Hmmmm. What to do...
Well, my bike finally got in and I've been riding around a bit. Today I finally got around to using the front brake and when I did, I noticed a strage clicking sound. When I checked it out, I found a small nick in the edge or the rim and the burrs of it were contacting the brake pad when I applied them. Should I demand a new rim? Or should I just try and file the burrs off?

RE: Hmmmm. What to do...
Get a new rim. After you mess around with the rim, they won't want to fix it anymore, and the blame will be on you.

Maybe they will file them down instead of replacing the rim, but I would let them do it.

sage advise! if you touch it, it voids the warranty in almost all cases.

ok here is the deal.
i left my job after 5 years. I truly hated it. hated the compnay and my boss was drviving me up the wall.
so i got a dream job. cool boss, great company.

here is the problem.

I hate it already after 1 1/2 months.
i hate the people i work with, it seems they are all into the arts. i guess i am just not artsy enough. so i really have nothing in common with them. which is fine, i can deal with that. i just keep to myself.
but the enitre time i have been there, all i have done has been to update there library. call vendors to get new catalogs and then file them.
WTF? you could have hired a teen to do that for a lot cheaper.
i have sat there for 8 hours doing NOTHING.
I feel I can and have done so much more then that
so once again i am not happy. i am just to damn old to keep doing this.
so i am playing hooky to look for a job. maybe something closer to home. traveling 1 1/2 hrs does suck.

this is my problem.
I called my old job and talked to the bi-polar boss and told her what is going on. she told me that if i want my old job back i can have it.
but i can not leave it for another job after the company moves to NJ (which is really why i left)

so what do i do?

Maple...really now...if you can't work for your "old company" if they move to NJ it won't do you any good taking your old job back.

Besides...I not sure if I would wanna do that anyway... it's sort of weird.

Go find another job, and hope this time it will be one you like.

Good Luck!

If I were in your shoes I would not go back to the old job but I would start to look for a new, more challenging one. The people you work with take a long time to get to be close to. I think it averages about a year to have a true relationship with them where they're interested in what you do and vice versa, even if you don't care for backapcking or the arts. I learned this from starting work at new buildings, with new crews seven times over ten years.

If your new job pays more $$$$$$$ then stay and look for a better job while working there.

stay with the cash till you find what you really want.

I always got along well with most of mine right off the bat too Spirit. I guess I meant when you get to the point where folks actually care about what you're up to and how you're doing, and you both can overlook the other's weirdness and quirks, lol.

Maple, I know what you mean about the co-workers and not having anything in common. When i first got my current position none of my co-workers had anything in common with me and I felt really left out. It took about 3 years before any one of them started having similar interests.

I just feel that i am lucky because I actualy love my job and just ignore them when needed. Now there is only 2 techs and one team lead and he is in another city half the week.

My suggestion is towrite down on a peice of paper things that you would love to be able to do and get paid for, even if you dont think it will make enough money to suit your neds write it down. Then pick up the paper and hit the internet job sites and start searching for those types of jobs. You never know what you might be lucky enough to find. Even if you dont think you have the experience fr it still look. Never hurts to look.

That is the same method I used to get the job I have now. I had no work exp with actualy fixing computers and I got lucky and was offered a foot in the door chance. I took it and 7 years later I still love the job.

frantic yeah those foot in the door jobs are great. I got my foot in the door job as housekeeping in the hospital...now I pretically run a departent, have my own office with a tottally awesome veiw, work computers...the works. All I had to suffer through was 8 months doing the housekeeping work, dealing with aweful people. I saw the opportunity and took it. :D But the point is, I had to suffer first. perhaps you havent given the new job enough time yet?

Maple you have to have happiness in your job. You spend too much time there to hate it. I would look for something you like better. I worked as a lab tech for 12 years in a windowless lab running samples. I love to work in a lab but after 12 years I had burn out. Last Fall I was offered an outside job as a plant operator. I love it so far. I'm outside in the sunshine, working with tools and heavy equipment. It's every little boys dream. Find something you love to do it as soon as you can. It will change your life and you will also be much more productive to your employer.

So if all things considered the place is cool, the boss is cool, why not simply ask for more responsibility?...tell your boss you have the job caught up and you are available for new assignments....working with your coworkers might just show you there is more in common than you think.

How to appreciate your job-

Be out of work for three months after being on your deathbed....believe me, you wont care where your working after that, you'll be glad of what job you have!!!!

It would be a mistake to go back to the old job.

People seem to remember the good times much better than the miserable times, and there is also a natural inertia keeping us in our current job.

But the fact remains that the old job had you sufficiently unhappy that you got up, got out, and found another job. 2 days back there and you will remember all the things that made you decide to leave.

Such a short time and unhappy in the new job !! perhaps you are one of those people who cannot be happy anywhere, have you tried buying a lottery ticket :-))

I liked frantic's 'make a list' suggestion, a little self analysis to define what job will suit your personality, then patience until you get it. No point in changing jobs again until it is the right job, the current paycheck is as good as any other until you find what will make you happy.

Ps. do not lie to the list, you are only cheating yourself.

I know what you mean Spirit. It took me 2 years to get located in the city I live and a total of 3.5 years before I was hired perm with benefits. At that point I was 100% happy with my job and have been since. I might not always get along with the people I work with or for but that can be expected. I love what i do and I love the fact that I live 1 mile from work, esp. with gas prices the way they are right now.
