RE: Savage Gulf again
This is from the Savage Gulf map and brochure that you get from the ranger station:

"Summer temperatures average in the high 70s but may soar to 100 F and remain there for several days." And remember that heat comes with humidity.

No thanks for me. Savage Gulf is outstanding but not in July.

Steve, the forecast says highs in the mid 80's and lows in the 60's. Of course it will be humid, it always is here! lol

RE: Savage Gulf again
Hey all, you could try the south rim trail, a relatively level, dead easy trail, loops into an 18 mi hike, or back and out froms hobbs cabin at about 15 mi. this trail has 14 overlooks, with Savage falls, small stands of virgin timber???? good trail, on a hot, humid, summer afternoon.I'm game either way.

RE: Savage Gulf again
wwwandrr, looking at both trails, TXwoodswoman will be there too. It all depends on Mnutz being able to get off work Friday, we may need an easy place for him to catch up. I really want to do that side though. Glad you can make it!

RE: Savage Gulf again
I like the North Rim better myself. The overlooks are better.

I want to hear everything when you get home. Sorry I can't make it this time. It is a bitch for me to get away in the summer anyway.

If you get a chance when it cools down, Savage Gulf is worth the trip to the east.

Yup, I'm in for sure..have my plane tickets in hand, yessirreee!!

If someone can't make the hike, but wants to join us in NASHVILLE for dinner on Sunday night, that would be a blast too..

BPbaby..we need to have a chat session and talk gear and who's bringing what..I've got my pocket rocket, but will need fuel..I have my filter/purifier (like the one Barb had)

Woooo HOoooo, to the woods!!!!!

RE: Savage Gulf again
Yo Dude -

I am majorly dissappointed that I'll miss you this trip..catch you on the next one..we're talking about a Arkansas get together too...you interested??

I'm sure Sirpete's stories about SG will be far more exaggerated than mine could ever hope to be.

We're in the final one week countdown..if you're interested, let bpbaby or me know!!

RE: Savage Gulf again
Sounds like a hoot but I'll be heading to Florida while yall will be in the Gulf.
I do wanna try to get to Arkansas this winter. Don't know where yet.
The two trips I'm planning the most right now are the White Mountain trip and my North/South Trail (LBL) thru-hike.

RE: Savage Gulf again
I think it's safe to assume that the Savage Gulf area gets hiked more often by TTers than ANY other area of the US.
