That was an alternate reality..... One down, &inf; - 1 to go.

hey Tilt, i have a question about the moon for you. actually, probably anyone with above a 3rd grade education could answer it.

is the reason the moon gets all crescent-shaped that the earth is blocking the sunlight from hitting the shadowed portion of it?

me and Tarpy have an ongoing argument about it...he insists that the moon makes its own light. LMAO!! i can explain everything, except i'm not quite sure about the waxing and waning thingamajig.

No, that is what happens when an eclipse occurs.

The reason the moon waxes and wanes is because as it orbits the Earth, different areas of it are in light and shadow. One half of the moon is always lit, but we only see the portion of the moon that is turned towards us.

The moon doesn't make its own light, it only reflects back light from the sun.

oh! okay, that makes sense.

Lyra, the moon just reflects sunlight, so the crescent shape is the shadow of the Earth.

Waning means going from a full moon to a new moon; waxing from a new moon to a full moon.

Ooops, bit is right about the shadow being an eclipse. The dark part of the moon is the part that is not facing the sun but is facing Earth.

Hundreds of thousands of little tiny LEDs implanted in each crater ...

Just tell tarpy it's made of green cheese and that glow is caused by the phosphorescent glow of the mold.

If George sends NASA back to the Moon, he ought to send a fondue pot with them, just in case.... and some dry white wine.

AND... sometimes when you see a small crescent Moon and the dark side seems to be lit up a little... that's 'earthshine': sunlight reflecting from Earth to the Moon and back again.

mmmm, mold fondue...my fave! my only regret is that i didn't hold off on making fun of him until he'd told his little theory to several other people. he still thinks he might be right, but i think he's dubious enough now to keep it to himself.

waxing and waning made simple...

just for lyra

waxing,,building up,,,like waxing the floor

waning,,,,fading,,,,going away, like my interest is waning

When the Moon looks like the letter "D" it is "Developing" or building up or Waxing

When the Moon looks like the letter "C" it is "Closing" or going away or Waning

Got it?

You've got to change your evil ways... baby
Before I stop loving you.
You've go to change... baby
And every word that I say, it's true.
You've got me running and hiding
All over town.
You've got me sneaking and peeping
And running you down
This can't go on...
Lord knows you got to change... baby.

When I come home... baby
My house is dark and my pots are cold
You're hanging around... baby
With Jean and Joan and a who knows who
I'm getting tired of waiting and fooling around
I'll find somebody, who won't make me feel like a clown
This can't go on...
Lord knows you got to change

Computer clocks are notoriously unreliable, and require resetting on a regular basis. Some are worse than others, and the one on TT's server seems to be a bad one.

lol, ok, the real answer is, Matt simply doesn't give a shit that the time is always wrong. There are umpteen bazillion programs out there that will sync up your system time with reference clocks on the Internet. But he just doesn't care.

Actually the drift isn't even all that much. If he would reset it, oh, once a month, it would still be closer than it usually is now.

I've never understood what Matt has against a) having the correct time on his server, and b) the word "#&%!$".
