Albacore
I was cruising the isles of my local Grocery store looking for light weight alternatives to dehydrated/freeze dried foods and now they carry StarKist Premium Chunk White Albacore in those new little pouches. (3 oz.)
They have been carrying the large pouches for a long time ...but this little 3 oz version is pretty nice.

Don't forget to send the manufacturer a note that says so, and add any suggestions you may have...positive feedback is as important as sales when it comes to marketing...

What exactly does "Albacore" mean when talking tuna?

RE: Albacore
Albacore is a long finned variety of tuna that get really large.
The meat seems to be whiter than other varieties of tuna also.

RE: Albacore
Pouches or cans? I've only seen the small cans.

Sounded like a Monty Python thread to me. No offense, WW, but I'm disappointed. My brain hurts!

RE: Albacore
Why is it deemed more environmentally friendly that the other types of tuna-in-a-can/pouch?

RE: Albacore
Eating Albacore is more environmentally friendly?

I kwow that they can't encircle an Albacore school with a seine net like they do with some fish because larger Albacore are more or less solitary. They must be caught on long line or pole & line gear.

They do taste better.

RE: Albacore
Sorry, Arclite no Monty Python here :)

The 3 oz. pouch is 4 1/2" x 6" and almost flat at 1/4" thick.

The label says...

*Easy, tear open package,no can opener needed.
*No draining just empty and use.
*Firm texture and fresh taste.

I'm sure the albacore didn't think it was so environmentally friendly ;)

RE: Albacore
A correction officer friend of mine brought a can of tuna into work that said "Dolphin Safe" on it. So no dolphin were caught while catching the tuna.

One of the inmates saw the can, and and said "look boss, this can is safe from dolphins being in it". Those wacky inmates!

I'm not so sure about the "Easy, tear open package" bit - I have to use my knife to open the remarkable pouches. The pouch is lighter than the can (less water as well as less package weight) and when empty it is nice and flat in the trash ziplock. HOI
