Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Greetings Campers... Auntie M (Tonto), has returned from a week in the high country with ALL the llamas. The new llama, Joppa is going to work out fine. He's trusting, patient, and laid back. A willing extra to add to our upcoming hike. The Sierras have had some pretty good rain, lighting and hail storms the last week (typical)...I came down yesterday afternoon in a real gully washer. The black flys are out early due to heat now, and lack of snow over the winter. Both the flys and the mosquitos are AWFUL!! Ann (Pepperdog) continues to run into problems rounding up a design for the t-shirt. I may have to send out smoke signals to see if I can get our designer (s) to reply. Pepperdog also has this to add: .... I am ready to take orders, maybe people just need to be flexible and ask for a couple of color choices. Rather than post my home address on the internet for all to see, I would like you to have people email you if they want shirts and you reply with my address so people can send orders and money. I am running out of steam on this shirt thing, I think if we just take $13 for t's and $15 for long sleeved or polos we should be safe. My original plan included $3 for shipping so there should be enough slop to cover a couple of shippings and maybe a beer or two at our send off party. Please reply to me: sierramel@qnet.com As fast as you can. I am leaving on another trip in less than 10 days, and will be out of touch with the "real" world until July 27..... At which time I will start seeing you all arrive here at my house.” 2:34:41 PM 7/05/01 RE: Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Auntie M, Awful is not what I wanted to hear! So.....how many gallons of deet would one need for 16 days???” 7:04:23 PM 7/05/01 RE: Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Mel, I know this probably won't help you, BUT I think a drawn picture of a llama wearing hiking boots might be nice. The boot laces could be open at the tops or not, kind of a goofy picture. Under the llama, it could simply read whatever you are calling the trip, Llama Rama.............2001.” 7:15:20 PM 7/05/01 RE: Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Make that hiking boots, pack, and trekking poles. With a t-shirt advertising your service. Mel, you didn't have a couple of llamas in the Hoover Wilderness on July 3rd? I ran in part of a llama train going over Burro Pass right before ma nature opened up a six pack of whoop ass all over the valley I was in. (Frog Lakes)” 1:39:21 AM 7/07/01 RE: Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Markar..... Nope... I was down at the other end; south of Red's Meadow on the JMT. We were just north of Purple Lake in the same Whoop Ass you were in. Wind... One bottle of DEET per 10 days, just to be on the safe side. Carry a spare, too.” 2:12:41 PM 7/07/01 RE: Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Thanks Mel, I sent 2 of the 1 oz. bottles(100% deet)ahead with our resupply and we were going to carry 2 with us ...think that will keep them at bay? So how was Purple Lake ? I'm heading out next Friday, entering @Tuloumne Saturday morning!” 7:21:25 PM 7/07/01 RE: Llama Rama t-shirts, and other news: 7-5 “Say.. Wind.W.... e-mail me again (sierramel@qnet.com), and tell me where you're gonna be and when.. We will be on the JMT south of Little Pete on July 17. We may be within shouting distance of you until July 26. The bears are out between at least the Duk Creek outlet, and Virginia Lake. We had bears through camp two nights at Virginia (Roy scared them off), and Purple Lake has also had bear visitations starting this last week. No available wood at either place, and it's getting busy out there.” 8:16:14 PM 7/07/01
