Need a new water filter.
My SafeWaterAnywhere just gave up, actually it broke, and I need a replacement. I am looking for something super reliable and super easy to operate and maintain. Not enough, I need it to be compact and light as well. Any suggestions?

Hey Tahoe, I've got the Sweetwater Guardian and think it's great. Can be had for fifty bucks, or less for good shoppers.

Or the MSR is on sale at REI for $70 and it comes with a water bag. This one has the ceramic filter that is supposed to be the bomb just about forever. I can't attest to that though.

My expereince is limited to the Sweetwater and the Extreme and boiling. The Sweetwater beats boiling anyday, but I couldn't say the same about the Extreme.

After going back and forth with the whole filter thing, I decided to go with the Pur Guide. It's pricey ($80.00)and so are the filters(34.00), but Pur has a 10 dollar rebate and if your a member at REI, you'll get some of that money back. Pur also has a real good rep.

PUR Scout is what I have. Haven't had any major problems with it. Even when the filter gets a little dirty, it will still filter/purify water. I will admit, I haven't tried the new filter. It looks really iodined up. Probably will taste like crap.

I have the MSR Miniworks. It works fine, is easy to clean and very simple. I like the ceramic cartridge. The only problem with it is that it weighs 16 oz.

If I had it to do over again, I would get the PUR Hiker.

Pur Hiker has done great for me too.

I've thought about some of the gravity filters in order to lose weight, but its hard to see replacing something that works so well. Mebbe when I strike it rich.

MSR Waterworks. A few oz more than mini. I've had Giardisis, will never again mess around with water treatment. Easy to use and maintain. I have been using one for 3 years without incident. I have filtered some FUNKY water, thick enough to eat, and it's still goin strong.
