Grand Canyon Campsites “Can anyone advise me about the conditions at backcountry sites in the Grand Canyon? I am specifically interested in knowing if the campgrounds (such as Bright Angel, Indian Gardens, etc) accessible from the South rim are crowded and/or positioned in such a way as one would likely be camping next to an outhouse or anything else distracting (the back country equivalent of setting your tent up next to the guy with the satellite-dish equipped camper). Any info or opinions regarding "designated sites" and/or "at large camping" areas would also be appreciated.” 2:48:05 PM 7/12/01 RE: Grand Canyon Campsites “The corrridor trails all have designated campsites. They are real nice campgrounds. There are ammo cans for your food. At Bright Angel there are flush toilets. At Indian Gardens the toilets are up the hill from the campsites. There are ramadas for each camp site at Indian Gardens. Areas where there is at large camping seldom have toilets. When they do the toilet is an open air throne up hill from the most used camping areas.” 3:59:03 PM 7/12/01 RE: Grand Canyon Campsites “Hey, folks, I happen to know this Andy R is one hell of a guy (my brother actually) so come on and pipe up and give him the inside info on Grand Canyon campsites! (Not that your answer wasn't wonderful, MaryPhyl, I just thought some others might have more info...)” 2:49:08 PM 7/13/01 RE: Grand Canyon Campsites “Indian Gardens has covered picnic tables too. Bright Angel just has picnic tables. No cover. I was suprised.” 1:44:55 AM 7/14/01 RE: Grand Canyon Campsites “A ranger told me one time that 100,000 people are registered thru Bright Angle, campground and cabins, so there need to have some pretty good acommodations. Enjoy.” 9:45:32 PM 7/14/01 RE: Grand Canyon Campsites “A ranger told me one time that 100,000 people are registered thru Bright Angel, campground and cabins, so there need to have some pretty good acommodations.
