauper's grave. The outpouring of generosity came after city police said they would have to hand over the body of Domenic Brown for a city-paid burial because no family member offered to cover funeral costs. The 15-month-old boy was found June 5 and police are still searching for the boy's three-month-old sister Gemini. Police believe her body was dumped in the Bow River. The 23-year-old mother, Rie Fujii, was charged with failing to properly dispose of a body and is undergoing a 30-day psychiatric assessment. The Calgary Sun fielded calls from individuals offering up their own burial plots for both children and the union offered $2,000 toward funeral costs. (end) I think my faith in humanity has been restored somewhat. I t STILL doesn't explain why people do sh!t like this in the first place though...” 12:59:04 AM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “Now that I am a mother myself hearing about these kind of tragedies is almost unbearable. It makes me physically ill and brings me to a deep emotional low everytime. I do not understand it. Sometimes I wish I could save every child from this horror.” 1:03:49 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “I am not trying to make light of a bad situation, this just sounded so absurd to me. I was wondering if I heard this right. At lunch today there was a news blurb about the woman that drowned her kids. They said that her lawyer was not sure if he was going to use the insanity defense. He said that he had not been able to talk to his client for a few days. She has been in a deeply psychotic state. I am not a lawyer, but.....” 2:10:55 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “I heard the story about the Houston mom Thursday while sitting in my car at lunch listening to Paul Harvey. Ruined my day. Still on my mind.” 2:14:36 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “It is hard to shake that horrible feeling after hearing about this stuff.” 2:34:04 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “To make myself feel better, I try to remember, they're in a better place now.” 3:03:14 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “And they didn't have to spend the rest of their childhoods suffering major emotional pain due to their mother's psychotic state. One of the biggest responsibilities a parent has is to keep themselves in mental shape. If you are even a bit depressed, your child will suffer. Take care of yourself, so that you can offer your child the best you possible.” 4:41:37 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “If you can't do that don't have children and if you already do . . . have the balls to recognize your inabilities and allow your children to be cared for by someone sane. I think that these two stories boil down to mother's (and in Canada, the father too) acting selfishly. They got so wrapped up in their own crap, they obviously couldn't make good decisions for themselves and especially for their children. I have to stop thinking about this. I'm sitting here crying at my desk. Man, I'm too soft.” 4:45:12 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “Newgirl, neversay you're too soft. It just shows that your heart is in the right place... believe me, I cried too when I read the stories.” 8:43:57 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “What amazes me is her statement that she did this because she felt she was a bad mother. Well, DAH! But under that logic she should have weighter herself to the bottom of the tub, not her kids. I also read somewhere recently of a mom who claimed she was not able to love her kids, never had been. This woman has four kids ages ranging from 2 to 7. My God, if she didn't feel cut out to be a mother, why the hell did she have four poor unloved kids! I'm sick!” 9:04:00 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “These people are in the same catagory as those who shoot up schools, offices, etc. before killing themselves. IMHO they think only of themselves, not those around them or those they are resposible for. Otherwise they'd kill themselves first. To paraphase Steven King's IT (I think)"If you go out alone, you're a hero. If you take somebody with you, you're dogpiss.". Newgirl, you're not to soft. Just less jaded then most of us.” 10:01:16 PM 6/25/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “These people were mentally ill before they had their kids. It's a shame, but anyone can bring children into the world. Pleading insanity is just a way to put off a big jail sentence because you are as guilty as hell.” 1:37:40 AM 6/26/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “Rabbitman's link in the "hey Violin" thread pointed me to a http://www.msnbc.com/news/591648.asp?pne=msn ">NEWSWEEK story about the mother who killed her kids. I'm quite disturbed by some of what I read. It appears, from the following quotes, they're suggesting it's the Dad's, and not the Mom's fault. Read the story for yourself and see what you think. Am I wrong? Is she going to be another "victim" like that woman who drove her kids into the lake? Seems like the media is scrambling for anyone or anything to blame except the mom. This really makes me see red. Tell me I'm over reacting. "She may have felt she could never do enough for her demanding husband." "Married in 1993, Rusty and Andrea apparently decided that the best way to bring up the children was to do it themselves. Andrea gave up her job as a nurse in a cancer clinic. ?He didn?t want her working at all,? former neighbor Sylvia Cole told the Houston Chronicle. ?He wanted her staying at home.? Unlike most parents, they did not turn to a neighborhood school or church to help raise their kids. " Newsweek July 2 issue” 12:00:00 PM 6/26/01 RE: Where's the humanity???? “Oh man, this just pisses me off so much. The lady is a mental case who killed her own babies. No one forced her at gun point. She isn't being tested by god like Abraham w/ his son (I'm pretty sure that's the right story). Her husband is not to blame, no one is to blame but her. %$^#, I'm way too emotional about this story.” 12:07:58 PM 6/26/01
