Sherando Lake VA visit “Baume66 and Running Girl, I wanted to thank you for the information on Sherando Lake. We camped here and the kids spent a morning playing in the lake. We loved the campground and plan to visit again for a much longer visit where we can do the trails that surround the campground. The only problem was a lack of seasoned firewood in and near the campground. After showers in the bathhouse there, we left and went to Crabtree Falls. It was a nice hike for the kids and a cool mist from the falls made it more pleasant for us grownups. Then we drove to Natural Bridge and took the Caverns tour. The kids loved it! We are now in Florida at the parents, swimming in the pool in the morning and dodging the lightning in the afternoon. We want to visit Grayson Highlands on the drive back north next week. My husband wanted to skip the Shenandoah Park when I mentioned the 35 mph speed limit. Thanks for everyones' suggestions from way back, when I asked for help for this trip.” 6:12:54 PM 6/27/01 RE: Sherando Lake VA visit “Glad you liked it. It is a great area. That is where we were Tuesday-Thursday. We hiked the Whiterock Falls trail. The backpacking & dayhiking possibilities in this area are endless. I know what you mean about fire wood, we usually haul ours with us when we car camp. If you decide to go again let us know, maybe we could meet you there. I can also get you some info on dayhikes with great payoffs (views and scenery).” 12:09:01 PM 6/29/01 RE: Sherando Lake VA visit “Wow, you came in the day after we left. My husband said "Should we bring firewood?", and of course I said "No, the book says they have firewood there." Duhhh! We are hoping to get there again for a few nights in Sept. when we can hike with less heat. I'm looking at one of the last two weekends in Sept. We had fellows camping in sites on each side of us, camping solo. The kids wanted to talk to each of them, play with a dog, etc. Do people camping solo like to be left alone, or is it okay for the kids to be friendly if not too intrusive?” 4:18:38 PM 6/29/01
