The Rainbow Family Gathering

“They gathered in Deerlodge NF a few yrs. ago, near Dillon, MT (southwest part of state). They disrupted the business around town and destroyed the camp area. It was a real twisted scene.”

“Well the gathering is in and the reviews are mixed. One source said the Rainbows had dog water containers near the streams, and were keeping dogs, kids and people 300 feet away from the streams, as requested. They also turned the dirt road into a 4 lane dirt road in some meadows. This source also said the same area was scheduled to have cattle grazing in it, which would also mess up the streams for salmon spawning.

A crew of people is staying up there, and filling in latrines and firepits. By all reports, it was a pretty responsible group.”

Anyhoo, they had been put up in a local motel, and fed the meal they were having by funds from a local kitty. Faith-based assistance in action! One of the girls was the girlfriend of a new Custer County inmate. He had grabbed the girl in a manner that caused glasses-assisted cuts. He was arrested for assault... or whatever.

They were generally funny, intelligent, and friendly young ladies - for Alabamians. LOL!”

“Here's my experience. Most of the folks are fine people but, and it's a big BUT there are the fringe elements that ride on the tails of the Rainbow gatherings. These are the slobs, druggies, etc. I have been at two different areas where Rainbow gatherings have been held and what was left behind wasn't pretty. There was absolutely no LNT ethic ingrained in this group. Anybody here remember or see the aftermath of Woodsock? Need I say more?”

I wish I had gone Tuesday and Wednesday, just to see what it was all about. I used to go to these things 25 years ago, and sold dried fruit, homemade wine, and had a good time. Interesting that the people attending now are 25 years old or younger. What happened to the older generation?”

“They were having a gathering near our Kickapoo Valley Reserve campout last year. Ran into a family at the visitor's center, getting directions.

They sure looked like peace, love hippe crowd.

somehow i just saw this coming, LOL! but hey, once i had a few dinners with the moonies once, just because i was hungry and wanted a good story to tell. my friend and i were pretty stoned at the park, we laughed for hours afterwards.”
