Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “I have a friend who, having had some tax problems he's been working out for a few years, found himself becoming involved with some company or organization which professes to have the know-how - at a price - so you can set yourself up in a way in which you no longer must pay taxes. Further, he goes on to say that the 16th Amendment (taxes) was never legally ratified, that the tax system is illegal, that it is voluntary, that once you have paid in a certain amount to Social Security, you're an idiot if you continue to pay more. The list goes on and on, and he's become almost fanatical about it. It's getting to the point that every time we get together - usually over a drink - he finds a way to weave these issues into the conversation, apparently hoping I'll eventually give in, buy one of these packages, and become as convinced as HE is that the U.S. Gov't is illegally taxing the hell out of us. He's my friend - and we're talking someone who's in his late 40's - and he knows he's not going to sway me. Nevertheless, he continues to preach the virtues of revolt. I asked why, if the "laws" he speaks of are so illegal, and the tax system in place has such "clear" examples of suckering the American Public into paying taxes they needn't be paying, why hasn't this issue become more prominent in the news, etc.? Why hasn't it received more play in the national media? Why haven't the examples he cites, the people so affected, sued the IRS, et al, in a public forum? Sounds to me like some sort of "militia-inspired" organization, but I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience? My friend knows I won't be suckered into this thing, but I can see where such a process could easily manipulate one's perspective, as long as you read whatever they write, or whatever "proof" and "facts" they use to pursuade you.” 10:34:37 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “I knew a whole bunch of these types when I lived in rural Idaho. They were always using their interpretation of the Constitution to explain why they didn't have to pay taxes and the like. One spent three weeks in jail because he continued to drive, rufusing to get a license. If the Constitution didn't say he had to have one then they can't make him get one. Like your friend they were always trying to control conversations so they could push their agenda and preach. As for the taxes,an old friend recently spent 30 days in the Spokane County jail for contempt of court. He hadn't paid taxes in three years and he told the judge that he "had no legal authority" to tell him what to do. When it was all over he said that maybe he "had some bad legal advice about taxes."” 10:44:51 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “That all sounds good...in theory! But if the Gov't wants yer money, yer land or your first born male child...they'll eventually get it...at your expense! If it sounds too good to be true...it probably is!” 10:50:36 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “My sense is that its a lot like buying the Brooklyn Bridge. The guy convinces you that you are buying the bridge and you get a deed, but no on else is gonna believe you own it. Same thing here. You get somebody's word that you won't have to pay taxes, but its not going to convince the folks that matter (the ones that will fine you and throw your a$$ in jail). I suppose for another 200 dollars, true believers will be able to buy the "proof" that they are being illegally held in jail. I read about someone trying this many years ago, he lost in the end. I don't remember the details.” 10:51:02 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “there are many things that the people of this country never question. it's quite sad, really.” 10:52:57 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “So you are a believer, eh Raddy?” 11:11:38 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “no, but he said... "...why hasn't this issue become more prominent in the news, etc.? Why hasn't it received more play in the national media? Why haven't the examples he cites, the people so affected, sued the IRS, et al, in a public forum?" merely a commentary.” 11:15:06 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “Maybe all the people who question are being tossed in jail--or simply disappear! Maybe it is an evil CONSPIRACY.” 11:27:49 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “I have heard of some business people in Texase who do not pay taxes on anything. Naturally the IRS is bringing the smackdown on them, but they have hired attourneys and are battling it. Being a business owner, I'll tell you folks that the government collects wayyyyyyyyy to much taxes. Example: If I sell a product for $100, and make a 20$ profit, 50% of that money goes toward payroll, which is taxed, and the money I earn (payroll) is taxed again as income tax. The other 50% is used as operating costs or profits. Operating costs (phone, supplies, etc.) is taxed, and any profits are taxed. Our accountant told us to never show a profit so we don't have to pay taxes on it. It's really ridiculous!” 11:38:06 AM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “it's employees of the state of TX. states are not required to make their employees contribute.” 12:01:12 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “Does it have the words Free and Man anywhere in there? If it does, run as fast as you can away from it. Also, is the address based in Montana or Northern Idaho? Again, run as fast as you can away.” 12:02:53 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “I've got a friend here in western MA with the same ideas. He cited some Supreme Court case from the last century to prove that income taxes were illegal. My posslq, an attorney, could find no reference to it. However, my friend says he has paid no income taxes or social security for 10 years, and has never been hassled. Claims you can write the Seretary of the Treasury to opt out of SS. As someone who can usually get his taxes down to almost nothing - the joys of working at home - but who shells out large sums of self-employment tax into the black hole of Social Security, it all sounds intriguing. But research I did many years ago seemed to indicate that the only way to avoid Social Security was to be born Amish. If the f**king guvmint left me a little more of my own money I'd be a whole lot better off. When I want cradle to grave mollycoddling, I'll move to Sweden. I don't mind taxes; I'm just a little resentful of how DC wastes my money on boondoggles and porkbarrel. I've long thought that senators and representatives salaries should be tied to the median incomes of the districts they represent, so that they, too, can see the financial effect the tax and spend laws they pass have on Joe Citizen. As it is, we have a bunch of millionaires in DC totally out of touch with the real world. I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said we needed a revolution every 20 years. We're long overdue. My rant for the day!” 12:20:25 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “Jesus to the Pharisees: ??Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.? (KJV) I think Jesus overrules their ?interpretation? of the Constitution.” 12:28:15 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “true dat rabbitman, true dat.” 12:31:29 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “Are we becoming The TT Militia?” 12:33:54 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “Some people espousing the view that taxes are unconstitutional, judges had no authority over them, they could write hot checks, they could form their own courts and indict judges and politicians, have been active in Idaho. The ringleaders have been convicted of writing hot checks, and tax evasion. I know of some property and homes that were lost, and some people that are doing jail time. They are clearly wrong. There were no income taxes at the time of the Constitution, but the Constitution set up 3 branches of government to make rules to govern the country. At some point, rules by these branches of government set up income tax rules. In that sense they are constitutional. If you want to oppose them, be prepared to do jail time and have your house confiscated. If you think this is the workings of a fascist government, see if you can find another government on the planet that doesn't levy a tax to support government activities. If you think you don't benefit from government activities, don't drive on government built roads, or buy any product which benefits from government built roads, and go live in Kosovo for awhile, to see what life is like without a government, or to Iran, to see what life in a religious based government is like. These guys are nuts, losers, and half bakes idiots.” 12:50:31 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “You tell 'em Bob! Hey and I just got notice with my last paycheck! Federal witholdings are increasing by $100! So much for Bush's big tax cut! What a bunch of smoke blown up our asses. Like I expected anything else from that twerp...” 1:02:24 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “By all means rosey. Bush is an amatuer. Think how much your taxes would have gone up had Gore got into office.” 1:22:21 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “It matters not whether they convince me or you. They only one they really need to convince is the Federal judge at their tax evasion trial.” 1:37:38 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “Here's an Update: This morning, my friend came to my office with a file folder containing about 18 pages he printed off the puter (web site, I imagine) with all kinds of Q&A's about this "idea". Within these documents - and yes, I have to admit, I was curious about what it said - I found that it costs $1,800 for their program... but first, you gotta obtain (read: pay)a special PRE-program package from the sponsor (my friend). Hahahahahahahahahaha Right.” 7:18:45 PM 7/13/01 RE: Tax Revolt - only $199.95 “C'mon obi, just do it for all of us! 'course he prolly won't accept that worthless US currency...” 7:30:12 PM 7/13/01
